Boy, the wind is howling this morning! We had about an inch of snow yesterday, just enough to make it a bit slippery. The big thing for us today will be the wind.
  • Breakfast for the girls, running the dishwasher, sitting back here with my coffee
  • My iPad should be here today. You know, yes, I'm excited about it, but I really wish my old iPad would still be OK. I really liked that one. It's frustrating. I don't know why I had such trouble with the charging port. I don't do anything different than Rick does and our iPads were purchased at the same time. His is fine.
  • Since there are no football games on today, Rick and I will be having a movie night. I'm making hot crab dip with vegetables and homemade pita chips as our supper, along with a plate of bologna and cheeses. We can nosh while watching a movie or two.

*Woke up to 3 inches of snow.. very windy.. Now, I cannot see the surfline.. and It is difficult to see the snow on the sand... No flooding, splashier of the ocean wall.. Thank Goodness...

The wind is really kicking up.. I can see a flag, constantly blowing....adn the pole bending... It is non stop and the wind is really picking up...

One TV Station is right in front of my building.. saw it on TV... According to him, tons of drifts.. One was about a foot with icy.... Yuck!!

I am going to finish up quickly on-line.. and keep laptop and phone on charge
Do quick morning stuff in here
I have something to cook, IF we have power..
Probably walk around building, and check things out...

  1. Normal household chores
  2. Bought 2 sheets of foam for insulation and had a plank of wood cut to size for the kitchen. (Where else?)
  3. Started to sort out two (overfilled) files of product instructions, receipts and guarantees. Thrown a lot of stuff out - the oldest receipt was for a washing machine bought in 1977 but scrapped in 1998! I used to keep such information just to be able to see how prices have changed. I can't be bothered now.
The weather here has been dull and wet forever. I am almost jealous of your snow and storms!

Did my usual 2+ mile walk at 7:30 a.m. in the 29°F temp, but it’s sunny and I was dressed for it. Lots of turkeys this morning. There were two at one point, a male who was trying his best to impress and a female who was totally ignoring him. It was pretty funny. He was all puffed up, tail feathers and wing feathers all spread wide, strutting around her in circles. She was pecking at the ground or staring off down the road. “Buzz off, turkey.” :lol:

The walk was followed by our Saturday ritual: cinnamon French toast.

I already cleaned litter boxes, so it’s laundry and a bit of vacuuming, followed by reading and kitty snuggles.

One other turkey anecdote from this morning, I glanced out of the window while I was making the French toast and saw eight turkeys drinking from the little stream that feeds the lake. Two mallards got out of the water and started up the grass toward them (it’s their regular route). The turkeys gathered and started walking toward the ducks. The ducks kept going but looked a little nervous. The turkeys spread their tail feathers, puffed up their body feathers, and picked up speed. The ducks stopped. The turkeys kept coming. Faster. The ducks turned around and began to run with the turkeys right on their tails. The ducks decided that discretion was the better part of valor and took wing. The turkeys slowed down, shook their feathers back into place, smirked a turkey smirk, and strutted off down the grass. Wish I’d been able to get a video of it!

Tobermory Tobermory Awesome stories!
artiemom artiemom You OK from the blizzard?

We enjoyed our movie night last night. Got caught up on some James Bond movies and watched Alex Cross; I had never seen that movie and I'm a big Cross fan with the books.

I got my iPad Air, but the case and screen protector are coming on Monday. Got the iPad working and in order and then put it away until the case and protector get here.
  • Changed bed sheets, working on the second of three loads of laundry (I lost a pair of blue sweat pants. I can't find them anywhere)
  • Just got the beef in the crock pot for pot roast for tonight. Still need to make the rice pudding.
  • Must scoop boxes

Winchester Winchester Yes, survived, just fine. We got the 24 inches, which was, strangely, accurately predicted.

I will post some pictures. Are you ok??

Just got in from paying some kids to shovel out my car. Worth it. The snow was up over the trunk and halfway up the sides of the Accord. Very weirdly; due to the wind gusts: the windshield, windows, back were fine!! No snow on roof of car— barely any on hood. Weird.

Kind of upset! The guy parked next to me, is adamantly refusing to have them clean out his parking spot!! The spots are not designated, so free for all.

