Today I watched a bunch of YouTube while I worked on a landscaping plan for my front yard. Later, I went to get my Covid booster and then I picked up pho for dinner. Right now, I'm still watching YouTube. I really need to go in my pottery studio sometime, but I keep putting off going down there.

Hoping to get my booster in the next couple days!

We're getting our Covid booster on Wednesday.
I think the rain has ended; we got over an inch this weekend.

Dear Richard was watching Cook's Country on Saturday night and came across a recipe for New England Bar Pizza. He started telling me about it and asked me to find the recipe. Well, I tried, but my subscription to ATK ran out. When I told him, he said, "You know, just renew it." "Seriously?" "Yeah, go ahead." Well, I got a decent deal on renewal, I guess, so I went ahead and renewed. Watched the video for the pizza. They were insistent (as were the reviewers) on using dark baking pans. I don't have dark baking pans; I don't really care for them because I think baked goods (cookies, cakes) tend to be overdone. Rick: That's what Amazon is for. "Seriously?" "Yeah, go ahead." The pans should be here on Tuesday. I also found a Lloyd's dark ten-inch pan that I think would be great for my priazzo. That should be here Wednesday. My point? I'm not always responsible for my kitchen stuff! The man feeds right into my addiction!

Anyway...
  • The first of two loads of laundry is in the washer
  • Debating whether to put flannel sheets and the heavier comforter on the bed. I'm really cold at night. Already. Rick is going to turn the AC over to Heat with the temp right around 68F. We'll see how that goes. We're in the 40s around here now at night, lower than average temp. I turned the heat on in the Shed on Sunday because of the plants.
  • We didn't get the girls' claws done yesterday, so they must be done today. They are way overdue.

Went to a couple different pharmacies and they still don’t have the COVID booster in. I would really like to get it done because I have a wedding to go to mid October. I also got my hair cut this morning, which was really needed. Too wet outside to work there and not much to do inside except a bit of laundry.

Schedule an appointment with Walgreens. I scheduled my appointment for Sunday on Friday, so it isn't a long wait.

I guess I lied about the rain. Woke up this morning, went out to the kitchen, looked out the window, and it's soggy and wet. Bleah. Weather weenie said last night that this should be it. Rain yet this morning, but clearing this afternoon. The gas installation weenies came around 7:00 this morning and set the orange cones in the road. They disappeared and came back a few minutes ago to put the cones back in the yard. Evidently, they've decided not to work today with the rain this morning.

I was going to make a shoofly cake yesterday. As I was gathering ingredients, Rick suggested that I wait until Thursday and make a hot milk sponge cake instead. That way, he can take some to his mom on Friday and it will be fresher.

Oh, and I figured out how to do his mom's Kindle without having to go up and actually use her Kindle. I'm using a library card in Rick's name for his mom's Kindle (her own card ran out and they gave me a ton of grief about her not living in the county and having to go to her new county library for a card. I tried to explain that she's in a nursing home, she's actually lived most of her life in this county, etc. They cut me a break the other year when it ran out, but refused to do so this time, so Rick got a library card and I use that for his mom). Anyway, I now have both cards (Rick's and mine) on my iPad on the Libby app; when I want to get audiobooks for Evelyn, I just use Rick's library number and it will show up on her Kindle at the nursing home. When I want books for me, I use my own number. Everything shows up on my Libby app, so I can tell when she's getting close to her books expiring and can renew them for her from home; I don't need to actually use her Kindle. I cannot believe that I am such an idiot that I didn't think of this sooner! It makes it so much easier to put more popular books on Hold for her, too. When they're ready to borrow, I don't have to make a mad dash to the nursing home to use her Kindle within the three days the books are available to borrow; I can just borrow it from my home and it shows up on her Kindle. Easy! Why didn't I figure this out sooner?! :sigh:
  • Wash a load of towels
  • Vacuum, swiffer, all that good stuff
  • Start dragging Halloween stuff out
  • Trash night tonight. My compost container is full, so that needs to go up to the composter today, too.

Shopping on schedule for this rainy day. I need to look at snowblowers, pick up a furnace filter and find another bath/cat mat for Lola.

Kind of craziness today.. nothing new, living in this building.
Last night, the power went off... only emergency lighting in the halls; apartments were pitch black. I was reclining so nicely on the recliner, with a throw, PJ's and Geoffrey on my lap.. Blam, all went dark!! I am always prepared for an emergency loss of power or even water main break. I had to push Geoffrey off my lap, opened the blinds, saw the street lights on, but no lights in the buildings.. so it was a wide outage, for this neighborhood.

