After a busy period - including a day's training at the hospital (hospice work helping those who want to end their lives at home), I now have time to list three things to do today. My new kitchen is being installed so I, and three cats, are keeping well out of the way. Woolly Bear is unfortunately determined to oversee the work and, if I am not careful, will trip somebody up - preferably not when he's carrying a heavy piece of equipment into the house.

So, what can I accomplish while sitting in my small spare bedroom/made-do kitchen/office:
Wordle and Nerdle? Done those!
Cook? I'll wait till the end of the week when I can use a proper kitchen!
Work at the surgery? Perhaps I'd better stay at home today, I don't want to leave the two workmen in the house alone with the cats, who may escape out of the open front door.

I must accomplish something:
  1. Phone the social worker at the hospital. I managed to visit on Saturday: it was a sorry picture, my partner is weak, but wants to come home. He won't get out of bed! Not exactly compliant so he can't possibly come back to my house.
  2. Vacuum? The living room is full of boxes - it's April showers here so I moved the furniture against the walls and told the men to put the cabinets for the kitchen in there. No point in cleaning until they are removed. The three scaredy cats are in the bedroom so I can't clean there either!
    So, as alternative: I'll write an e-mail or 2 and try to contact a friend who had tried to contact me (during MY crisis) and now I've found out she is in hospital. Another reason for a bad conscience!
  3. I'll do an easy job - throw out the piles of old newspapers and magazines my partner has stacked up since last October! Looking forward to that. :)
Good luck with all your tasks today!

artiemom artiemom We had a very light coating of snow yesterday. Fortunately, most of it is gone. The only snow on the ground is behind trees and buildings where the sun doesn't reach. I'll take it. Rick wants one knock-down, drag-out snowstorm before winter's end. The man is crazy! BTW, I signed up for my 3 free months of AppleTV (from my new iPad) and can only watch it on my iPad. For some reason, I can't watch it on TV. So there Rick and I were, huddled together on the couch, watching Greyhound on my iPad. If you can figure it out, please tell me; I have a Firestick on the TV in the bedroom.
gilmargl gilmargl The cats were all over everything here, too! They want to su-purr-vise! Rick took vacation when the new kitchen was installed, so I came home from work every day to something new. You are going to love your kitchen so much! I'm thinking of you dealing with your partner. Good luck. :hugs:

I slept in a bit today. That is, until Muffin decided it was past time for her walk, so she started bouncing off the bedroom door. Thud! Thud! Meow! Don't let that gorgeous sunshine fool you; it's darn cold out there.
  • Came back inside, heated up the coffee, gave the girls their after-breakfast breakfast, and am back here. Muffin is snuggled in the bed, all warm and cozy. Orange girls are loud and bossy. Just so you know.
  • We're going for groceries this morning. I wanted to wait another week, but Dear Richard is out of creamer. Must. Go. Today! Ok, then! I told him, "It's on sale this week! Buy 2!" The man went from never drinking coffee in his life to drinking a mug of sugar every morning. Black cherry bourbon-infused coffee with a mass of sugar cookie creamer and ice. It makes me cringe. That's not coffee; I don't know what it is, but it's not coffee. He's just lucky he's so cute.
  • Back out to the WeShed this afternoon.
I've a serious case of cabin fever.

ETA: Bob just called. He has tested positive for COVID. He did a home test because he had sniffles. He's off work for the week and must wear a mask for a week when he goes back to work. And then we'll talk about watching Evil after that. He feels fine, he says it's like a very mild cold. But then, he's had both vaccines and the booster. I told him that, if he needs anything, Rick and I can drop it off on his back porch, knock on the door, and then run like Hell. He got a laugh out of that.

Yesterday I did not accomplish half of what I ha listed.
When I came home from Mass, I just felt horrible... as if I was sleep walking through chores. and so short of breath.. I am going to blame it on my diet, which has been really bad...

I need a steak... I am really craving meat. That usually means I need protein.. and good meat protein. I will have to get one this week--soon.

Do not feel like going out today. I am going to stay in and do a good job cleaning... as well as I can.

Snow--- we got another 3 inches, or more; after Mass.. I am just going to remote start car... not going out.

I pretty much ignored Geoffrey yesterday.. He was kind of understanding; because we took a 2 hour nap, onto of the bed.. covered with a throw. He was under the throw with me.

gilmargl gilmargl I really cannot believe you are involved in hospice. I admire you... I really do.. Such a compassionate person. I am sorry to hear about your partner.. but, I agree that he cannot come back home to you, in this condition, and situation.. Hope things get sorted out very quickly...

Pam if you have a smart tv you can stream the Apple TV on your iPad to your tv. I don’t have Apple TV but I stream other movie sites. I took a screenshot of how to do it. I hope this helps.

It's not only cat food that's part of the empty shelf syndrome. I have been on a wait list for a battery for my Canon camera. Every other week for months and months an announcement arrives (by email) "still out of stock." Last night at 7:58 p.m. an e-mail pops up - "Now available!" Call and . . . they close at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, will be open at 9:00 a.m. on Monday.