I tried talking him into having them do it—- finally got mad at his excuses, and said: “Oh, you just do not want to part with your money— and you will take my CLEAN spo, when I leave. He agreed !!!! What an attitude.

I tell you, there are a ton of people in here I really dislike.

*. Woke up to more vomiting
* took care of that and box
* gave G some Pepcid
*played with G
* Our breakfast
* fight with laptop. I think the “Finder” is corrupted. Time for new laptop. Ugh.
* phone call from cousin
* Quick shower
* Went out to see if kids were around to shovel out my car. I was talking to the maintenance guy in here. He said he would have done my car with the snowblower. He actually gave me his telephone number!!!! Hooray!!!
He gives it out to only a select few!!! I am honored!!!

* now, having a peppermint mocha k cup and protein bar
* have to finish rest of morning stuff
* decide on either sending all of my laundry out tomorrow, or doing a load today. Think of sending it all out.
* Recipe from yesterday needs to be trashed. Horrible, did not agree with me. No way to salvage any of it. The gravy was pretty good. Only part.
*took a container of sauce with sausage out of freezer for supper. Either today or tomorrow

The sun actually shone today and I had to fill the bird-feeder 3 times! I hope the birds don't decide to start nest building - although it hasn't snowed yet, we can still have snow at Easter and any fledglings will die.

Looked at my rather old cat trees and started to work out how many and what sizes (lengths, screw sizes and diameters) of replacement scratching posts are needed to make them look more presentable. Decided it would probably be better to buy completely new furniture. Scrutinised local e-bay advertisements and found a lovely sturdy, almost new, cat tower. One telephone call and I now own the tower plus a second XXL- cat litter box. The previous owners had recently lost their second BSH (heart failure) and had decided they were too old to have another cat and were glad to get the items out of their sight. They even delivered them and brought them inside my house.

Although there is space for all 4 cats to sleep comfortably in or on the tower, Woolly Bear has decided it's hers! Now I have to dismantle the cat trees and take them to the waste-disposal centre - but not today.

No: 3? Took a picture of Woolly Bear guarding her house. It's already dark outside so the lighting is very poor.

Neat gilmargl gilmargl ! Woolly Bear thinks so, too!

artiemom artiemom Wow, those are some pictures! Your neighbor is an ass. That's one thing I always hated about living in town. People wouldn't shovel themselves out, but would take others' parking spaces whenever they could. We're fine...all we had was the wind. We had about an inch of snow on Friday, which wasn't related to the storm coming up the coast. The wind was horrible over the weekend.

We had entertainment last night while eating our dinner. I happened to look out the door and there were four deer in our neighbor's front yard (beyond our back yard). They were munching on some bare spots in the yard, no cares at all. We watched them for a good 15 minutes or so before they walked over to behind our blue spruce trees along our boundary. And they bedded down! We shut our drapes at the French door and the window over the kitchen sink and left them in peace. Beautiful.
  • Breakfast for the girls, emptied the dishwasher, grabbed a quick shower, and am sitting back here with my coffee. Mollipop went back to bed with Dear Richard.
  • Two loads of laundry this morning. I changed the sheets on the bed yesterday and then got our heavy comforter out for the bed. I need to wash the light comforter to put it away. And then do a load of kitty stuff.
  • Vacuum, swiffer, etc.

Today has come and almost gone!
3 things?
  1. Went to work!
    On Mondays I actually work for 5 hours at the local GP's surgery, where my daughter is employed, even though I retired from my own job 12 years ago. I just do computer work - scanning documents from hospitals and specialists and other patient-information and storing them in the patient's file on the computer. It all started when I offered to help out without pay just to speed up digitalisation. But the managers insisted on paying me. Then came Covid-19 and all the documents signed by patients have to be scanned and stored. I wonder when I'll be superfluous? I can't look forward to a retirement date as I'm well over 65! :lol:
    It's quite a boring job which is why none of the staff want to do it - but I enjoy my once a week job.

  2. I washed the kitchen floor - on my hands and knees! The dust from drilling holes in the walls had got into the spaces between the ceramic tiles and I wanted to make sure the tiles were not damaged. These are all that will remain from my old kitchen.