Heard neighbors out in corridor, went out to talk; making sure Geoffrey did not run out. Came in, went into my drawer, where I keep an ancient old fashioned corded telephone with a long line. It was really fun trying to plug it into the telephone outlet, in the dark. Finally got a flashlight, and connected it.
Then, more talk outside... went to check it out... Then in to grab stepstool, with flashlight, for my closet. My supplies are on the top shelf..Finally grabbed the emergency lanterns, and a very old Boombox, which has great reception with batteries.

Geoffrey was curled around my legs the entire time. It was dark and I was afraid he would either trip me, or I would step on him. I had to slither my way around...

Thank goodness the elevators were working! They said out of order, but they worked!! very slow, but we used it in groups. The fire department came to check things out. Comcast sent a text, apologizing for the outage of service!!!
There were 5 National Grid trucks in front of my building.. Heard they were working on 'something' late afternoon.. strange...
Within an hour, things were back to normal------EXCEPT, now, there was no hot water!! DAM.....The switch had to be reset!!
So, no shower this morning. I heated up water on top of the stove in order to do a quick wash and teeth... Will take a nice long hot shower, later.

Read that National Grid was replacing a telephone pole in front of the building. And that there was a bad car accident not far from here. Wonder if that hit a pole or transformer.. It was a perfect storm in many ways... It was so windy-- gale force winds and rain.. and chilly..

Today is pretty much easy stuff... no vacuuming.. Got together with a few people for coffee. Four of us are having an outing on Thursday. We are going to Salem, MA, taking a tour ride of interesting stuff: Witches, House of 7 Gables, Pickering Wharf, etc.. have lunch, and wander around... getting another sweat shirt.. We are trying to do something "fun', once a month.
It is an expensive day, but so enjoyable.

Next month the Tenants Association is going up to New Hampshire, to visit an Outlet Mall in Merrimack, New Hampshire. My group is going. We do not plan on buying stuff, but we plan to walk around, have some coffee and a snack. The Bus will stop for pizza on the way back...

Have to go out to pick up a prescription; return and put the supplies away!

Weird, mixed up day. nothing went as planned.

Having made 6 jars of Concord grape jelly the other day I am now working on Concord grape butter. What's that? Think apple butter but made with pureed grapes after pouring off free run juice.

Two loads of laundry, both washed, both dried, one folded and one to go.

Another damp gray day. Put flannel sheets on the bed yesterday, flannel shirts in closet, brought cat caves out of storage closet and placed on sofa and loveseat. Some day soon we need to rearrange great room furniture to its winter configuration.

Its hard. My grandparents were in this county for 60 years and while they spoke some English, it was hard for them to fully express themselves in it.

Wow artiemom artiemom You're prepared for anything! I'm glad it was for the one day AND that, while it was chilly and rainy, this didn't happen during winter. I want to go to Salem with you!

We're confined to our property. The gas weenies came in bright and early and dug the trench to lay the gas pipe. They'll put a steel plate at the end of the driveway at the end of the day today, so we can get out tonight, but for today, we're stuck. Rick isn't amused, but we're not going anywhere today anyway. I received a text from CVS last night that the Covid vaccines didn't come in yet, so they had to cancel our appt for this afternoon. Rick went out for a walk and will ask our neighbor if he can park the car in their driveway when he comes home from bowling tonight; I have to go to hospital tomorrow morning for some tests and I'll need to get the car out. I don't know how long until they close the trench, but it shouldn't be more than a day or two.

Not much going on today, esp since we're stuck at home. Drinking my coffee now. Rick came back to the bedroom this morning, woke me up around 7:30 and said, "How can you sleep with all the noise outside?!" Well, I wasn't having any trouble sleeping until he woke me up. Seriously? Why? I was not amused.
  • Get butter out to make dough for cookies. I'm thinking chocolate chip and white chip and macadamia cookies. Road food for the trip to Maine. We don't go on any kind of road trips without cookies, soda/water, pretzels, etc.; Dear Richard would be appalled. Extra cookies will go to my sister and BIL and to our elderly neighbors. I'll make the dough today and bake them Friday afternoon, maybe Saturday.
  • Some general straightening up, nothing big.
  • My dark pans arrived yesterday. Expecting the larger priazzo pan today, although they won't get up the driveway for delivery.
We turned the AC off yesterday, took all the filters out and washed them. Dried them, then let them finish air-drying. When Rick put everything back together, he turned the mini-splits over to Heat and set the temp for 66F. He'll keep it there until it starts to get colder outside. I think that, on Saturday, I'll change over to flannel sheets with the heavier comforter. So far, though, it's not bad. Although the girls are coming back to bed and they're not overly amused without the electric blanket. I'm not either, to be honest.