Call at 9:03 a.m. this morning and got the Last. Available. Battery. Back on notifications for a second one.

Off for an ultra sound of my right upper extremity (honest, that's how the referral states it) to see if there is a narrowing or something of the ulnar artery, which would explain why that hand can feel cold when the left does not.

Stop at Wal-Mart for distilled water for humidifiers (another empty shelf syndrome item) and other bits and bobs.

The afternoon will, I'm sure, bring another three or more things

It can be frustrating waiting for things that are out. The small battery operated snow thrower I ordered from Amazon with an advertised week delivery has taken four, the IPad is taking two months. And don’t even get me started on cat food. I know this will get better at some point but it is so frustrating.

Winchester Winchester I know I have, somewhere, instructions on how to set up Apple TV to my Firestick.
Of course, I cannot find it now....ugh..

From memory: Since my Apple ID is the same as my email. I remember, that I can download the Apple TV program from Amazon--on my Firestick, Enter in my Apple ID and password... and I am all set...

At least that is all I remember.

As we were driving around from hither to thither and yon (waited 30 minutes to get from radiology waiting room into ultrasound, then lay there while the technician tracked the device from my neck to my wrist, which took an hour) anyhow Himself mentioned that the "batteries now available" email landed in his mailbox about 2:30 p.m. BUT he didn't look at email until 8:00 p.m. So I am very fortunate they had even one left for me.

Don't admire me yet - I am in my second year of training and haven't yet decided whether my main dedication will be to the dying themselves, their relatives (adult carers or children), (later) the grieving or, even less demanding, organisational, awareness and fundraising tasks.
Thank you for your good wishes.

Another day to be spent in my tiny spare room while the kitchen is taking shape.
  • I have done Wordle and Nerdle
  • Tried to continue reading "The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue" but failed
  • Spoke to a very sympathetic man who is trying to ensure that my partner gets a legal guardian to decide where or how he will live when he leaves the hospital
Three things still to do:
  1. Go shopping with my daughter, when the workmen have left. We need to buy something to put on the kitchen floor-tiles which are looking a bit drab!
  2. Empty, wash and refill at least one of the XXL-litter boxes
  3. Congratulate SIL on his birthday which went clean out of my head when I saw him at 7am this morning! :frustrated:

Thank you bbdoll22 bbdoll22 ! We will try that this afternoon. artiemom artiemom I can get to the point where I enter my email and password. But it won't accept that I have 3 free months and keeps telling me to accept a free week trial. I already have 3 months; I don't want a week. It is frustrating. Of course, I can watch it on my iPad with no trouble. *long, drawn-out heavy sigh*

C catapault When will you get the results of your test? Thinking good thoughts for you.
  • Breakfast for the girls, emptied the dishwasher, and am sitting back here with Molli on the cat tree and coffee in hand. My coffee seems particularly good this morning.
  • The dough for English muffins is proofing in the oven.
  • I'm making a big pot of pasta sauce this afternoon.
  • Awaiting my copy of Diablo Mesa today. It's the new Nora Kelly novel by Preston/Child. Seems like I've had it preordered forever.

It is COLD this morning. The cow cat curled up in my lap, purring, is very welcome. As is the fire burning away in the stove.

Winchester Winchester Results never come directly to the body involved. They'll go to my doctor who will then let me know.

Today I will

1) go to used book store to drop off another box of books.

As an aside - I have a few cat themed books I have pulled out of the box. Do you think anyone would want them? Free, but reimburse for postage, and I would want them to all go to one place. One is Tribe of the Tiger, another is Beverly Nichol's Cats A to Z. If interested, send me a message in Conversations.

2) Main "thing" is go to the orthotics place and hope this tweak is the last that's needed.

and

3) stop as Shoprite as I pass by on the way home.

Now to disposes cat in lap, make sandwich for Himself (he will feed cats in my absence), scoop litter pan, and - if laundry is done - toss in dryer. Bye for now.

Get a cat, they said. It'll lower your blood pressure, they said. Amber started screaming at 4:00 this morning. Rick got up at 5:30 to give them their breakfast. At 6:00, Mollipop decided she wanted in the bedroom and started yelling. Get out of bed, open door, Molli comes into the bedroom. Shut door, go back to bed. At 7:00, Muffin decides she wants in the bedroom. Thud, thud, Meow! Get out of bed, open door, Muffin comes into the bedroom. At 7:05, Muffin and Molli get into an argument. Yell at cats to STOP! At 7:30, Muffin decides she wants out of bedroom. Thud, thud, Meow! Get out of bed, let Muffin out of bedroom. At 8:00, the cats decide it's time for their after-breakfast breakfast. Get a cat, they said. It'll lower your blood pressure, they said. HA!
  • My three things? See above!
  • I'm going to finish my coffee, scoop the boxes, and head out to the WeShed with Diablo Mesa. Don't call me, don't text me, leave me alone. I'll come back in the house when I've finished.

