I've been trying different foods for him to try, and he'd reject or eat a bit of some.
But good news, I did pick up some Senior Fancy Feast earlier at someone's suggestion to try FF, and he ate it all for dinner! Hoping that's a winner for him. got a few more cans and if he eats it all I will order from Chewy.

I spoke to the vet. I am grateful she took the time to chat with me and didn't rush me off.

I forgot to ask how she determined tail injury, but she started to agree with me that it isn't injury based on what I described. She says it could be allergies but didn't see confident since she sees allergies more in the face, not the tail. She's a bit stumped too but had suggestions.

We agreed to try two things.

One agreement was to get some Benadine or iodine solution- an antiseptic solution to put on his tail in the event it's yeast. She's looking into Colodial Silver to see if that would help and will call me back. (heading to CVS shortly to get something for his tail)

Second agreement is to cut back on his thyroid medication by half (he's presently taking half a 2.5mg tablet, so that means he'd get a quarter of that) to get him eating again since we do not want him to lose weight. His levels initially was low, and she felt it was safe enough to cut back by half. if his levels were high we wouldn't do that. Right now according to last month's blood work it's in range and I don't want to risk anything. I'm going to see how he does with Fancy Feast and if he continues to eat all of his meals before cutting back on his medication. I can also pick up appetite stimulant if needed too.

Also by cutting back the medication might relieve any sensation he might feel from the medication, she did say it was a possibility (and someone mentioned it here too). I want to see if using an ointment will help his tail and make a difference before reducing meds that had him in a good range.

She also suggested getting some flea treatments such as Frontline. (she did suggest this last month at the apt too). I am unsure about this one, I don't see fleas, he isn't itchy or scratchy. What do you guys think about the flea treatment suggestion? Would it hurt if I tried anyway?
I hope some of this helps him… maybe the ointment will. That’s great he like ff. It’s a sad situation when we are grateful dvm did not brush you off and took time to discuss things but many do not now.

I would not do any flea treatments if he does not have fleas and then bathing is preferable when possible. Advantage is the safest topical.

Flea toxins are known to cause a lot of issues as well as possible skin problems, Sybil used to lose fur and have inflammations in the area where it was applied too, and that was advantage.

I stopped all flea treatments for my cats then and had never used them except then due to her long hair and she could not get them off her. Then I started shaving her in the spring and that took care of it. And also if a cat coming inside had fleas but only once. The last two had no fleas and dvm said they won’t do it unless they have them.
