Power went out yesterday morning at 8:39 a.m. Generator on. Himself called it in and got JCP&L's usual "power will be restored in 2 hours." That's their default. Call in at 10:30 a.m. and the recording assures the caller that power will be restored before 1:00 p.m. Himself gets more and more aggravated. We drive up to the adjacent street where there was a problem with the underground line several weeks ago and yes, there are several trucks and a bunch of linemen standing around.

They have some device that's supposed to make noise when it is over the fault in the underground line (and this is very high power, not like the cord to your toaster) but it isn't beeping. The reason the line is underground here is because the adjacent property is a private airfield (man has a single engine plane he hangers on his property, grass strip for take off / landings) and aerial power lines are verboten. The real answer is to replace the entire underground line. But there are "issues" (maybe money? You think? Although several trucks and several linemen standing around for several hours . . . )

Power restored about 8:30 a.m. this morning. Coffee never tasted so good

Bob is not coming in this afternoon to finish Evil. I gave him the option, since I'm still snotting around quite a bit. He chose to wait until next week and I don't blame him one bit. If I could stay away from me, I would!

So now, I don't have much of anything to do. I cleaned the house yesterday, wiped down the kitchen and bathroom, wiped kitty schnuffle off the living room windows.
  • Sitting here with my coffee. Muffin pooped on the mat outside the litter box, so I cleaned that up and cleaned the mat. She's not doing it very often anymore, but she still does it, maybe once a week or so. Those boxes get scooped every day, sometimes twice a day, so it's that they're dirty. I swear.
  • I have the first of two loads of laundry in the washer.
  • I watched the first two episodes of Three Pines (Prime, I think) a couple weeks ago. I can go out to the Shed and watch a few more this afternoon and tonight.

I finished the first season of Three Pines yesterday. It was good and I hope there's a second season.
Still breezy around here, although not blustery. It's going to be cold again until Tuesday or Wednesday until it starts to warm back up. Rick is talking about planting the peas on Tuesday. And the onions should be shipped in a week or so.
  • The girls allowed us to sleep in until almost 7:30 this morning. I gave them breakfast, made Rick's coffee and stuck it in the fridge, grabbed a hot, hot, hot shower, and am sitting back here with my coffee. I'll scoop in a bit.
And other than that, I think my day is my own. No housework to speak of, no baking, no laundry, and no cooking tonight. I'll probably hit the Shed again this afternoon. Maybe I'll try Skinwalker Ranch again. I was feeling badly last week when I tried to watch it and I kept falling asleep because I was so pooped. But I never did watch the third season of Picard yet. That's on the list for today, too.

OMG, I finished the first five episodes of Picard and it's just simply awesome. When he said, "Engage!" I fist-pumped the air. I couldn't help it. Yes! And Worf! That's all I'll say, but it's really, really good. At least I think so. And then I went to Skinwalker Ranch and am on the seventh episode, although I think I slept through most of the sixth. It's OK, I guess. I find some things hard to believe.
  • I did Rick's mom's Kindle this morning and Rick will take it up to her. She wants me to listen to samples of the books before I borrow them because some of the narrators are hard for her to understand. She was upset that she couldn't listen to one of the books because she couldn't understand what was going on. It's frustrating, for both of us. I listened to a sample of each book I borrowed for her this morning. (Rick looked at me and rolled his eyes, the brat.) But even though I could understand, it doesn't mean she will. She uses hearing aids and her hearing is getting progressively worse. Rick called to make sure she'd be around (not at an activity) and she asked if I was coming. I'm not, not with this cold; although I'm feeling better, I'm still snotting and no way am I taking a chance on giving this to her! But she's upset because she wants to talk to me about the books.
  • Vacuum, swiffer, etc. Just a quick pass, nothing big.
  • I started going through kitchen cabinets and drawers. Again. Why? I "lost" one of my 1/4 cup measuring cups. Things have a tendency to get thrown out around here with both of us being in the kitchen. I went through a kitchen drawer and found my measuring cup. What it was doing in there is completely beyond me, although I have a pretty good idea. Now if I could find my 1/2 cup measuring cup, I'd be in good shape. Unfortunately, that's been missing for a good year now. (And people wonder why I have more than one set of utensils......)

And the garden begins! We're planting peas today! We only planted peas one time and, although they did well for us, we've not planted them since. It's supposed to be fairly sunny and a bit warm. I think the rain showers come in tomorrow.

