So far, I have 18 apple dumplings made; 12 are in the freezer and Rick has been munching away on the rest of them. I still want to make at least six more, so that my sister and BIL have four and the other two will be for our neighbors. It seemed strange making apple dumplings and knowing that Rick's mom won't get any.
  • Breakfast for the girls, made our coffee, and went back to bed. I'm still having trouble getting up earlier in the morning. I can get up earlier, but then I will have to crash later on. I'd rather stay in bed until around 9 or so and spend the whole day working instead of napping. I'm usually asleep by around 11 at night, so I am getting sleep. It has to be because of the Keytruda treatments and my kidneys.
  • Two loads of laundry
  • Changed the bed sheets, but will wash the dirty ones tomorrow. I try to do no more than two loads of laundry at a time because of our area being so dry. Got the flannel sheets out. I know it's close to 80 degrees around here, but it won't last.
  • Vacuum the house, wipe bathroom and kitchen
  • Made enough pizza sauce for the freezer to make 5 sheet pan pizzas or sauce for stromboli or calzones
  • Shredded a ton of paper and got the trash ready to take down to the road tonight
  • Expecting my bread book from King Arthur at some point today.

Yesterday and the day before were gloriously warm days. It was great to have all the windows open!
I spend a ton of time with Tuxxie in the morning.. Yes, still getting bit, and pounced on. Man, this cat will never learn social manners.. I do not know what to do.. It seems all I am saying to him is: NO. Bad Boy, UHHH-- AWWWW.. NO!

Had to really pick up all the litter Tux kicked out of the box. It was a mess...
Playing with Tuxxie.. getting bit and saying NO too many times...
I did a fairly good Dry Swiffer and Vacuum of the place.
Shredded papers
Went out for a prescription
Since it was such a beautiful day, I went to the City Hall and Voted!! I felt so good doing so.
that was about it.. for the day..

Today is:
Dishes,
Picking up the litter.. yup, kicked it out again..
Playing with Tux
Cornhole
perhaps coffee with friends from cornhole
Back upstairs to pick up--- yearly inspection tomorrow.. gotta clean out Litter Genie, and maybe his box...
It is another glorious day outside.. Fog right now.. I may walk down to pick up a Spanakopita from the Greek/American place several doors down. My treat for voting... and ealing with Tuxxie.

Son help put up new TV yesterday evening. If you haven’t bought a TV lately, they are about the only thing that just keeps getting cheaper. 50 inch Vizio UHD TV for $239. Amazing.

I am waiting this morning for the HVAC technician. They have cancelled on me twice so hopefully today. It’s just a pre season tune up but I like knowing it’s done. I have tons of paper and computer work to do while I wait.

Went to Wal-Mart this morning for various items. Stopped at feed and mercantile - we were considering a talk in October. However they are busy collecting things and trucking down to the Carolinas. How about November? I have a few things that month plus Thanksgiving. I asked how about December? Ehh, we ended up with next April.

Go home and intermittent handyman was here. Himself had helper lift large logs up onto log splitter where they were quartered. Repeat. And again a third time. That takes care of the outsize pieces. Next, I had helper rake out ditch at toe of hill just off upper parking area. It got somewhat mangled when the tree service was here yesterday with the bucket lift truck, taking some weight off crowns of a few sizeable trees.

Himself finished splitting wood. When he was done I handed the pieces to him so he could stack.

I dragged the hose down and watered sapphire berry, Symphorocarpus for an hour. Then repeat for another small tree, seven sons, Heptacodium. I want to water more. But while I have not run clothes washer or dishwasher today I really don't want to stress our well. Tomorrow is another day.

While the second hour's watering was ongoing I went and painted a finish coat on the two posts along the street. Now that things are becoming somewhat less disheveled in the basement where French drains were installed along interior walls I was able to locate a partial quart can of exterior white enamel paint. I had intended to buy a quart so this would happen sooner. But refuse to pay $22 for a quart of paint. Outrageous!

And now I am sitting.

We were in WalMart the other day and hubby noticed a gallon of paint...don't know the brand...was close to $60!I won't do it,that's for sure.I think we may take a trip down to Habitat for Humanity and see what they have...he's looking for exterior paint for his hives and it doesn't have to be a big brand name.

Well this afternoon's event was a waste of time. It was supposedly limited hands on, discussion, Power Point. Instead it was lecture to seated audience by very soft voiced presenter. She did hold up a jar, mention it, pick up another.

After we were there for 30 minutes there was an announcement of a tour of the house. Which my friend and I took as an opportunity to gracefully leave, along with others.

Mentioned were: carrots sliced, salted for a day, drained, treated with hot vinegar for 24 hours, drain, reheat vinegar then pour over carrots, again and again.

