susanm9006 susanm9006 I am so sorry. :hugs:

Got my tasks all done yesterday: vacuum, swiffer, clean, etc. so I'm good for today. Rick is working on shoring up the retaining wall in the back of the WeShed, so we ran down to Lowes last night for more stone for that.

I'm pretty much back to drinking (decaf) coffee in the mornings. Yay, me!
  • The septic weenies are here, checking out the outside pump. Our system is like a sand mount, with a pump to pump the sewage out of the second tank, up the hill, and into the septic bed. The pump has been running too often, so Rick called them on Monday. They think the lower float is bad, so they're installing a new one. Much cheaper than a new pump!
  • I really don't have much on the agenda for today. I will spend the afternoon reading The Sacred Vault (Wilde/Chase 6) with a glass of lemonade by my side and Mollipop on my lap. Still don't have the WeDeck set up.
  • Work outside a bit tonight.

artiemom artiemom --I'm sorry that it took me so long to give my condolences, but I didn't see that thread until I checked your profile to see what you've been up to. So terribly sad. Ruby, HeKitty, Willow, Geoffrey all at once?! Heartbreaking. 😢

So I just post 3 things that I did today?

1) Cleaned two shelves on the door of the fridge.

2) Wiped all the bottles on those shelves, mostly hot sauces of course.

3) Tried to get Maggie to mingle with Gracie, Harlow, and Frasier. She doesn't mind Holden the ten year old, since he leaves her alone. But the young ones antagonize her.

M maggiedemi Thank you.. Yeah, just over 3 weeks now... I still expect to see him around corners, peeking at me.. I still sometimes hear his soft meow.. Even though I have vacuumed, washed floors several times, I still find a piece of litter, here or there.. dealing with donating a ton of his things. It is so empty in here. I miss Geoffrey on my lap and cuddling with him, in bed, even during the day. I really loved that little guy.. He was such a good kitty.

I have had meltdowns.. been trying to stay busy. A couple of my friends have been good about that-- but now it is time for them to think of themselves.. and I have the 2 bocce leagues, the corn hole, the Mass (which I am in charge of)..
The weekends are the hardest, since no one is around with nothing to do... These are the long days.. and many nights. But getting better. The emptiness is the worst.

I do not have to be as fastidious about cleaning, because there is no litter box, litter genie, no medications to give.
I can store many things out in the open, kind of just drop them-- including potato chip bags and plastic things. I have 4 plants in here: a beautiful pathos (gift from a friend), a basil plant, a money tree, and an orchid. I bought a small plant stand (3 levels) to put in place of the cat tree; which is in front of the windows, looking out to the beach and street. Geoffrey loved looking there. Still have his towels out. One still has some litter on it. I just cannot take them away. The same creases on them from when he cuddled and curled up on them--- his 'nest'..

I am on here, but are very selective as to which threads I read and which ones I post on. I really miss my little boy..

Thanks again..

Today, I was on line for a. very long time; then took out trash, showered, took my time setting up the community room for this afternoon'a Mass. Then I had to break everything down.

Grabbed a 2 pack of egg salad on 2 finger sandwich rolls, a bag of chips and a small chocolate sundae ice cream cup for supper. It is way to hot .. AC is going to be on constantly until at least Sunday. I alternate between my rotating fan and my air purifier in the bedroom. Fan during day, Air purifier at night. I do not want to burn out either motor.

We broke a record today: 98 degrees with heat index of 107 degrees. Will go for another record tomorrow.

This morning we

1) Stopped at bank to get some cash. Various places are now adding a fee is a credit card is used so cash gets more use.
2) Stopped at tile store. After the first contractor ghosted us we have finally found a different one. Second contractor's designer coming here tomorrow . . . We'll see
3) Went to motor vehicle to get my car inspected. In a never before happening would you believe we got in and out in like 15 minutes.
4) Went to lunch at a Mexican restaurant. Tasty food, good service, charming decor, but rather noisy air conditioner so as more people arrived they would talk more loudly to speak over it
5) Went to Costco to renew our membership. It's due July 1st but I can schedule it today, it will be processed July 1st, and today's special - they are giving out a large cooler bag with memberships so I was given one. Of course I then bought half a dozen freezer items.
6) Stopped to photograph a European chestnut
7) And then to the auto body collision place. He thinks the ding in my rear bumper is more than I took it to be. As long as we were there, had him look at scrapes / scratches on both sides of the car. And as we walked around the car - front license plate is crumpled and a small cover plate for bolt that holds front bumper is missing. Thought is that someone must have backed into my car at parking lot. He'll send us separate quotes. Still waiting until I can get report from state police - was told 10 to 15 business days from time of accident.

And now we are home.

On Tuesday, I mowed the lawn. That's the first time I've done it this year; Rick had been doing it. I figured enough was enough and I needed to get back into doing things I used to do. And I was fine. So, at least for now, that will become my job again. Rick still does the push-mowing. I told him I wanted to try push-mowing, but he was pretty adamant that I stay on the riding mower.

