It rained last night! Did it ever! Came pouring down after midnight, and we got close to an inch. Overcast but not raining at the moment, even though forecast was for rain all day. Brief, 5 minute power outage at 8:30 a.m. so we got up.

Several errands to run today, all conveniently near each other. And think we'll go out for lunch. But now I'll have my coffee.

I use a dedicated old spice grinder and a kitchenaid mini food processor ( for larger amounts, sometimes I need to put that into the coffee grinder in batches to get it finer. This coffee grinder is sealed so I filled with hot water and dry with paper towels. Chai recipes vary greatly a lot on line so check for your taste you can always adjust.Baharat is in Marcus Samuelsson cookbook ' Red Rooster and another of his books' there are other online and else where.l just mixed my own apple pie spice from various recipes online.Dukkah is The Rise' ( Samuelsson) bit others are in many cookbooks and online. Steak rub is mine it is just fennel and coriander seed in equal amount plus some kosher salt and black peppercorns. Berbere in it Samuelsson Red Rooster cookbook and other places it varies a lot by area.but easy to make what appeals to you. I am out of some ingredients for that. Okra Spice blend was in a old Fine Cooking special edition called Farm Fresh? Hawaiij is in a cookbook Sababa, but I think online as well. Sicilian spice blends are online I mix my own, we prefer less oregano then most have. Another one to look in is Ras el Hanout it has many different spices( some it is said contain up to 50!) but vary greatly not only in ingredients but the amount of those ingredients. The thing with making them is yup know what is in them and easier to get it the way you like.

IzzysfureverMom IzzysfureverMom , you must be an amazing cook!

My accomplishment for the day was making the urology appointment which I have been stressing over. I chose not to go the clinic I was referred to because I hated the doctor I saw there once before, and instead chose a clinic that is not only closer to home but also had a female doctor for me to see. It’s not until mid December so I will try to forget about it for a few weeks. Did an excellent job of stress cleaning before I sat down to make the call though.

I have bedding to change this afternoon and am deciding if I want to go grocery shopping

It's raining now after pouring last night. I'm so happy!

We skipped two potential stops on today's outing. Yes, went to tile place with excellent workmen to pay balance due. Every day I had been providing cookies to the two men working here as they departed. So I brought some chocolate blossom cookies to the store for the very peasant woman we have been dealing with. P.S. I always add a little instant espresso powder to chocolate cookie recipes as I think it pleasantly adds a little zip.

Stopped at nearby liquor store to get brandy for fruitcake. Ordered candied fruit on Monday, sure hope it arrives tomorrow.

Stopped at Mexican restaurant for lunch. I had tacos al pastor, very nice. Himself had ensalada viva Mexico with chicken, watercress, avocado and more.

Then on to Wal-Mart. Himself needed to find a can opener as mine died. He found a mechanical one. I asked staff where were electrical versions (he couldn't find) - there were four. We got the least expensive one and still bought the mechanical one. Backup, don't you know. Also butter - one batch of fruitcake needs three sticks of butter. Also needs six eggs, so I bought another dozen. And assorted other items. Then home.

And so went our morning and middle of the day.

Yeh I enjoy cooking and my husband enjoys eating so it works out.
Hope hope your appointment with the new dr in Dec goes well. Try to stay busy if you can and keep your mind off of it for now.💜

Had a visit with an orthopedic doctor earlier in the week. My right hip issue is not really hip, he said. It's bursitis. Gave me a couple of pages of exercises, see how that goes. Most of the exercises seem impossible for right hip. No flex, no strength. Since I am laying down to try them have started doing them on a bed with board to lay on, as that way when finished I can roll and sit up, then get up. Getting up from the floor is a joke. This is horrid. Not happy.

Otherwise, today I managed to empty soil from wall hung planter that was taken down with shower work. Himself and I managed to hang it back up - heavy! - and I will put the fake flowers back in it. Perhaps tomorrow.

Third thing . . . do the usual make bed / feed cats / clean litter pan etc count, in aggregate, as third thing? Maybe so.

