Winchester Winchester Wow, that is really a bad story.. My dad had one aide who, because my dad could not maneuver into the tub for a shower... (small bathroom--had knee issues).. The aide, instead of giving him a sponge bath, while he was sitting on the toilet; would take a bucket of water, and just pour it over him... wiping the floor after... Incredible...

Another one, began really good, then... well, lets just say she did not show up, many times.. never called in to the job for time out.. just not showed up.. I had to snitch on her.. She also arrived dressed to kill!! In high heels, a nice dress, make-up and jewelry....

I used to sometimes take time off from work, pretend I was not home, and spy on them.. They were shocked when I did that; but I wanted to see what was going on.. Thank God, my dad never lost his faculties..

We had one who was an angel in disguise.. an elderly woman who just wanted to help.. She was from Italy, and so good. She was in demand, and picked her own clients!! We had to be interviewed by her, in order to get her...

Then, my dad was placed on a different program, and we lost Felicia--more intensive home care.. But the one we had was not all that great, but she did her job.. and when my dad needed hospice care, she thought I was ignoring the need.

I was home one day, waiting for the hospice nurse.. when I saw her for one of the last times.. She wanted to talk to me in my bedroom. She wanted to give me a piece of her mind because she felt that my dad really needed hospice and I was ignoring it.. I wasn't.. I was in the process of arranging it... This was at Christmas time..they were busy and short staffed, no openings in the hospice house..

When I told her that I was home because hospice was enrolling him that afternoon, She cried.. She hugged me, and we cried.. She told me how much my dad loved me.. all the stories he told about me.. From my dad's point of view, how he appreciated me and loved me..
We had a long cry in my bedroom.. just hugging...

When my dad passed, on Jan 3... This aide along with his home nurse (not from hospice) both came to his wake and funeral.. I hugged onto her for the longest time, in church.. The soloist had to do 3 encores of How Great Thou Art.....

Mia6 Mia6 I do not mean to get you upset.. I will not mention it again.. I apologize.. I only want you to get the best care available.. and for you to be happy in your own home.. That is why I suggested that your sister, Nicole, get more involved... It could help..

From now on I promise not to mention your situation again.. please keep on posting.. I do love you....
And support you... I wish I could talk to Jon for you... but I cannot.. sigh...:redheartpump::redheartpump::redheartpump::redheartpump::hugs:

ha!!!!!
Kaylee will straighten up. Two of her clients have put their services on hold, according to what Jon told her
but that could also mean they don't want her back. If she doesn't do better and I am giving her 6 weeks, I will
tell Jon I want someone else. Kaylee has never called off but once. and that is highly unusual So we'll see..
One of Rick's mother's aides was pretty much a saint. She was Mennonite and that woman really worked. She went for groceries and packed everything away, she cooked, she cleaned, she helped to bathe them, she helped take care of The Beast.
Awwww.....I miss her

The above was written yesterday.

Oh Sweetie,

You did not upset me one bit!!! Sometimes high pain levels are upon me in an instant and I have to
lay down immediately and don't have time for an explanation. That is what happened yesterday,
It's all good.

Below is a pic of Grayson and Alliyah
She is the.newest member of our family. She'll be 1 in February and skipped the crawling stage. Nicole
found her attempting to get into the bathtub on Christmas night, ha!! Although David is not her bio Dad
he and her mom stared dating when mom was 9 months pregnant. She was named after the singer who
died in a plane crash.

Like Cindy, I am concerned for you. My post was simply to say that it's not easy finding somebody who's willing to do the work. Nonetheless, they are out there and, if Kaylee doesn't work out, I hope you'll find somebody who does. It's difficult. And that's all I will say.
My turn to get up with the girls this morning. Amber carried on pretty much all night last night, so a good sleep didn't happen. I got up at 6:00 and fed them; now she's sleeping. I should go out to the living room and meow in her face, the little snot. But it wouldn't work as she's pretty much deaf and wouldn't hear me anyway. She's just lucky she's cute.

