I went to the basement yesterday with the intention of doing some stain test samples on my table but liked the color of one so much I ended up staining the whole piece. Bonnie Raitt radio cranked up on Pandora, I was in my happy place for a couple hours.

I have a few Amazon things being delivered today to a locker at the grocery store so I will do some shopping while I am there.

  • Breakfast for the girls, emptied the dishwasher, and went back to bed. Since I’ve given up on coffee, I seldom get on the computer in the morning. I really miss my coffee.
  • Two loads of laundry
  • I’m ready to make the donuts tomorrow. Rooted around in the cabinet for my spider and got into the basement cabinet for my donut cutter. I have my mashed potatoes ready.
We are to get about two inches of snow tonight into tomorrow.

Himself had plowed the driveway yesterday, after the 7.5 inches of very wet and heavy snow had stopped. Used the ATV which has a plow on the front. The cable that raises / lowers the plow snapped but he was able to repair it. He had moved the cars down the evening before, that would be Monday evening. So today

he went down with the ATV to clean the snow off his car. Having put it into "snow" mode and "lock" (the transmission, he assumes) he was pleased with how well the Tucson came up the driveway.

Meanwhile I went out scattering CaCl snow melter. The hand held device locked up so I ended up like queen of the May throwing daisies, doing it by hand. Only slipped once but managed to twist so I fell onto the rather solid snowbank rather than the asphalt.

Himself is inside to thaw out (it is 30.7 degrees Fahrenheit outside) and will then walk down and see if the ATV can trundle up the driveway. The delay also gives the snow melter some time to work on the ice.

We'll leave my car at the bottom. I don't intend to use it until Friday, when I go for a PT session. On Monday I did cancel Tuesday's session. Walking driveway and throwing snow melter - that must count for something, right?

The donuts turned out nice yesterday. We did some with granulated sugar and cinnamon, some with confectioners' sugar, and glazed the rest. Rick helped me and then he took some up to his mom's while they were still nice and fresh. My sister came over to pick hers up and some went to our neighbors. Rick is munching on what's left. I had one donut, but ate a few donut holes. They were good. And I only burned myself once, right on the tip of a finger. Wouldn't be a baking session if I didn't burn myself at least once. I really like the new fryer, too; it's much safer than using his mom's (very!) old electric saucepan.

We ended up with 6-7 inches of snow. It was done by around 9:30 in the morning, snowplow guru plowed the driveway around 11:00 and we're out. Not a biggie. I was getting a little worried because we kept losing power, but it would come back on in about 4-5 minutes later. From the heavy snow on wires and such. We're fine.

Rick's vertigo is better and he's going to try bowling tonight. He shoveled out around the cars and such yesterday. He wasn't going to bowl, but one of the other bowlers went to Texas to help his sister and Rick doesn't want to take a John Doe.
  • Breakfast for the girls, emptied the dishwasher, and made Rick's coffee.
  • General straightening up in the kitchen. I'm not taking the fryer to the basement yet as we're going to make fried chicken and hushpuppies on Friday for dinner. I've never made hushpuppies before, so that should be interesting.
  • Vacuum, swiffer

Our snow storm from Tuesday was pretty much of dud, around me. We got "snulsh" : combo of rain and tiny bit of slush coming done. Not even enough to completely cover the cars. Only one side had any of this.
Very Cold outside.
Yesterday was busy:
Regular morning stuff
Medicate Geoffrey--chemo day
Corn Hole
Coffee with a couple of friends-- in here, not going out
Cuddled with Geoffrey
Set up for Ash Wednesday service
Dressed for the Service
tiny snack for supper
Cuddled with Geoffrey
done..

Today:
Regular morning stuff..
Cuddle and brush Geoffrey
Quickly medicate him
Have to take a 91 year old friend to Church Mass today. She has a special mass for someone.
Out to lunch-- her idea.
It will be an early supper/lunch
nothing much on the agenda...
Try to warm up-- 27 degrees right now, at 9 AM.

Judging by the snow in the feeders about six inches overnight. As soon as I finish coffee I will get the new snowblower running and clear it. Rowing after that and then a package to pick up. Turned out to be adventures in starting a snowblower. Could NOT get it started, used the small electric snowblower and then came in and read the manual, went back out, no start. came in and watched videos, no start. Googled and found a very helpful Reddit post that actually got it started! It took me well over an hour but I got it running. Passing on rowing because I used all my energy up. Starting a new puzzle instead.

This morning I

unloaded dishwasher
started yogurt in Insta-pot
walked down the driveway and started hacking at bamboo that is arched over my car and held in place with frozen snow

Note to self - next time walk down when snow stops and shake bamboo free of wet snow before it freezes in place

Into town for a very nice lunch - I had turkey avocado sandwich on toasted rye bread with a couple of cups of hot tea with honey and lemon.

stop in pharmacy to see if my primary care doctor had responded to their fax about a confusion with my prescription. No, they had not. Oh well, I have 3 days worth left.

since we are in town make a stop at the IGA for milk and cake flour (having used the last of the flour for last night's dumplings.) There were stacks of the free newspaper by the exit so I grabbed about 4 to use for fire lighting.