  3. Put the second XXL-litterbox in its place. None of the 4 cats has used it yet - perhaps it smells of its previous owner.
Tomorrow:
  • Will be visited by someone from the kitchen company to check the positioning of plugs, sockets and water inlets and outlets
  • Trip to hardware store to buy a piece of wood to cover the box housing the outside window blinds
  • Start (preparing) to paint the kitchen ceiling
  • Dusting - the rest of the house!

Your kitchen work sounds exciting. Having a beautiful new kitchen is well worth the pain of getting there. A few weeks back I also washed my floor on my hands and knees. Hard work. It’s oh my, there was cleaning that really needed to be done on the lower part of cabinets and near the toe kicks that wasn’t visible when I did my usual mopping. Rather horrifying so I think I need to do it at least every couple months.

I keep asking Rick to steam-clean the kitchen and bathroom floors. I used to be able to wash them on my hands and knees....no longer. Now when I get down, I have to consider how I'm getting back up. And it's very painful for my knees being on the floor.

gilmargl gilmargl When we did our kitchen, we were told that electrical sockets had to be every 4 feet along the walls. They consider that we use a lot of receptacles in the kitchen. Ours are every 4 feet and I will say that they come in handy that way. The only thing I wish I had done differently was adding a pot faucet at our stove. Since I have yet to find a back splash that I really like, there's still time to do it. If I ever find a back splash, we'll add the faucet at that time. I really would like to have one.
  • Yesterday, Rick and I were talking about baking. I mentioned a honey bun cake and he jumped right on that. I'm making a honey bun cake this morning.
  • Trash night tonight. Must clean the refrigerator out. There's not a lot in there.
  • Going out to the WeShed this afternoon.

The painter was here yesterday, to start on painting the great room. That means that everything from that room, furniture especially, is now in the dining room. With cartons, multiple cartons, of books in a corner of the hall. Small ornamental objects are scattered around both upstairs and down. There's ram board paper on the great room floor, a very tall ladder, three levels of scaffolding - the ceiling is about 18 or 19 feet above the floor in places. Yesterday was repairs and spackling, continuing today. Ceiling is while, trim will stay white, not changing the color of the walls which is an off white / pale beige. Quality paint, BTW, has also gone up significantly in price.

Needless to say, the cats were terrified in the morning, less so in afternoon, just fine after the painter left for the day.

It's bitter cold. Only 3.0 degrees Fahrenheit overnight but warming nicely as the morning progresses. Already up to 18 degrees.

So I'm not sure what I'll be doing today besides staying out of the way.

Winchester Winchester I do have a huge stock pot that gets filled pitcher after pitcher of water. To empty it is very easy - there's a faucet with a screen, inside at the bottom of the pot.

I have thought about having a pot faucet at the stove and decided it is not a good idea. You'll still have a pot of hot water from pasta, say, to carry across the kitchen to empty into the sink. So what's the big deal to carry a pot of cold water across the room?

C catapault My work triangle is close together (my kitchen is small), so it really doesn't kill me to move a full canner of water around....at least not for now anyway. It is very heavy. The sink is large enough that I can put the entire canner into the sink to fill it. But it can be a bit of a hassle then trying to get it out of the sink to the stove. Rick is worried about the possibility of the pipe leaking in the wall. You'll enjoy a freshly painted room. Are they doing the great room or all of the rooms?

Rick wanted a honey bun cake. Problem is I had used half of an 8-ounce container of sour cream in a dip on Saturday. Yesterday, I made half of the cake in an 8-inch pan. Worked out well and he was happy. He loves that cake and I don't make it often because it is incredibly sweet.
  • Breakfast for the girls, emptied the dishwasher, grabbed a shower, and am back here with my coffee. I got some Redken Graydiant shampoo and conditioner to try. Wow, it really whitened the whites! And I really like the conditioner. I switch between a shampoo/conditioner for grey/white hair and a regular shampoo/conditioner. I had been using Clairol Shimmer Lights, but like the Graydiant more. (My hair has gotten healthier since I stopped coloring. I seldom blow dry any more either, maybe four times in the last two years. Instead of blowing out the waves, I just let them do their thing. I can feel the difference and my stylist has really noticed a change. I need a trim desperately.)
  • Subscribe to Apple TV. I got 3 months free with my iPad purchase and there are a couple movies that Rick and I would like to watch. We'll watch them on Friday afternoon when it's supposed to snow.
  • I like to get down into the basement to clean a bit. If Rick takes the recycling down to the center, I could do a bit of a vacuum down there.

