Day two of rainy weather and my declutterring bender. Went thru all my bedroom odds and ends drawer, then personal item/travel storage and then bathroom storage and tossed at least 50%. Old lipsticks, dried mascara, unused cosmetics, GONE. I am doing laundry this morning and moving on to office/sewing storage today. I might do some baking later.

We've been spending the last few days outside with the leaves. Not fun. The downside of having a yard full of trees is all the leaves in the fall. The trees around the WeShed are still holding on to their leaves, even with all the wind around here. Still, there's are huge swaths of leaves and we've been raking and raking...and raking.
  • Went mattress shopping. We're probably going to go with a Serta adjustable in queen. If we stay with a queen, we can just have them drop the whole bed in our bed frame from our old bed. I'm kind of pushing for a king, but there's not a lot of space in that area of our bedroom. Rick found the one he really likes and we were going to just buy it today, but the saleswoman said they're going to start a big mattress sale later on this week, so we'll wait.
  • Hit the Giant for a few things on my grocery list that we don't get from Sam's Club.
  • The quarry-weenie just delivered a load of stone, partly for the driveway and partly to finish off the wall at the top of the driveway. We've only been waiting two weeks. We're going to be busy hauling stone back and forth.
  • I (FINALLY!!) made a hair appt for a trim for Friday morning. And I'm having purple highlights done, too! I wasn't going to do it and then I figured that, with everything I've been through the past year, well, phooey, I'm doing it. Rick gave me the side-eye and said, "Whatever, dear!"
  • I'm making Cornish pasties for dinner tonight. I'm going to use the last of the dough that I had set aside for apple dumplings from Saturday.
FWIW, I did 2 apple pies, 13 quarts of applesauce, and 20 apple dumplings, from almost 60 pounds of apples. The rest I saved for me to munch on...I saved Grannies.

artiemom artiemom We just got a regular queen bed, not a split. I wanted a split because I don't know that I can sleep "sitting up". Both the head and feet rise. I guess we'll see. We looked at Temper-pedic mattresses, but even their softest mattresses were too firm to suit Rick. That's why we went with the Serta. It's almost too soft for me. But with Rick's hip, I guess I can deal.
  • We voted this morning. Well! Most of the time when we go down to vote, we're in a very short line with hardly any waiting time. This morning? The line was out the door and then went down along the driveway. We've never seen that many people waiting to vote. Ever.
  • Just as we got home, our neighbor was coming along the road in his skidloader. Our stone came late yesterday afternoon and we needed some help getting it around the driveway.
  • Two loads of laundry, vacuum and swiffer.
  • Get the trash ready to go tonight (shred papers and such), clean out the fridge.
  • Help Rick move stone around.

I hope that gardening will make me feel better / happier / less worried today.

Intermittent handyman here today. Had him cut back the bananas, cover with tubs filled with leaves, rake more leaves and dump over tubs. This afternoon I need to cover everything with tarps and plywood covers. It is absurd because midday temperature is 79 degrees Fahrenheit. However banana leaves are withered and discolored from the mid 20 degree nights.

While he was doing that i cut back three large (think very large) pots of cannas in front of garage. Dumped contents of pots (one at a time) into garden cart. Picked out canna tubers, trimmed stringy roots, separated out drainage rocks to one container, soil into another. Repeat, repeat again.

Need to
Finish covering bananas. That has priority.
Start packing canna tubers in peat moss.
Clean up "stuff" in front of garage.

If I don't look at the news I'll probably feel better. But it is so addictive, like watching 9/11 was, day after day.

Just came inside from raking leaves this morning. I gave up as the wind is gusty and I'm not really getting anywhere. It's still a bit chilly, but we have the front door open to catch the sun from the storm door (Tabby is flopped on the steps coming up to the living room and basking in the sun). We're in the mid-60s right now, although that wind....*sigh* Rick is still working on the wall; he should be able to finish today.

I'm just so frustrated I could spit. No news here at all. Not local or national.
  • Breakfast for the girls (emptied the dishwasher last night), made our coffee, and went back to bed until 8:00. Scooped boxes.
  • Raking leaves. Man, there is still a ton of leaves on the maple trees by the WeShed!
  • A light load of laundry
  • I know I vacuumed and swiffered yesterday, but I feel the need to do something constructive, so I'll do it again today.
  • Water the plants in the WeShed.
  • Another Penzey order. My DIL really likes the Justice seasoning (salt-free), so I'll order a jar for her and I think I'm going to grab a bag of Justice this time around instead of just a jar for me. I forgot to get some Hungarian sweet paprika the last time, so I'll take a bag as I use a lot of paprika in BBQ rubs and sauces.
  • Call the sales lady about the bed as I have a few questions; we'll probably buy it this weekend.

We went out to lunch at local Mexican restaurant. I had chille rellenos stuffed with chicken, with salsa verde. Himself had chicken tacos with corn tortillas - a very generous serving so some came home for a meal tomorrow.

Stopped at the IGA. Among other things I wanted Steady Eddy decaf coffee but they only had ground and I want beans. Asked, and the company (its local as in just across the river in Pennsylvania) delivers on Friday. Will stop by, again, tomorrow after visit to friend to drop off flattened cardboard boxes. Need to go to the bank which is complicated because bank is on one side of that road closure I have mentioned and we live and IGA is located on the other side of it.

Freecycler is - finally! - again supposed to show up for Panasonic phone system. One time she ended up driving after dark - time change don't you know - and got lost. It did work out today.