I have Evelyn's Kindle set up and we'll take it to her today at some point. I'll gather some cookies for her, too. I did make the white chip and macadamia cookies yesterday, so she has those as well. She had the first of the two Covid vaccines yesterday; we'll have to see how she is today. She had asked me to adjust the font size on her Kindle. I can't; it's at the largest size now. I'm going to check into noise-canceling headphones so she can listen to books. I'll still be able to get library audiobooks for her, but the selection isn't quite as good. But she's like me; she'll pretty much read anything she can get her hands on. Twenty-three residents died from Covid at the nursing home. She was lucky.
  • Breakfast for the girls, emptied the dishwasher, and am enjoying my coffee.
  • When I took the recycling to the basement, I got into the freezer and brought up our pork for our New Year pork and sauerkraut on Friday. It's in the fridge now.
  • Just some general clean-up today. Nothing major. Haven't been out to the shed in two days; I need to go out and check on the plants.
ETA: I went back down to the freezer for the chicken wings. I can't believe tomorrow is New Year's Eve!

It's really easy Mia6 Mia6 ! I make my own bread, but you can also buy a round loaf of your favorite bread at your store. Slice the bread horizontally, slather with mayo and mustard, or whatever spread you want. And layer thickly with lettuce, tomatoes, meats, and cheeses. Wrap in foil and heat at 425F until the cheese is melting. This is simply delicious! It's been a New Year's Eve staple in our house for years. The kids make it, too; they just buy a loaf of round bread and take it from there. It's very filling!

Batter Bread Sandwich - also posted here: Recipes - Sandwiches

1 pkg. active dry yeast
1-1/4 cups warm water (105 - 115 degrees)
2 Tbsp. shortening
2 Tbsp. sugar
2 tsp. salt
2-2/3 cups flour
1 unbeaten egg white mixed with 2 Tbsp. water
1 Tbsp. oregano
1/2 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. pepper
Mayonnaise, mustard, etc.
Lettuce
Sliced tomatoes
Salami
Provolone cheese
Your choice of deli meats
Your choice of veggies, sliced thin

In large mixer bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Add shortening, sugar, salt, and 2 cups of the flour. Blend ½ minutes on low speed, scraping bowl constantly. Beat 2 minutes on medium speed, scraping bowl. Stir in remaining flour until smooth. Scrape batter from side of bowl. Cover and let rise in warm place until double, about 30 minutes. Stir down batter by beating about 25 strokes. Spread evenly in round or square greased 9-inch pan. Smooth top of batter with floured hands. Brush egg white-water mixture over top of bread. Sprinkle with oregano, the salt, and pepper. Cover and let rise until double, about 40 minutes.

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Bake 45 minutes or until loaf sounds hollow when tapped. Brush top with melted butter. Remove loaf from pan and cool on rack.

When bread is completely cool, split horizontally with bread knife. Spread both halves with mayonnaise, mustard, whatever spread you wish to use. Fill with lettuce, meats, cheese, sliced veggies, etc. Wrap bread in foil. Reheat for 30 minutes at 425 degrees.

What I do: I also sprinkle toasted minced onion (from Penzey’s, sprinkled liberally) onto the top of the bread, along with the oregano and I use cracked black pepper...usually about 3/4 teaspoon or more. I don’t sprinkle any salt over the top. Sometimes, depending on our mood, we don’t bother to wrap the bread in foil and heat it. We’ll have it cold. Leftovers are always wonderful.

I use instant yeast, so as long as the water is warm, not hot or anything, I don't bother to check the temperature. With instant yeast, I don't think you have to be as exact. Usually instant yeast is mixed right in the with the dry ingredients. I don't do that, though. I add the yeast to the warm water anyway, then add the rest of the ingredients as I go

I literally laughed out loud when I read this! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve said the same thing after a long night of being constantly awakened by a furball wanting attention. [Cat peacefully sleeping on the sofa. Vengeful hooman creeps up, sits down, and begins to scritch kitty and croon, “Is the ittum bittum kitty trying to sleep? Is the hooman bothering her? Aww. So sorry.” :redtongue:]

It’s The Big Grind today. I bought about 20 lbs. of chicken, turkey, and pork yesterday, and this afternoon I’ll haul out the grinder, grind it all up, portion it out in three-pound amounts, and freeze it. Three pounds plus added supplements makes about five days worth of food for three cats.