So far;

Regular morning stuff
Found another case of food for Geoffrey!! Hooray!!
Found dried vomit under the bed— probably from yesterday. I thought I heard him. But could not find anything
Had to move my sleigh bed—- ugh — heavy.
Washed litter box— new litter
Picked up a couple of packages from downstairs.

Geoffrey was adamant about waking me up this morning;
Ran out of food, and he was disgusted by the condition of his litter box!! He let me have it— good! Man, demanding the entire time I was on the pot! Omgosh, you would have thought I never cleaned it or scooped!!

I washed it, with new litter. 2 weeks ago! I scoop twice a day! Boy, was he angry! Walking in and out of my legs, yelling and sniffing the box. And nodding to it as he walked and yelled!!

Also have a computer class to go to, at 5pm. Not a good time for me— but.

Forgot to pick up mail and write out a couple of bills.

Warm but cloudy day— have windows open a crack. Air smells good.

Rain, sleet some snow tomorrow, then frigid weather for the weekend. Then it is supposed to me ‘seasonal’ temp. We will see.

Since Geoffrey had so little this morning, I gave him a Pepcid. He is refusing his canned food. Seriously, with the shortage, we cannot waste any of it—- while I stay have it.

I brushed him a bit. Antsy. Will give him some laxatone later— when his tummy settles down a bit.

He is shedding a ton. Thinking an early spring. Birds are out.

Three things done - or attempted - today:
  1. Fed the ferals twice. I only caught sight of one cat (Teddy). Unfortunately, the supermarket on whose ground the cats hang out, has been taken over by another company, which has erected a huge heated tent and placed large containers on the car park, blocking the entrance into the thicket where the cats' houses have been built. It is no longer the quiet, hidden area, protected by trees and brambles and the cats are seldom to be seen. I believe they have found a quieter place to sleep but they are still feeding at the old site. My daughter and I picked up quite a lot of litter that has collected close to their houses but it was nothing compared with what we left behind.
  2. A visit to a second and third hardware store but no luck in finding a suitable board (9 mm thick) to cover the space housing the window blinds. We'll no doubt have to use the old cover.
  3. Took another car load of building rubbish to the waste disposal centre and dropped off a bag of clothes and shoes for recycling.
We are still laughing with my son-in-law who had made a new hole in the kitchen wall for the extractor fan. He then filled in and replastered over all old, superfluous holes. The engineer from the kitchen company was most impressed by the accuracy and cleanliness of his work - but where was the outlet for the extractor fan? Normally, my son-in-law makes no mistakes but this time he can't blame anyone else for filling in THAT hole. My daughter even watched him do it! So we can't paint the ceiling until more dust has been generated and cleaned up again!
Two weeks today and the kitchen should be finished!

gilmargl gilmargl When we did our kitchen, we were told that electrical sockets had to be every 4 feet along the walls. They consider that we use a lot of receptacles in the kitchen. Ours are every 4 feet and I will say that they come in handy that way
My kitchen is very small. I think there will be 8 individual electrical sockets (which is more than before) but only 5 of them for appliances used on the working surface on either side of the kitchen sink and draining board. I don't use many electrical gadgets: in daily use coffee machine, toaster and electric kettle and, less frequently the mixer, sandwich toaster, and slow cooker, I don't think I#ll be doing a lot of cooking in my old age! :lol:

We're getting an intense visit from Winter Storm Landon so I 've scooped and taken some rubbish to receptacle.

Nicole shopped for me yesterday so I have enough.food. Lots of Haagen-Dazs and fruit. Marie Callender frozen meals.
peanut butter, restaurant sized potatoes,yum.

Made an online delivery order from Walmart to be delivered on Sunday. Ordered stuff from Amazon that is cheaper than Walmart