On Wednesday, we went looking for quotes for decorative stone. We want to put a small wall in to border the flowerbed in the back yard. We got four quotes and have pretty much made up our minds who we're going with. Our grandson will be coming up to help us with the wall and with a few other tasks that we want to get done. Our son may come up, too.
  • I have a load of laundry in the dryer.
  • Vacuum, etc.
  • General straightening up in the house.

Late this morning, I went grocery shopping. I swear the entire city was there! It was mobbed. Today the heat wave broke, so people went out in droves.
Grabbed an iced Coffee on the way back. I also picked up a rotisserie chicken at the grocery store. I have not had one for a long time..

While it was still warm, I decided to clean the chicken.. Man, was it good. I decided to eat my lunch and supper portion of it-- with my iced coffee.. now, I am stuffed.

Watching people fly kites on the beach. It is windy enough for kite flying. There are 2 guys who have huge spectacular kites and stuff.

Yesterday, our real feel was over 105. We pretty much stayed in the house. At 7:00 this morning, it was 73 with a real feel of 84. Our high is to be in the low 90s today. Another house day. Rick came back from his walk this morning and he looked like he had taken a shower. Still nasty around here.

We finally! slogged our way to the end of Northern Exposure. That sixth season was here, there, and everywhere.
I finished The Sacred Vault and started The Empire of Gold (Wilde/Chase #7).

We are not planning to do much of anything today. Rick may go outside and finish off that retaining wall in back of the WeShed.
  • I'll probably vacuum the pool.
  • Spend the afternoon on the computer.
  • Read for a while.
Nothing big.

Yesterday, we ran errands. Got home and Rick planted grass seed at the retaining wall over by the WeShed. I did a load of laundry. And then I seriously crashed. Ate a bit of dinner and went to bed. A couple of hours later, I awakened and felt better, so I finished my dinner.
  • Changed the bed sheets this morning; the dirty ones are in the washer.
  • A couple scoops of mulch will be coming this morning. I still have some coral bells that need to be moved and a large hosta. And then I can spread the mulch over by the WeShed. We have another groundhog; he's the one eating my dahlia buds and pulling the geraniums out of their pots. He needs to go; Rick will be setting the trap tonight. The squirrels are busy hiding their treasures in my flower bed, so they'll love the new mulch.
  • I need to water the plants in the WeShed. I'd really like to bring them out to the Deck for their summer vacation, but will need Rick's help to do that.

My body hurts all over from mulching yesterday. We got the bed right in front of the Deck done as well as the bed with the azaleas and the red twig dogwood. Still have the northern end to do, but the hosta has to be planted first. Rick does the planting, then I come in with the mulch. The northern end will be nothing but hosta as it's most too shady for anything else. Didn't catch the ground hog yet.
  • One load of laundry this morning.
  • Continue with plantings/mulching around the WeShed.
  • Start mulching at the west end of the house.

Made the drive across town yesterday morning to pick up salt for the water softener. They are the only place around that carries 25 pound bags and I just can’t haul the heavier 40lb ones. Anyway I needed four and they only had one so I had to go back this morning after they get their delivery and get more. While there though there was a garden shop going out of business and I picked up some perennials for $3.50 each. Planted them when I got home before afternoon rains show up.

Another four bags of salt picked up and all hauled to the basement water softener. This is just a once a year task and every year more of a challenge.

susanm9006 susanm9006 Rick still manages to heft those bags of salt. I don't know how he does it. There's a local hardware store that sells 50-pound bags for the price of 40 pounds. So he goes to that store and we get 5-6 bags at a time. He gets them into the car, then lugs them into the basement. No way could I do that.
  • Rick got up with the girls, but I got up about 30 minutes later. I was awake and couldn't go back to sleep. Figured that, when I get tired later on this morning, I'll just go back to bed and take a nap. I just finished cleaning litter boxes and am enjoying my coffee.
  • That storm that hit on Wednesday here took down one of the old white pine trees in front of the WeShed. Snapped it off about 15 feet in the air. Thank goodness, it didn't hit the WeShed. I think we're going to start cleaning it up this afternoon before the next storm hits. We haven't had time to do it before now.
  • I bought the next 5 books in the Wilde/Chase series on Amazon. That takes me up to 15. I think I only have two more to go and I'll be caught up with the series. The books are pretty good.

Big list for the week, I took a week off from work although I will still be going on the computer to check on things there. This week is tackling the walk out basement aka the man cave alias a dumping ground. It's a mess I rarely go down but the husband uses it for numerous things none of which include picking up.
1. Moving 4 wall cupboards, currenty on a wall a ways away from the kitchen area down there, I want to mount them in the kitchen area.
2. Changing/finishing the backside of the bar area.
3. General deep deep cleaning down there.

An ant in the kitchen this morning reminded me I haven’t sprayed for them yet so I will do all the entry doors today. It is a beautiful cool day today so I think I may walk instead of rowing. Got my arm workout yesterday anyway. This afternoon I will probably work on my latest furniture project.
