I've noticed that I tend to go with human names more often than not, but I think it's just what I happen to come up with. It won't necessarily be that way in the future.

Names of past pets-

Pepper (solid grey cat)
Sophie (calico)
Lucky (grey tabby)
Mittens (hamster)
Peanut (orange tabby)
Ellie (chocolate lab)
Belle and Beau (grey and white tabbies)
Sammi (chocolate lab)
Gracie (beagle mix)
Oscar (mantle Great Dane)

Names of current pets-

Charlie (solid black cat)
Selene (grey tabby)

I’ve never named a cat :bawling: they were always someone else’s cat and Olive came prenamed from the neighbor (at the time I didn’t feel it was fair to change it on her). BF likes character names:

Neo
Trinity (aka Trin) - brown tabby
Gohan - grey and white

If I were to rename Olive it would be Boomer aka Boomy since she always returns (like a boomerang)

I also love savory food names: Meatball, Ravioli, etc.

Past pets-
Sabrina (torti)
Kiwi (cockatiel)
Jewel (german shepherd mix)
Willow (calico)

Current pets-
Gizmo (orange/white)
Stevie (grey tabby)

Sabrina, Kiwi, and Jewel were all names that were first suggested by my mother as I was under the age of 9 and my dad and I just agreed to them. Willow was named by her previous owner and was already 4 years old when I took her in so I didn't want to change it. Gizmo and Stevie are the first two I've actually named myself, after the mogwai from Gremlins and my all-time favorite hockey player, respectively.

Although someday in the future I'd like to have four cats all named after the Beatles' last names so I don't appear to have any rhyme or reason when it comes to naming my pets.

I've named every pet me, my family, or any other family member has ever had.

Ginger-Australian shepherd/ lab mix
Kipper- beagle
Freddy- grey DLH cat
Pansey- dilute calico DSH

I also named my cousin's pets: Charlie (white mixed breed) and Katie (brown tabby)

Also named my sister's dogs:
Ben- GSD
Rosie- black lab

Named my mom's cat: Kitty (thought we tried to name her Missy, but it didn't stick)

Then there's my current pets:
Bosco- Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, named after St. John Bosco
Luna-
Artemis- Both named after the cats in Sailor Moon

Artemis I had gotten from another person who named him Whiney. I already had decided that I was renaming him, but after having him for a while, I understand why he had that name. He is SO VOCAL. He cries and whines all the time and talks back to me, and just meows constantly especially when it's time to feed him. I still call him Whiney sometimes.

It took me and my mom three days to name Daisy. I guess it was because another kitten we loved was a male cream tabby (sort of between orange and tan) and she has a different purrsonality. We wanted to give her an Italian name because our last vacation was to Italy, but did not like any of them. Not all daisies are white, but she responded to it so the name stuck.

Rex - Havanese - current

We typically have 4 dogs and 2-3 cats at once.

Current - betta fish Samson and Aries
8 Buenos Aires Tetra who are never still long enough to name

When our children were little we had 2 guinea pigs and 2 rabbits
I also had a freshwater tropical fish tank for awhile.
My daughter had a horse, Lover, until it was time for my daughter to head off to college. We found a young girl in need of a horse and Lover got to enjoy raising another young rider.

My pets tend to be named after things I'm interested in, to tell the truth. Lots of pop culture references!

Past pets:
Kurogane - Red bearded dragon, name from a manga series
Charmander - orange bearded dragon, Pokemon name
Ruby - fire skink, from the show Supernatural

Current pets:
Gabriel - tan bearded dragon, from Supernatural
Jax - leopard gecko. Name isn't from anything, it just felt like it fit.
Pickett and Scamander - my twin kittens, both named for characters from the movie Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
Dougal and Occamy - my twin guinea pigs, also named from the same movie

There's a pattern. Everyone gets a two-word name!

Cookie (female tabby, I named her when I was 6 or 7)
Beast (mixed breed dog, he had that name when I brought him home and we couldn't agree on a new one, so it stayed Beast. Shadow would have been a good fit in hindsight)