Need to put the new furnace filter in, we are about at the point where I will need to turn it on. I also have laundry to do today and maybe get the yard mowed if it’s not too wet.

Yard work this morning, bagging up pine needles. Anyone who thinks pines don’t lose their needles in fall needs to visit my yard around this time - they are a couple inches thick. No idea what I will do the rest of the day. I did find more Pyrex bowls at my fav thrift store so I want to get them photoed and listed.

Guess what? Just for something different it is now raining.

Today I rearranged the great room's furniture: sofa, love seat, chair, glass topped table (on cast iron stove base, so it's heavy) to winter configuration centered on wood burning stove. Himself brought wood stove accessories - ash-away, log rack, etc up from basement and has started moving firewood up from basement.

I need to take shade cloth down from greenhouse roof. It is mounted inside so can be done even if the rain continues tomorrow. There are flood warnings for our county so I rather expect that the wet weather will continue.

Had a lovely day, yesterday, It was a "Girls Day Out". We went up to Salem, MA. Beautiful fall weather! Great time to go. They are getting ready for Halloween Happenings. I drove. We took a trolley bus tour of the city. The windows/side, were wide open. We were so cold from the wind. We had to warm up after the bus tour. We found a specialty chocolate shop, which advertised hot chocolate. Got some specialty hot chocolate.. It was an amazing hot chocolate! A mocha, with our choice of which chocolate blend we wanted. I got a Jeffersonian: 70% chocolate, with almond milk, topped with awesome whipped cream and nutmeg; served in beautiful cups with saucers and a Demi-spoon. It was as if it was 'to be;.. There were 4 seats at a side bar, just waiting for us, when we walked in.
IMG_1661.jpeg

We walked around a few shops; looked for a sweat shirt, but they were so pricey. Too much.. Decided on having an early dinner at the Hawthorne Hotel (old hotel). We felt like having different types of cheeseburgers. Three of us got cheeseburgers with caramelized onions, pickles, cheese, lettuce, tomato. A couple of us had sweet potato fries, one with house made potato chips. Another person ordered a portobello burger: not your typical burger. It was served on one thick slice of sourdough bread, with sautéed spinach, tomato, cheese, with coleslaw on the side. We all had one glass of wine.
For dessert, one woman order a huge vanilla pumpkin sundae, topped with caramel sauce, hot fudge, whipped cream. The waitress brought 4 spoons so all of us could taste it. I was stuffed after the burger. I just had a spoonful to taste it.

All in all, a wonderful day..Perfect weather, good company.. No malicious gossip, but I was 'informed' on a few things. Good to know these things. I was so hyper, I could not sleep last night.

Yesterday, I got over 10,000 steps in. I had 8,000 on the Fitbit when I took it off, and I did a lot more steps before I put it on. I had gone out early for gas and to hit the ATM. So lots of walking for me.

So glad my hip held out. It was 'talking' to me, as we were walking towards the hotel. Actually, I had to stop several times along the way. We sat down and I was rejuvenated, although the hip did start to cramp up a bit on the way home, but I handled it. The others were very thoughtful...

It was an awesome day.. a great outing, good friendship.

Next month the building's tenants association is taking a bus tour to Merrimack, NH, to an outlet mall. We have a couple of stores to visit, then stop for coffee, a snack and just chat... The bus is stopping, on the way home, for pizza. That will be our October outing.

In November, fingers crossed, we are planning just a 'brunch' in someone's apartment. It is close to the holidays, so we will take it easy.. I think I slipped and said I was a scorpion.. as we were in a 'crystal', specialty stone, aura reading, tarot card shop. So, they may be thinking of a celebration.
Now, I need to see what to make/bring for the brunch.

Today is a doctors appointment, then, if I make it home in time, a meeting/talk... and then crash. Oh, I do have to make a salad. I could get it downstairs. It depends how I feel-- how tired I am.

Geoffrey was so mad at me when I came home. It took him a couple minutes, then he came out of my room, and yelled at me for a good 15 minutes, NON-STOP! as he was running around, wanting me to 'chase' him. Screaming at me for leaving him for so long.
Then, he proceeded not to leave my lap, except for a quick nibble and then immediately back again. Woke me up early to tell me he 'Pooped".... How in heavens name did he ever get the idea to wake me up, and tell me he poops! Will never know. I remember, all I have done is say, "Good Boy" after he goes. That had to be enough reinforcement for him. Such a smart, sweet boy.. Who YELLS!!
He cuddled so hard last night. It was like sleeping in a straight-jacket! And he decided he had to either wash himself, or bite his back nails, ALL night long.. would not stop, except for a few minutes..

Next week he sees the IM Vet.

We plan to go back, next year, in the late spring... to see more sights... less crowded.
