Soooo... we want to put up cat steps (that go up the wall) but I don't know what they are called exactly.
We want to build a cat area for our 4 cats. I am getting a couple trees (any suggestions? The one we got at Pet Smart stinks. It keeps falling over), the higher the better and the "cat steps" and build shelving they can stay away from the dog but be in the living room.

So... lay it on me! Best places to get these products ?

Thanks!

Rachel, mom to 4 cats and a dog

Just a thought about the Pet Smart tree - if the cats are happy with it (and you don't want to keep changing it's position) have you thought of a wall bracket to give it some stability? Simply a metal piece screwed into the post and the wall. They often come as standard with (or are recommended for) all tall cat trees these days...at least, they do in the places I shop ;)

I can't help much with your new purchases though. Your lucky cats sound like they've got it made with you :D

A while back someone had some video of some fantastic 'cat rooms' with steps and everything, I hope they come and see your thread and re-run it. Good luck!

They're usually just called cat wall shelves or something similar. Here's one place that has them: http://www.catsplay.com/cat-furniture-types/cat-wall-climbing-systems

And more:

You can Google Image search for "cat wall climber" and "cat wall shelves" for more ideas.

Most pet store cat trees are pretty lightweight and unsafe for active cats.I have a sturdy 6 foot tall ArubaCat tree. AngelicalCat is another good brand but it looks like the web site / company is temporarily closed, http://www.angelicalcat.com/ You can still view the catalog at http://www.angelicalcat.com/main_cat_furniture.shtml I've seen Mountain Cat Trees a the local shelter's holiday sale. They're really sturdy and made of solid wood. A loacl pet store has Wade's Cat Trees.