My opinion - straight vinegar, especially when concentrated by repeated boiling, is too strong.

Chicken pot pie - this really put me off. Cook chicken, pot up, bake, seal with layer clarified butter. Supposedly good for several months. I don't think so.

Preserving apricots. A) I have my doubts that 18th century New England farmers were growing apricots. B) She showed image of balance scale with equal weight of sugar and pitted, halved apricots. O.K. BUT her image showed white granular sugar. I am sure that what was available in the 1700s would have been brown sugar in a cone, that needed to be scraped or rasped.

However we had a good time riding around the sunny autumnal roads looking at old barns and even spotted a root cellar. Will need to come back for pictures.

Got home, had tea and cookies, and that was our day. Ah well.

I had my 11th Keytruda treatment yesterday. I'm doing well. My blood work results show that my kidneys are finally and slowly improving. I'm no longer so darn nauseous and am no longer taking anti-nausea meds, at least for right now. I'm am not as weak as I was and I'm getting my energy back. No napping, other than the day of the Keytruda treatment. I'll take it. Right before Thanksgiving, I will go for my 12th treatment. In the beginning, 12 were all that were prescribed. But since I'm doing so well on Keytruda (knock on wood), my oncologist is thinking of adding six more treatments, which will take me into the spring of 2025. I'm grateful to be doing well. Somebody is definitely looking out for me.

We've been outside a lot this week, doing yard work: raking leaves, moving broken tree brush up to the burning pile, cutting the perennials down. I swept around the WeShed deck and patio, moved the chairs into the basement, cut back geraniums and moved them into the basement. I cut my Boston fern back and watered it well. Will bring it to the basement tomorrow, as well as my potted hydrangeas.
  • I have 7 dough disks on the counter and will be making 14 apple dumplings today (while Dear Richard is watching PSU). Four will go to my sister and BIL, two will go to our neighbors, two for Rick tonight, and the rest will go into the freezer for later on.
  • Changed the bed sheets and will wash the dirty ones tomorrow.
  • Vacuumed and swiffered early this morning as I wanted to get it done before the PSU football game.
  • Changed out all the Halloween stuff in the house for Fall and Thanksgiving stuff. Changed the yard flags out, too.
  • Hoping to finish up the cook book this afternoon; now it's just printing chapter covers and such. Then it's completely done. I'll have three copies to be bound and, hopefully, will get them into the store for binding this coming week. One is for my DIL, one if for Bob, and one is for me.
  • I want to do a King Arthur order, since it doesn't look like we'll be getting to Vermont this year.
Bob and I have the final three episodes of Evil yet to watch. He wants to see the PSU game today and I think, next week, he's going home to visit with his mom.

So much this week, that I havent had time for the internet. Friday was a day alone at my aunts working in the basement. Spent at least an hour moving things before I could get to the light switch. Left exhausted but it at least now you can walk from room to room without tripping.

Yesterday was a yard work day, taking down and storing Halloween decorations and yard items and mowing
leaves (I hope ) for the last time.

I moved things around in closets this morning, making room for hats and mittens and need to do a target run shortly

We are slowly getting the basement back in some kind of organized shape. Himself thinks it will take the rest of the year. I pointed out that we have lived here for more than 25 years so why would it be only a few days. I have been putting things we no longer use on Freecycle - it has been quite a while since we have had holiday open house parties. An electric 2 burner buffet, a really lovely chafing dish complete with a box of Sterno gel heater units (that went to a man for his granddaughter's birthday party), a West Bend 12 - 24 cup percolator and 2 quart thermal carafe (someone took those for events at her church), several dozen glass top canning jars (parceled those out, a dozen per person.)

I need to dig more potted tropical plants and prep for winter storage.

Chewy's auto ship of Tiny Tiger pate and another of kitty litter have been delivered. Flattened boxes will go to my friend who uses them under mulch in her vegetable garden.

Speaking of cat food - do you perhaps recall a short while ago when I mentioned that the boys seemed to no longer eat the Tiny Tiger beef flavor so I changed to only chicken and turkey with giblets. Well in the last couple of days Mr Poe - who remains reasonably active, bright eyed and I think he is happy - is no longer a member of the clean plate club. He eats some and then "buries" it. This morning I did not see how much he ate as after putting their dishes down I had to top up the bird feeders and put them outside. Then noticed Domino cleaning Poe's dish.

Poe then went to nap behind a big chair in the dining room. I put a spoonful of TT chicken and TT beef in his dish and slid it near him. He ate both, came out from behind the chair and is now invisible. Oy!

Will finish with this and that, head off to Wal-Mart for this and that, and will pick up a can or two of Fancy Feast pate. Have a small magnifying glass to bring with me so I can inspect the label(s.)

Good thoughts, send good thoughts for both cats. And me.
