Very successful trip to Marshall’s. Didn’t pick up any Christmas gifts but did find a pair of winter boots. I have been searching for warm pair of slip on boots since I no longer fit into the ones I have and it’s hard to find ones that I can get into because my arthritic foot is swollen on top . These are a good brand, Minnesota Moccasin, are waterproof, seem to be super warm and slip on easily.

Wow, what a busy weekend... I did a ton of stuff in here. Some things were unexpected and caused me more work.. Walked at least 8,000 steps each day..
Today, not bad, but a few things.
*Regular Morning stuff--- medicate Geoffrey, Swifter, Vacuum, dishes, bed, etc...
* Had to go pick up some meds for Geoffrey, in Boston.
* on the way home, picked up a pumpkin pie and a spinach/feta croissant at the bakery.
* Stopped at the buildings store for some whipped cream.. they only had 2 left!! The order came in last week... also grabbed a cup of coffee
* Took litter in from trunk of car--- picked up yesterday
*put in a work request for the bi-folding door to my closet. Yesterday, one end got stuck on the track and the other end came off the track, with the spring locked into place.Shush---- I could not even kick it back into place..It is a cheap metal, and very old.. so I got frustrated.

Took some food, G will not eat, as a donation to Angell Memorial.

On my way out, I ran into some people I know-- so a bit of chatting...

On the way into the building, I ran into the building's Rabbi. She asked if I was planning on attending her Inter denominational Thanksgiving Prayer service, tomorrow morning. It will be focusing on being thankfu, and praying for peace. There will be several religious people: my priest from St Anthony's, a minister from a protestant church, a Cleric from the Muslim faith, and I do not know who else. I think the Mayor and some politicians will be here, also.
The Rabbi asked If I would do a prayer reading, for Peace; written by another Rabbi. So now, I have a prayer to read.
Need to go over it. I will have to stand at the podium in order to read it.

Now, I am in for the day, and the workman came in to fix the closet door. Done for the day.. had the croissant, the coffee. put the things away.. just have to take out a couple of items from the freezer, to thaw for Thursday... and make a phone call.. or 2....

Last night I prepared dough for chocolate chocolate chip cookies, adding some instant espresso powder to zip it up. Will bake today. First batch of Thanksgiving cookies to bring to family event.

Also planning on banketstaff. Cakes - flourless orange chocolate cake (daughter is gluten intolerant), Wellsley fudge cake, and a cheese cake. Tomorrow will be oven on, like all day I guess.

Himself has an appointment at the family health center this morning. He'll also stop at Napa to get oil - when he was checking his car for our drive on Thursday he also checked my car's tires (low) and oil (also low).

I'll go with him. My stop is the IGA - I forgot I need oranges for daughter's cake, and will also get milk and bananas.

Feeling a little frantic about the baking.

UPDATE with complication. Health center has staffing issue, can Himself come in this afternoon? When it is supposed to be pouring down rain. Yes he can but we will go this morning to IGA and NAPA.

Yesterday, Rick and I made the cranberry relish for Thanksgiving. It's kind of a "thing" that the husband helps the wife with making the relish, probably because, for years, my mom used a old food grinder to grind it all together. And Dad would help her. Eventually, they bought an electric food grinder, but Dad still helped Mom. When Mom couldn't do it anymore, I started making the cranberry relish. She gave me the electric grinder and, when my sister or my niece needs it for something, she'll take it and then bring it back. It lives in the basement and everybody in the family knows where it's at down there. But then Rick got me a grinder for my KA mixer and we started using that instead. Rick still helps; he says it's family tradition and he has to do it. A bit of family history there.

Then, while he was up in the garden with his leaves, I made the turkey brine and put it out on the deck to cool down. Got it back in the house, put it in gallon jugs and put it in the fridge for Wednesday night. Made a batch of cornbread to put in our crock pot stuffing. Rick came back in the house for a drink as I was cubing the cornbread and, as fast as I was cubing, he was eating. :) He does like cornbread. I still have enough for the stuffing.

He took Bill, our elderly neighbor, to the eye doctor for his cataract surgery this morning. We didn't want Mary, Bill's wife, to have to drive in all the crazy traffic for the holiday. And we are to get rain later on this morning that will start out as ice. We didn't want her driving in that either. Tomorrow, he's taking Bill back up for a check up on the eye that was already done.
  • Got up a little before 8:00, grabbed a quick shower, gave the girls their after-breakfast breakfast, and threw the first load of laundry in the washer. I'm back here with my coffee.
  • I have three loads of laundry to do.
  • Vacuum, swiffer, all that good stuff. Wipe bathroom. Clean out the fridge to make room for T-Day stuff.
  • Trash night. I'll get it all together and Rick can take it down to the end of the driveway for tomorrow.