Evidently Rick was serious about doing AC this year. He made several phone calls yesterday and we have appts with a couple companies to do estimates and help us figure out what we want. Last year was simply horrid with the heat and humidity (and the drought) and he says we're not putting the girls through that again. Tabby, esp, minded the heat. And so did I, to be honest, although I love having open windows in the house and I'll miss the fresh air.
  • Breakfast for the girls, running the dishwasher, and am back here with my coffee
  • Trash night tonight
  • Starting the garden this afternoon. Just the peas. Walk around and pick up sticks and branches from the wind over the weekend.

There's a guy coming in around 10:00 to go over AC with us. He's from Trane/Comfort Specialists. I'm curious to see what will happen.
My BIL found 50-pound bags of Sir Galahad (King Arthur) at a local store. He's picking up a bag for me as I type and I'll get it from him tomorrow. 50 pounds for $29.75, excellent price! He got one for himself and one for me.
  • Slept in until 8:30; Rick got up with the girls. Still working on my coffee.
  • I might go into the farmers' market today to sign up for a pizza-making class. You can never learn too much about pizza! The class is $20 and you take your pizza home. It depends on how large the class is. A couple of our local wineries have opened stalls at the market and I need a bottle of dry Marsala for Chicken Marsala on Saturday. And, of course, Rick will enjoy a hot sausage sandwich while we're there.
There's really not much to talk about today.

Didn't make it to the market, so I haven't signed up for the pizza class. While I'd like to take the class, I don't now that I want to be that close to other people anymore.
  • Breakfast for the girls, emptied the dishwasher, and am back here with my coffee.
  • Rick has an appt with the tax-weenies to have our taxes done. I'm meeting with my SIL and BIL this morning to grab my bag of KA flour. Need to hit the liquor store for the Marsala, since I didn't make it to market yesterday. And the grocery store for fresh 'shrooms and lemons. He's taking the Tucson; I need to take Clarence out for a drive.
  • Get the laundry sorted tonight to do tomorrow.

I took delivery of Mum’s and my new pillows and put them on the beds; handed over my car keys to the mechanic who‘s taking it in for a service; and paid Phoebe’s and Daisy’s registration fees for the year.

Oh and lucky fourth I’m knitting the jumper I started on Tuesday, as well as browsing TCS. :)

Take care artiemom artiemom . Don't do too much!

We received the proposal for the AC; it's pretty much around what Rick thought it would be.
The county is having a household hazardous waste collection today. Rick took some of our stuff in to get rid of it. He's stopping off at the tax-weenies to take our returns back and get the ball rolling to get our refund. We'll put it toward the AC this year.
  • Working on the first of two loads of laundry.
  • Vacuum, swiffer, etc. Wipe bathroom and kitchen.
  • Make some Texas Roadhouse-type yeast rolls for tomorrow.
  • Check the Shed plants. I lost three of my four violets. I honestly don't know why. Get the Shed ready for tomorrow; I move plants around, so there's room on the stand between the couch and chair for whatever goodies we're having while we finish Evil. Put more Smirnoff in the fridge. It's supposed to be a rainy, cool day, so it'll be a good day to binge-watch.
  • We have free Showtime this weekend. We really want to see that last (new to us) season of Dexter at some point, if possible! There are ten episodes, I think.

Sigh. I think I told everyone how a friend and Himself spent a day updating / transferring files from Sony Windows 7 to HP Windows 10 for me. I am slowly learning how HP wants me to communicate with it. Also just learned that the HP claims that Arachnophilia, the program I use to create entries for my web site in HTML, is not accessible. Or something.

So yesterday evening I worked on the Sony to create a brief entry for the talk I'll be giving in April. Uploaded. And yes, it is everywhere (my HP, Himself's computers) visible.

BUT - the files with edited pictures and HTML of course do not exist on the HP.

I want to make a longer entry about the tree work we had done last Tuesday. I can do that on the Sony and upload it so it is there for all to see. BUT - again the images and HTML will not be available to me on the HP.

So I will, reluctantly, do it on the Sony. Which still starts shadowing on the monitor if it is on for any length of time.

Himself will see about uploading a newer version of Arachnophilia on his HP Windows 10 machine to ascertain that all is well before he installs it on my machine.

Computers. So easy to love / hate choose one.