While waiting for her I was in the garage (moved my car out) and started packing bulbs away for the winter, in crates each lined with plastic bag and peat moss.Elephant ear tubers all taken care of. Cannas, four different kinds, are next. Then a couple more kinds of tropicals.

Rick is outside, working on leaves again. The wind is calmer, so they'll stay where they're supposed to be. He's moving everything up to the garden, where he'll do a burn.
  • Breakfast for the girls at 5:45, (emptied the dishwasher last night) and made our coffee. Went back to bed until 8:00. We needed coffee, so Rick just said to get all decaf and he'd start drinking it, too.
  • Scooped the boxes.
  • Vacuumed, swiffered, washed counters and kitchen, cleaned bathroom, made the bed (one of the few times I've been able to make the bed before the cats decided to nap!). Swept the deck and patio of leaves and raked them out from under the trees so that Rick could get to them easier with the lawn mower.
  • Bob is coming in around 3:00 to watch the last 3 episodes of Evil.

* played with Tux
* fed both of us
* dry Swiffer and then vacuum
* coffee with girls, and a couple others joined us
* grocery store
* phone call, long distance......
* listening to music, as I am on line and sipping a glass of wine.. gift from friends
* cooking a frozen chicken pot pie.

Today is my birthday. It was either going out for a good burger several doors down, at a beach bar or cooking something easy. It is a cold, windy day. Did not feel like walking against the wind on the way home from the SandBar. So, Got myself a Frozen chicken pot pie, and opened up the chardonnay.. Having a glass while listening to music, and while pie is cooking..

We will be making plans to go out for late lunch, soon.. We all have stuff going on.. No big Deal.. As long as I have friends...

Happy Birthday artiemom artiemom ! I have barely had internet for the last week and I feel like I have missed so much. Yesterday they finally came and, although it took all morning, I am happy to have reliable connections for internet and TV again. I am going down to row this morning and then a stop at the hardware store before grocery shopping to buy my Thanksgiving turkey and other groceries.

Yesterday's talk went well, saw a few old acquaintances, sold half a dozen books, and my friend and I stopped for lunch at a restaurant/cafe closer to home.

It was chilly yesterday evening and we had the first-of-the-season fire in the wood burning stove. Another one this morning. Today is full overcast and gray. Rain forecast for evening. I do so hope! Meanwhile I am packing bulbs in peat moss and putting away for winter. With potential for rain I need to dig more. Had lunch. Dug more cannas. Trimmed stalks. Three drops of rain. So came back in and now having a mug of tea with honey. Nice.

Also, I baked a tray of chocolate chip cookies this morning. Pleasant to have the oven going, and left door open after they were done and oven off.

At yesterday's event one of the members brought a persimmon cake. And had thoughtfully baked a miniature loaf for me. She had a copy of the recipe, with a note mentioning: take a piece of cake, photograph the page but don't take it.

And as my friend and I got close to my home I saw persimmons! on trees. Today I emailed the owner to ask if I could take pictures. He emailed back to say yes, and take some persimmons too! as he did previously.

Tuesday is the media preview event for the holiday train show at the New York Botanical Gardens. My friend is taking the day off work, I'll drive eastward to his house. Fingers crossed that perhaps he'll drive the remainder of the way. The kiku event is still happening so I do want to see that also. Have been given all-garden passes for the two of us, so will be able to take the internal tram across.

Busy, busy

Yesterday, we did pretty much nothing. Rick watched football all day. I was back in bed, reading and watching tv.
  • Rick has a DXA scan this afternoon
  • Then we're going to the stone place to get two more toppers. And that should be it for the wall at the top of the driveway.
  • Separate laundry for tomorrow.
Really not much going on right now. Thankfully.

Yesterday was a cold busy day;
Up early for Mass
played with Tuxxie
Breakfast for both of us
on line for a short time
Quick dry Swiffer in bathroom, made bed, showered
out to Mass
Home, made 2nd cup of coffee
Then: began my 3/4 of the day journey to wash 3 loads of laundry.. down and up, down and up, down and up... man, it took hours. And all the washers were taken at one point. I had to wait to finish one load, so I could put my last load in.. Same with dryers... dam
Quick Look at "craft fair' in lobby.. nothing but junk
put laundry away...
That was it for the day.. just supper and dishes.. I was tired.

Today a bit easier:
up,
played with Tuxxie,
Phone calls--- several
dishes, bed, etc, breakfast for both
picked all toys up
Dry Swiffer in bathroom and kitchen
Vacuumed entire apartment.
Went down to pick up deliveries..talk to a couple of people
Should clean and dump the Litter Genie before it gets dark.. Hate the change in times..
Have to throw out trash and recycling
Reheat supper.. not hungry, but know I will be looking for something soon.
Still tired.

Work.
Make sure my Mom's computer has indeed disengaged one drive and that she is using it properly.
Test new canner as it's a steam canner and I'm 100% unfamiliar with it. THis way I can maybe work with it on the weekend.

A beautiful sunny albeit chilly day so I worked at my aunts cleaning up the enormous amount of leaves in her front yard. They were too heavy for a leaf blower and too damp and thick for a leaf mulcher so it was old fashioned rake and bag. We need to hire someone for lawn care next summer and think (hope) she already has someone who does snow removal but we will soon find out.

On my way home I stopped and picked up my turkey. I had intended to do it last week but the store didn’t have them in stock yet, and not having one yet was stressing me out a bit.