Rick tried AirShare last night. It worked fine on his Photos, but he doesn't have the password to my new iPad, so he couldn't try it. Will try it out this morning.
  • Breakfast for the girls and am sitting back here with my coffee. Rick, Molli, and Muffin are crashed in the bedroom.
  • First of two loads of laundry is in the washer.
  • Back out to the WeShed this afternoon.

Winchester Winchester I signed up for an online Apple Class. It is just :getting started on you Mac". They do offer them for iPads, iPhones, etc....
It is from a Cambridge store. I do not know how many participants, but I have to download an app for it.

I wanted something at a sooner date, but they are all filled up until Feb 28----unless I want a class at 7 pm---no thank you..

The online classes are offered, in place of in-person learning at the store... due to Covid.
~~~
*** Ugh--- around 4 AM, I could hear and feel Geoffrey beginning his vomit stance. He was cuddling with me. I had to really shoo him off the bed. I did not feel like washing my new bedspread...
** Threw the trash out
* played with Geoffrey
* Breakfast..
* Fast morning stuff
* an appointment this morning, in Boston--they are back to in person appointments.. not Zoom
* Perhaps a Starbucks Iced Coffee!!! It is warm today..
*** have a newspaper meeting this afternoon.
That is enough for now......
Today I need to
1) pack up and ship two birthday presents to two s-i-l Don't be confused. One in son in law, other is sister in law. Both are, however, getting the same thing, two different boxes of coffee beans. I need to
1A) wrap the boxes of coffee
and
1B) reconfigure a cardboard box into two, to create two shipping cartons.
My father was very good at that sort of thing. And I am my father's daughter. Then
1C) trundle off to post office and mail.
2) Unload dishwasher. That's minor, by comparison.
3) Treat a few aspidistra for tiny white non-moving insect? pests. Think I will try insectidal soap on an old washcloth, hand wipe. Cast iron plants are well named.
4) Unpack, dust, and sort the last two cartons of books from the great room. Very pleased with how things look with actually only partly filled / partly empty bookcase shelves. Then I'll be ready for the "do it again" for stairwell bookcases.
artiemom artiemom I did PM you, too. This morning, I got AppleTv to work. I created an icloud address with a new password on my new iPad. Then opened up AppleTV on the tv in the living room. Used the new ID and password.
We just finished watching Greyhound on the TV. Much better than the iPad!
Thanks, everybody for your help! It works now.
So glad it worked! I guess the trick: iCloud address. I just used my Comcast.
How was Greyhound? I want to watch that and: News of the World.
Finished first season of Ted Lasso. The second one is a bit disappointing, so far.
if I can afford it, I may keep it. But seriously, how much tv can I watch??
artiemom artiemom Greyhound was simply excellent. We liked it the first time around, other than watching it on the iPad. Rick wants to see Ted Lasso and may start it this afternoon. Raining today, so it's a good day. And I know what you mean about how much tv. Rick will finish Virgin River, then I'll kill Netflix for a while. I don't think we'll miss it.
Winchester Winchester Yeah, I know. I am letting STARZ go. The only program I watch is Outlander. I can pick that up, when it is free, hopefully; it is it not limited to only a free first season.
Netflix is good in the Winter. I do watch Virgin River... but honestly... for the money, If I drop it and pick up Apple TV, It may save me some money.. I can always pick it up, later in the year...
Apple TV has some really good things on it. Good movies. They have a lot of vert good actors in contract with them.
I do watch PBS a lot. I record a lot of their Masterpiece programs and such. I like a well written English Mystery/Story.. Just in my blood.
I do find the English Series to have more depth of characters, and are really well written and photographed. I sound like a snob!
I am kind of tired of the programs on network TV. All the reality shows.. Give me a good cooking show, any day!
~~~~~~~
So far today, accomplished:
*Cleaning Geoffrey's mess
*Trash room, twice
*Regular morning stuff
*good brushing of Geoffrey
*Doctors appointment in Boston
*Grocery store for perishables~~fruit
*Got my Massachusetts Car inspection Sticker
*Dunkin for a Cold Brew---it is 60 degrees outside... windows, fully open. It is hot in here.

To be done:
* Building Writing/Newspaper meeting in a few minutes
* have to help my friend get Peacock on her TV.. I tried last night, but could not..

Big problem is: She has Verizon internet and Comcast Cable.. UGH... I need to convince her to get Comcast and make life easier...
She does not even use the Verizon Internet service she is paying for. Instead, she is using the free WiFi from the building--so slow..
She is also NOT closing any and all windows, which she has opened, in the past... OMG...
And she is browsing with Explorer!!

Her iPhone is missing an icon for Web browsing... No Safari, no Google icon... nothing..

I just cannot.... it is too complicated for me.. She does not understand..

I should not comment. She is a very dear, good friend of mine, and elderly... but, she should just ditch the computer, and iPhone, get
an iPad, and one of those, Cellular One or Cricket Senior Phones..

Just my opinion...

Gotta go to the Newspaper/writing meeting....