Today is pretty tame compared to tomorrow.
Work
Make out grocery list
Maybe do a load or two of laundry

Tomorrow...
Work (although boss is letting me go at 11:30)
Pick up T-giving dinner from Bob Evans
Pick up cat litter from Tractor Supply
Pick up grocery order

Friday-Sunday since I'm off, I plan on doing my monthly deep house clean and then possibly decorate for Christmas but I'm still really liking my Fall/Thanksgiving decor so I might just wait until the first weekend in December to decorate for Christmas. At least the deep clean will be done so I can just focus on decorating.

The IGA did not have oranges. Tomorrow morning . . . No, not going out tomorrow. Bought tangerines instead. If the recipe had amount by weight rather than quantity I'd be good. Will have to wing it.

Prepared dough for chocolate mint cookies (having unearthed the Andes bits in the freezer.)

So tonight I will bake chocolate chocolate chip (mini chips and use small scoop, roll in confectioners sugar before baking to distinguish them from) chocolate mint cookies (same small scoop size, not rolled in confectioners sugar) and chocolate dipped fruitcake balls (chop fruitcake, form into balls, dip in melted chocolate.)

And I think I'll make some cranberry cherry ginger relish, which can go with the cheesecake on Thursday.

Dinner? What do you mean, dinner/

Kwik Kwik , aw thanks! They've lived here since we have and they're really nice. He is in his upper 80s and she's only a few years younger. He still works outside, puttering around his yard. They had been thinking of moving into assisted living, but they really don't want to just yet. And we're happy having them next door. Our other neighbors are younger than we are and they help out a lot, too. We are blessed to have a good neighborhood here. Everybody helps everybody.

It's downright cold this morning. And foggy. We had a ton of rain yesterday, so Rick ended up staying inside. I got the laundry finished, but that's as far as I got.

Rick is taking our neighbor into town for an eye check up this morning. Stopping on the way home for a bag of ice and a large roasting bag.
  • Breakfast for the girls, emptied the dishwasher, and am back here with my coffee. For the last few months, we have been feeding Mixed Grill and Liver and Chicken only (Friskies pate); they are really the only two canned foods Tabby will eat anymore. So Tabby has decided she no longer wants to eat Liver and Chicken; that leaves us with Mixed Grill. And last night at supper, Tabby got her plate of Mixed Grill and said, "No, nope, nada, don't want it. Not gonna eat it." And walked away. So this morning, I just gave up. Fixed three plates of Liver and Chicken and prepared myself for Tabby's shenanigans. Only to see her dig into her food like there's no tomorrow. That's the first she's eaten L & C in a couple weeks. Scarfed her plate and then finished Muffin's. I looked at her and said, "Really, woman? Now you eat L & C?" And she said, "Well, why wouldn't I!" As long as I live, I will never understand cats.
  • Prep work for tomorrow. Chop lots of onions and celery, so I don't have to deal with them tomorrow. Get Rick's cheesecake out of the freezer and into the fridge. Make iced tea. Make the base for my gravy, so all I have to do is add turkey drippings tomorrow. Make SmittenKitchen's pecan pie. Check on Mr. Turkey to make sure he's thawed and ready. And then tonight, around 9:00, Mr. Turkey goes into his brine. The turkey and brine will go into a large roasting bag. The roasting bag will go into our ice chest, which will then be packed with ice. We'll throw a blanket over the chest. And keep it in the basement overnight.
  • Vacuum, swiffer, since I didn't get it done yesterday.
  • And whatever else I can find to do.

Wow, Winchester Winchester & C catapault , You guys are amazing! I used ro do all that, but I stopped.
Today is an "eat pie" day, morning. They are giving us free pie and coffee this morning. It is an annual event, usually the day after T-day, but this year, it is the day before. I think I may go down for some coffee... It is at 11am

I also put in a work order for them to take apart, vacuum, the air vent in the bathroom. I have been meaning to do this for a long time, but yesterday, Geoffrey had a coughing spell, and my sinuses are bugging me. I had them clean the kitchen vent, a month ago. I do not know if it has done any good, because I keep finding dust covering my ninja oven.

Today, will be:
*Quick morning stuff
*shower, medicate Geoffrey
* take some things out of the bathroom
* go down for pie...
* make a phone call
* finish up on line.... stuff....
* perhaps chop some onions for tomorrow. and figure out if I will be making stuffing or my own rice pilaf. I am thinking more of stuffing...
* Vacuum well.. since I did not do it yesterday.

Gotta get going.....

Odds and ends today. Picking up a few more things for dinner tomorrow and annual cookie bake with son on Saturday. Framing a couple of photos that have been in a drawer since we cleaned out mom’s house. Moving mittens and gloves to the front closet ( I don’t know when I have been this prepared for snow and winter!).

Tired again this morning because I couldn't sleep last night. Last time I looked at the clock, it was 2:40. Bleah
Rick is walking with one of our neighbors.
  • Drinking my (much-needed) coffee
  • This morning, we have to go over to my sister's to take care of their cats. And then do it again tonight after dinner.
  • Other than that, my morning and afternoon will consist of meal prep, dinner, and then cleaning up.

