Hello Everybody!

I need some help from anybody, who has canadian sphynx cat(s). I try to find any information about skin problems on sphynx cats, but noting. Didn't find anything on the web. Canadian sphynx cat is rare breedig, nobody has too much experience about them.
So, there are strange (2-3 mm) spots, peeling patches with an irregular shape on my female sphynx cat's skin. There are spots on her both sides, on her legs, but just outside of he legs, on her back, on her neck and nothing on her stomach, on her chest on her head (she is black and white...maybe it matters). The little pieces of the peeling skin are visible well. We did two laboratory tests for everything (skin mushroom (i don't know how can i say it in english), parasite, etc), but every tests were negative. Her mood is okay, she eats a lot, everything looks okay with her. Just her skin. It looks terrible for me.
I keep two cats, my other female is all right (now...). Nothing problem with her skin. But i am afraid. How do i know, what is this???

Does anybody know, what is this? Or does anybody know somebody, who can help me, who has (or had) the same problem, who has some experience about sphynx cat, or specialist of this breed?

Thanks for every answer!

Granted, I know nothing specific about the breed, but could it be a sunburn?

I'm assuming the skin "mushroom" thing was a test for ringworm. If not you may want to test your kitty.

Another thing is mites. I'm not sure how demodex or scabies would present in a (what I am assuming) hairless cat.

Other then that, I have no idea. Good luck to ya!

Sunburn? No, i dont think so. In their room there is only very very early morning sun.

skin mushroom --> ringworm. I think you mean this. No any ringworm on her.
And scabies? Both tests were negative.
Mites? No. Mites are visible on every cat. Especially on sphynx. There is nothing on my sphynx skin. Only those spots.

Yesterday a tired to make some pictures, but i couldn't. These stupid spots are too small to make a photo about them. Today i will try again with a macro objective.
Did you have, or do you know somebody who had the same problem with the cat?

It depends on what the spots look like. One of my cats has a skin problem and this maybe what your cat has its kind of like a Allergy and he has to take Depomedral (sp) shot about every three months for it. Thats why I ask for a picture to see if this could be what it is. Also if its not I am really good friends with the breeder I got my babies from and I could show the picture to her she has been breeding Sphynx for 10 years so if I cant tell you what it is she may could. But I would need a picture.

How can i insert a picture? If i click on the icon to insert it, i only see ads in a little window.

But maybe that would be better to give me a mail, because i made 3 very big (3Mb) pictures to see her skin well. Is it possible to get a mail address from you?

No other way to put thyroid. If it is overactive the cat will eat and lose weight and muscle mass. The vet can check the cats thyroid be feeling for a nodule by the throat and pulling blood.

hi, i was wondering if you had any luck finding out what was wrong. i have a canadian sphiynx named cricket. she is completely gray. lately these white spots have developed very quickly and she is itchy. she already has spots black and white that have developed with age (10 years) but at a much slower rate.

my first thought was ringworm, i have yet to test her.

i also think it might be very dry skin due to it's winter time and i have a small apartment with forced heat.

please let me know, i am worried about her (

thanks,

-m

This is an old thread but there is a new thread here with someone who has a sphynx with skin issues which I understand is very common with this breed.  Someone who owns and shows a sphynx has responded to that thread http://www.thecatsite.com/t/270830/skin-issues-please-help   The person with a sphynx has the same idea that I do about an environmental issue particularly shampoo.  I know they are prone to dry skin and many people do use lotion.  I would still get a vet check.  I have found someone else on the board that owns and shows a sphynx but she is very busy with showing and I know she is also working on credentials to judge.  There is an online community for the sphynx http://www.sphynxlair.com/community/   Since skin issues are so common with this breed you may find some suggestions there.

I have a sphynx, as well, who has the same skin condition. He has brown flaky lesions in front of his ears on the face, and also on his muzzle. It scabs off in flakes. Sometimes when it flakes off it is pink underneath or slight bleeding. It doesn't bother him the least bit. I think it is not an organism like bacteria or fungus, but autoimmune. His father does not have it at all who also lives with me. However, the mother has it even a bit worse on her legs. She lives in another house with 2 other sphynx and they don't have it.

I rarely bathe my sphynx, maybe 1x2 years.

My vet doesn't know what it is, but it is not spreading and not bothering him so I haven't had any tests. I think he got it genetically and through his mother. Perhaps autoimmune.

Hope that helps. If you find out what it is, let me know. Thanks.

Also, it isn't ringworm because I know what that looks like and my vet would have know as well.

My son has a Canadian who is 3+ years and he has had a similar rash for some time but is noticing since he moved from home that it is getting worse.

I am thinking it is either allergic reaction to something or acne.

Doesn't seem to bother him but it is not very attractive on the sweet boy.

We are just now thinking with the worsening of it it may be time to change diet to more of an exotic one or a raw one and see how that works