And now I will sit

Yesterday, I dragged my lazy butt out of bed and went into the hospital for blood work. Got back home and we went to a local furniture store to look at rocker recliners. The store had a two-fer sale and we found a nice Catnapper rocker recliner with heat and massage. We came "this close" to buying two chairs (and getting rid of our couch), then our logical minds took over and we decided to wait. We haven't received any of my medical bills yet for 2024 (paid what we got so far for 2023) and decided to wait to see what the medical bills look like first. We're sure they'll go on sale again at some point.

Had a scant covering of snow yesterday evening. Nothing to really worry about.
  • Breakfast for the girls, emptied the dishwasher, and am back here with my glass of OJ and chipped ice, which doesn't even begin to compare with coffee, darn it!
  • I threw a load of laundry in the washer. Didn't split it into two loads, just threw it in the way it was, on the X-large cycle.
  • Will get strawberries out of the freezer to thaw in the fridge overnight to make Strawberry Pretzel Salad to take over to my sister's Saturday night for our dessert.

Yesterday was regular stuff around the house in the morning, out to Mass at noon, then out to lunch/supper. Came home, had. cup of decaf Irish Breakfast tea, and a few pizzelles (Italian anisette wafer cookies). I made a phone call and just cuddled and re-brushed Geoffrey the rest of the day.. Oh, took trash out also.

I had a wonderful grilled Salmon with balsamic glaze, grilled asparagus and coleslaw.. with a glass of water and lemon. It was so good. I really like salmon. and I crave a good haddock, my way.. But with Geoffrey in here, I would have to share with him.. I Amy Brad down and do so..
They have fish/salmon on the menu in here; I will not eat it. I do not know what they do to it, but it is bland, overcooked, sitting in water... It is really bad.. So going out for salmon was a rarity for me. I need to do it again.

Today:
regular morning stuff
Chemo day for Geoffrey
Have to clean off car
Have to put in a work order for a few things around here.
not sure what else. I need to figure out something for supper. Perhaps an omelette.. Or frittata. It is Lent, so no meat. I could have tuna, but I am not sure if my bread is good. I have a few slices frozen.. so....

We got about 3.5 inches of snow overnight. Dear Richard is outside shoveling around the cars, but he's going to leave the driveway alone. The sun is shining and it will melt...eventually.
  • I just took the pretzel crust out of the oven for Strawberry Pretzel Salad. Once it's cooled, I'll throw together the filling (cream cheese, sugar, and whipping topping) and stick it in the fridge for an hour. Then put the strawberries/Jell-O on the top.
  • Just some general straightening-up around here. Nothing major.
  • If I can talk Rick into it, I'd like to trim some claws. Molli has started to claw the rug in front of the couch and Tabby is clawing around the couch again. That usually means the claws need some work. We'll get Tabby first; if we do Molli first, Tabby disappears and we don't see her the rest of the day!

Rearranged the home office yesterday I truly like the new layout - there is floorspace. Today will be sorting out papers and the lke and putting things away. Fixing shelving in a closet and getting 2nd montior and computer set up for work. The desk (6x3) sat in the middle of the room before so it was always walking around the desk to get to things now the desk is in front of a large window and the hutch is to the wall directly behind. And the biggest blessing is no cords all over God's green earth, everything run neatly beind the desk and hutch. Cats are not amused - their chair got moved - shame on me and their hiding spots have changed.

Well done, Gunther4ever Gunther4ever Sometimes that's all it takes, rearrange what you have and it is so much nicer that you wonder why it took so long to think of.

Last night was bitter, bitter cold, 9 degrees Fahrenheit. Good thing Himself turned on the generator heater last night, to keep oil from thickening to sludge. Likewise I turned on the auxiliary heater in the greenhouse. But the sun is shining in clear blue sky and temperatures are rising very nicely. Almost up to freezing point.

Today I need to vacuum the stairs up from the basement. With the constant shuffle of wood from basement to upstairs wood rack then into the stove there is a trail of tiny bits of bark, toothpick like slivers of wood, etc.

Took two "burgers" out of freezer, which I think will become Salisbury steak for supper tonight. Trying to decide on instant mashed potatoes (easy) or fries (more work.) Will see how I feel closer to dinner time.

I have been totally lazy for several days and haven’t done much. I did do some laundry and was happy to find that the new dryer doesn’t leaves sheets balled up with one left wet in the middle. A big thumbs up for that. More cat laundry to do today and I am working up energy to walk the mall.

The dining room and living room is an open floor plan - so one wall in the dining area and at the living room area on the opposite side it's all mirrored- its alot of glass to clean.....lol

Timmy was very freaked out by the mirrors so I taped up paper( bottom half) Now that I've got the new sectional it covers the bottom in the living room and I bought self stick wallpaper that looks like white wood planks and did 32" from the floor in the dining area, looks really nice...... Timmy's too scared of the strange cat with no scent ,lol