Got up early, we FINALLY had our first frost, so all the dahlia tubers had to be dug up.It took me several hours in the rain and snow flurries. Once they were all out of the ground I trimmed them up and got them to a little warmer spot.I still need to divide and store the clumps.Came in the house fed Izzy lunch and took a shower. Made something quick and easy for dinner. Now I"m sitting with Izzy.

The store called me this morning. Delivery for the new mattress is Monday, sometime between 2 and 4.
You know all that snow PA received? We got a scant trace. Seriously, that was it. We did get some rain out of it and we'll take all we can get. It was really cold and terribly windy yesterday. And the treatment room at the cancer center is always really cold. Got home from my treatment, turned the blanket on High and crashed. I'd be lost without that blanket.
  • Breakfast for the girls at 5:30 (we're going to try to work them up to 6:00). emptied the dishwasher, made our coffee, and went back to bed. Not really tired, but cold.
  • Scooped the boxes and gave the girls their second breakfast.
  • Cleaned out under the bed, worked on vacuuming out registers to turn the heat on in the house.
  • Swiffered, vacuumed, wiped bathroom and kitchen.
  • Rick's cheesecake from Junior's was delivered and is in the freezer. I think he's going to wait until Christmas dinner with the kids.

Took the begonia rhizomes out of the hanging pots and other pots on the porch to get them ready for storage.Put all the
pots in the garage.
Cleaned and organized the garage a little, it still needs more.
Divided all the dahlias and cleaned up.
Did a load of laundry.
Started some dinner prep and will cook that later

To the aunts this morning to do a house check, pick up mail and bring home the second carload of trash bags. About two more trips to clear everything, which may or may not happen depending on snowfall. I really don’t have anything else I have to do today, just some light cleaning.

Tired this morning and not planning on doing much.
When Rick turns the tv on for football, I’m going out to the Shed to find something to watch. I had stopped watching Outlander and could start with Season 5 and work my way up to Season 7.

Candied fruit for fruitcake delivered yesterday. That's only six days in transit since I ordered it on Monday. Today I will macerate some raisins in brandy.

Speaking of raisins - I can easily find dark and yellow raisins. Muscat raisins have been unavailable for years and years. And years. And this year I cannot find dried currants (which are really just made from tiny grapes) in stores anywhere.

Two friends stopped by this morning, bringing frozen venison, and a coffee cake ring from the good Italian bakery. I made tea, we ate cake, we talked about this and that. Had a pleasant time. He will come back on Wednesday to hunt.

Bought the very last items for Thursday. Got the Thanksgiving box down where I store all the turkey related paraphernalia I will need and brought up the roaster crockpot from downstairs. I don’t cook in it but it is large enough to keep turkey warm until serving time.

This afternoon I did some very productive sewing. Five or six years ago I bought a winter jacket that I really liked because it seemed so warm, but the sleeves were way too long. When I brought it home I cut the sleeves to the right length and pinned them up to sew — then let the jacket sit without finishing the sleeves ever since. I decided today I either had to finish the coat or toss it. It only took an hour, and when I finished I looked at the garment label and realized why it seems so warm - it’s down filled! It will most certainly be worn this winter.

Changed the date for my car servicing (bloke who booked it a few months ago didn't realise I always get it collected). Since I had my car available, got a big grocery shop done (big for me, anyway). Chucked the chair pockets in the wash, now it's fingers crossed they survive that and the dryer (it's a muggy day, they'd never dry on the line). Now I'm back to knitting.

1) It's looking more and more like I'm going to be getting a Timneh African Grey (aka, a TAG) from a breeder as the Congo owner I was trying to get ahold of would NOT return my calls. UGH. Time to start saving up!

2) Now that the bed is back in the bedroom, I have to play Tetris with boxes and litter boxes so I can walk around the bedroom comfortably :)

3) Omen is doing so much better after his snip! He's back to his obnoxious self, even counter-surfing when I'm not looking. Little brat, LOL!