Power went out Tuesday night at about 10:30 p.m. At first JCP&L told Himself - when he called in - that power would be restored at 4:00 a.m. Then they called us to say it would be later than that. Rinse and keep repeating. Power restored at 8:33 p.m. Wednesday night. So my Thanksgiving baking of three cakes was accompanied by the background "music" of the generator running.

Car is pretty well packed up. We're leaving in about an hour. Someone is coming to feed the cats this early evening and tomorrow morning (no, it's not Winchester Winchester . ) We have a hotel room for tonight, family brunch tomorrow morning, then head home. That will be our Black Friday, on the road.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone on TCS, and a snuggle to their furries from Domino, Mr Poe, and me, Catapault.

Happy Thanksgiving to all...

This morning will be a lazy morning.. I am staying home and cooking a ton for one. If my meal comes out good, I will see, and share with a friend who is also staying home. She is allergic to cats, so she cannot come down her for dinner.

* regular morning stuff
* ? phone call.... could go on for a long time...
* medicate Geoffrey-- chemo day, plus he needs some laxatone
* take chicken out of refrigerator, measure and as Anne Burrell always says get my:" Mise en Place! "
* take my time cooking...
* clean up as I go along..
First meal with Ninja oven.... hopefully I do not set off the fire alarm!! do not have an over the stove vent.. stupid building. I guess they did not think that seniors would be cooking!!!
* Dessert will be either the pumpkin pie with whipped cream or Pumpkin Ice Cream

Then just settle back, watch a movie... probably doze off during it...

Not getting fully dressed---- just lounging clothes today....

*** and of course, Cuddle with Geoffrey in between.....

We hope you all had a nice Thanksgiving!
artiemom artiemom How was your Ninja dinner?

Rick and I had a good dinner with plenty of leftovers. I threw leftover stuffing in the freezer, but kept enough out for dinner tonight. We put FoodSaver bags of turkey in the freezer to use later on, but again, enough in the fridge for tonight. I was disappointed in the pecan pie; well, not the filling, but the crust. The pecan filling was absolutely TDF and I'd make it again. The crust just wasn't that great. Make the crust, completely freeze, then par-bake. Cool, completely freeze, then add the chocolate ganache base. Completely freeze yet again, then pour in the pecan filling. Then bake. Even with a pie shield, the crust was way too brown for me. Rick likes chocolate, but he thought the chocolate base was overkill. Me, I adore chocolate and thought it was great. Suffice to say that our dinner was very good and we ate way too much.

Molli OD'ed on turkey. We were careful with what we gave the girls; Tabby and Molli ate most of it, with Muffin trying it and saying, "Nah, I'll pass". Later on, I found Molli stretched out in bed under the electric blanket. I tried to talk to her and she could barely open one eye. She stretched, curled up, and she was out for a couple of hours. A turkey nap.

Rick will take some pecan pie and apple crumb cheesecake to his mom's this afternoon. I'm curious as to what she thinks about the pie. She's 102, lives in a nursing home, and I still call her to get her take on various foods and recipes. She's been my cooking/baking mentor now for 50+ years. I had talked to her about par-baking that damn crust and she told me to try it and we'd see what it was like. I'm curious to see how she feels.
  • Breakfast for the girls, emptied the dishwasher, and am back here with my coffee.
  • When Rick gets back from his walk, we're going over to take care of my sister's fur-clan one last time; they'll be home later on today. I love those kids; they're hilarious. Yesterday, while Rick and I were washing cat dishes, Ellie (about five months old now) jumped up on the counter, picked up a can of Kitten food (by the edge, with her teeth!) and carried it from the counter over to the kitchen table. Knocked it to the floor and started batting it around the kitchen. She's a riot. I've never, ever seen a cat pick up a can of food like that. I texted my sister and she's never seen Ellie do that either, but she's seen cans of Kitten food on the floor. Oh, and once the can is on the floor, Ellie tears the wrapper off the can. Now, I know why my sister keeps all cans of food in a large bin on the kitchen counter! It's always something new with her furkids.
  • Going to work on decorating the kitchen for Christmas today. I don't think I'm going to get all the Winterberry out this year.
  • Get the laundry ready tonight to work on tomorrow morning.

Winchester Winchester Glad you had a great T-day... too bad about the pie.. but I know the rest of the meal was excellent.
The Ninja worked out well... really good, and I used both ovens, top and bottom. I was very pleased!
Leftovers for tonight... and perhaps tomorrow. I will see how I feel; as I am not a leftover fan.. But then-- What to have for Saturday/Sunday ?? sigh...
I will think of something. Not wanting to go shopping--- although the grocery store should be fairly quiet... need to pick up a script, anyway; so I will be out tomorrow. Not today; I am pooped.. just a relaxing day with Geoffrey. He was neglected yesterday. I made it up to him, last evening and last night.