The spouse wants me to make a batch of croutons for the salads he eats every evening. It will have to be this morning because I’ll be too tired after The Big Grind.

It’s supposed to rain this afternoon so I took my walk this morning at about 7:30–2 1/2 miles. Now I’m sitting here with my post-walk coffee. ☕

Tomorrow is trash day and the night before trash day is always my most productive time of the week. I worked from home, as usual, picked up a grocery order this morning, then after work, I shoveled the driveway, cleaned the cat boxes, showered, baked banana bread and pumpkin bread, took the trash and recycling to the curb, did the dishes, and now I need to finish putting together this busy board I'm making for my friend's son. It was supposed to be a birthday gift, but I didn't finish it in time, then school got in the way and I haven't been able to get around to it until now.

Winchester Winchester Oh My, your bread sounds amazing! I will ask Nicole to make it sometime.

regular stuff

a new longhaired, torti/tabby mix has started coming around. I think she is the mother of Daniella and Julian.
They all 3 cuddle on the wicker chair together. The first time I saw her I cried out, "The Vincie Girl!!" Other than
her coloring, she looks identical to her in the face!!! My girl was the daughter of Speedy, a black feral, and her
father was Butch, a stray tabby with a mane and a long tail. She won't let me near her but stares at me when I go
to the deck. I know in my heart she is a decedent of my girl.💞 The only member of my ginger gang who comes
around is Chrissie. He's so big!..all filled out and so long, but has maintained his feral quality.

Pay day is early because of holiday. Make a list for Kaylee.

Yesterday was weird.
*abbreviated breakfast, shower
*up and out to butcher, Rite Aid for something I forgot, then Starbucks for my last Peppermint Mocha and a cheese danish.
I have been so hungry the past couple of days.. I am eating so much.. Not good.
*Down to pick up mail
* phone calls
*abbreviated morning stuff

I am worried about Geoffrey. He has been sneezing so ferociously. It started slowly about 6 weeks ago.
At that time, I began a couple of things I have not done before; Using the heat option of my AC/heater, and using Microban antibacterial spray.
He had a Vet appointment a few weeks ago. All clear... good report
I discovered the AC/Heat unit had black gunk coming out of it. I found these pieces on the rug. I could not get them all, as Geoffrey is into everything. he could have actually sniffed up a piece of this crap..

But, I do spray the Microban in my clothes hamper, and on my bed.

The air is also very dry in here.

He has been acting fine.. playing, eating, being annoying.. does not feel feverish.. Not playing s much today.
Sneezing was very bad the other night and yesterday. Put a call into his regular vet.
Funny thing, It was it was hot in here last night..
I could not sleep.. Geoffrey was sneezing all over me.. Then I got up, and I started sneezing!! and stuffing up... OMG>.. two of us!!

So afraid.. I also left a message, in the middle of the night, with the Specialist Vet, just in case Geoffrey may need to see him.. dam..
Holiday time, Covid pandemic... worried..

Mia6 Mia6 AWWwwwww... a descendant of Vincie Girl.... OMG that is so sweet...She will always be with you...They know, you are their "person"... word gets around in the cat world. ((((Hugs)))))

Tobermory Tobermory I laughed at your post because we must be two of a kind!
Mia6 Mia6 How wonderful for you to have one of your Vincie Girl's great-grandkids! Awesome!
artiemom artiemom Don't spray the Microban on your bed. If Geoffrey is spending a lot of time on your bed and he does sleep with you, he's breathing that stuff in. Plus, it's on his body and he bathes. We're not sure and we certainly can't prove it, but we were using Microban, too. And that's when the cats came down with that "stuff" on their noses and were snotting around. We took them to the vet and the vet didn't know what it was. Gave them antibiotic shots and it did go away. But I also stopped using Microban. Like I said, we don't know if that's what did it. But I'm not taking any chances. With the pandemic, we've all gotten a little weird about spraying things around the house; I know I have. But we need to take into consideration that we have cats and they're a lot smaller than we are. It's just a thought. Stop it and see what happens?

Today will be spent doing absolutely nothing really. A good end to a crappy year.
  • Rick got up with the girls and Molli and I slept in until Muffin got us awake at 8:00. She wanted her snack. I got up, gave everybody a snack and made my coffee. Now she's out in the living on the stairs, yelling for a walk. It's raining. I keep telling her that it's raining. "I DON'T CARE! WALK! WALK!" I have created a monster. I don't know when she got so vocal. Honestly, she was always a pretty quiet cat and, when she was with my Mom, we never heard a meow out of her. With us? She's turned into quite the talker over the last few years. Must take the Muffin-ator out for a walk. In the rain. Back in a few minutes.
  • And.....we're back. It's not raining right now, thank goodness. She hit her stroller and is napping away. So anyway, I have to make the loaf of bread for the Big Sandwich this morning. Get the rub on the wings for 4 hours or so. Make a couple pitchers of iced tea. And I have to figure out how to make baked brie. I found an awesome recipe for rolling out the phyllo and sprinkling caramelized onions on top of the dough. Then placing the brie on top of that, more onions on top of the brie. Wrap it, then bake the thing. It sounds great. We'll see. We also have some hummus, but may wait until tomorrow night for that.
  • Hit the she shed tonight for some movies while (hopefully!) enjoying our brie. The Muffin-ator will be out there with us for a while anyway.
Happy New Year's Eve, guys!

artiemom artiemom If the air in your apartment is very dry have you considered getting an ultrasonic humidifier. They are cool mist, not steamy. This winter we got one for our bedroom. I turn it on when going to bed. And one for the great room whenever the wood burning stove is operating.

There are three settings for how much mist is produced. I keep it at 3 for the wood stove area, 2 for our bedroom. Turn it on until I get up or it runs out of water and shuts itself off. It could also be set for 4 or 6 hours.

I buy distilled water at Wal-Mart, only 82 cents / gallon. One gallon is not quite enough for two nights. I use distilled water because there's no black gunk buildup as happens if you use tap water.

Does mean there are many flattened plastic jugs to put out for recycle every other week! And both of our cats ignore the humidifiers while they are in operation.

From the grinding? Ha, no, it’s an electric grinder. If I had to do it by hand, the cats would still be eating canned food. :) But the whole process takes a long time from start to finish and, of course, with raw meat, I try to be super careful about handling and cleaning.

I froze all of yesterday’s grind except for three pounds of turkey that I’ll make into cat food today. I have plenty of chicken and pork made up already.

Boring stuff like laundry. And I need to trim my bangs. I look like a sheep dog, and I’m tired of pushing it out of my eyes. I already whacked the back two days ago. I asked my husband if it was even, and he paused...longer than I thought necessary...and said, “Um, yes.” Pause. “Yes, even.” :ohwell:

What else? Hmmm. I think I need to make brownies. Yep. Brownies. Chocolate.

OMG!!!! I wish I had known that before!! and before I bought 2 more cans of it!!

Geoffrey seems better today! I stripped my bed, shook out my bedspread, threw out the snowman throw, he was afraid of--it does have a smell to it..... opened the windows... Dug through closet, to find my teeny tiny little humidifier and my old shower chair to put it on. The humidity was very low last night... better today... so we will see how and if this tiny humidifier helps..

Many people in here have humidifies because the air is so dry. I did order a larger one from Amazon. It will arrive on Monday.. so... we will see. I just hate to start using one and having ti take so much space in the one area I can place it in.. free of wooden furniture and carpeting... but if it helps....

C catapault Thanks!!! WE are thinking alike.. I just hate to clean the darn thing.. Have to pick up a couple gallons of distilled water. I did not have any, so I used my Brita Filtered water in the tiny humidifier.
Hard to find a spot for it, when both the bedroom and living room are carpeted and the furniture is all new and wood... sigh...

As soon as I put my bed together, Geoffrey came out from under the bed, proceeding to go under the bedspread.... PERHAPS....the Microban???? I have the orange spray...

I cannot find any Lysol ... so I will go back to Odoban on a paper towel to wipe things down with..
I think one of my friends uses Microban. I will see if she wants the cans I have.

Just got off the he phoen with the regal Vet. We both agree that it is probably the Microban and the dry air!!
Watch him over the week end... Can try an antihistamine if it continues.. but he seems better, so far!!!
fingers crossed.

Thank you so much to all for the help, and caring...
I do love this community!!
