Some of those "aides" are real winners Mia6 Mia6 . She sounds like one of them. And dealing with young children whose parents don't pay attention isn't good either.
artiemom artiemom Maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to take Geoffrey to the vet? Just to be on the safe side and make sure it is just a hair issue. I love talking with Mother Dragon Mother Dragon ; she's an absolute hoot and we spend a lot of time laughing, too. She's a good friend. I don't talk to her nearly often enough because life around here just gets in the way sometimes.

Molli and I lounged until 9:00 this morning. It's a dreary day and there was no reason to get up.
  • When I went out to make my coffee this morning, I checked the tomatoes in the kitchen. After I'm done here, I'm going out to cook tomatoes for puree.
  • I took butter out of the fridge and threw it in the microwave to soften for putting cookie dough together. Baking snickerdoodle and either chocolate chip cookies or chocolate brownie cookies tomorrow morning. Haven't decided which yet. Rick's mom loves the chocolate brownie cookies, so I'll likely make them and we can take a few up to her. (She says she's still on sugar overload from everything in her BDay package last week! :) )
  • One load of laundry in the dryer.
Nothing really exciting.

She sounds like one of them
She called off this morning, said she was throwing up, groan

am so sorry the undisciplined 'kids' and mother were out there, until all hours.. You really have a pretty unlivable situation there...
I look forward to the cold weather because they aren't out as much. I called the police about them over a year ago.
That made it worse. After the police would leave, they'd make more noise just to vex me. That was the summer of
loud fireworks for about a month straight. This summer I just let it go. They are now displaying a Confederate flag
ever since a Black family moved to this street near their house and they make loud racist remarks.

This morning and afternoon
  1. Himself went to the health clinic for this and that. I came along but stayed in the car.
  2. Stopped at the IGA and bought this and that. Himself stayed in the car. (He'll be happy, I got the stuff so we'll have meatloaf for dinner tonight.)
  3. Stopped at the farm and feed store for a dozen eggs. He stayed in car.
  4. Got home and a box with the two ultrasonic humdifiers that were to be delivered on Oct 16 were waiting by the front door.
  5. Lunch
  6. To Wal-Mart for 4 gallons of distilled water (for humidifiers, no idea how long it takes to use up the water Reservoir capacity is .97 gallon), other bits and bobs. Wanted laxatone - Mr Poe has a hairball, I think. Only had hairball treats and the first ingredient is wheat flour. I don't think so.
  7. Stopped at Pet-Valu. No laxatone for cats, out of stock. Offered me hairball treats . . . a conspiracy? Truck coming tomorrow but not eager to repeat today's travel. Let's see if Mr Poe throws up again. Was advised against using Vaseline when I phoned the vet's office, can get laxatone from them but it would have been another trip in a different direction and silly me thought Wal-Mart or Pet-Valu was sure to have it..
  8. Now we are each having a mug of tea and one each of the last two chocolate chip cookies

Oh, Geoffrey was at both the regular Vet and as her suggestion, to out Internal Med Vet.
All his blood work, urine tests, came out negative! There was a wishy washy x-ray report, suggesting, an ileus, but it was wishy washy--never came out with a definite.
She was at a loss so suggested the specialist.

Dr B did a good exam, looked at all his lab tests, the x-ray report, the x-ray and said Geoffrey was all normal. He was kind of at a loss as to why all the hairballs. Suggested laxatone 3 times a day, and much more often brushing.. almost daily; along with switching him over to a hairball formula food.

That is what I have been doing: he is eating RC hairball food, mixed with some of his rabbit food, which he does favor. He is a bear to deal with, because he is always hiding. I definitely give him laxatone once a day--try for twice. Three times a day stresses him out too much. Brushing is a chore. He hates the stimulus of all brushes on his lower half of body. I do what I can.

Last year he was on Prozac. He is not on it this year. He does not seem overly anxious. He is an anxious cat, but acting the same as he was, when he was taking Prozac. He is always grooming. Perhaps it is a bit excessive, but.... he has no bald spots.

Dr B said that Geoffrey may just end up being a 'vomiter'.... and let it go at that. He also said that he is a really good, sweet cat; commenting: "What a nice Cat!"

He was not concerned with the x-ray. He said it was normal.. so, who really knows. He said the only real way to know was to do an exploratory.. which no one in their right mind would do, unless he was extremely sick... so, he is eating, drinking, playing, cuddling... just taking one day at a time..

Stocking up on laxatone, paper towels, and vomit cleaner... and using doggy poop bags for the 'junk'....

Feeling tired this morning. Amber started yelling at 4:30 (in a few weeks, that will be 3:30 with the time change.....yay), so I've been wide awake since then. I'm also working on a rotten headache. It will be an early night tonight, I'm thinking.
  • Breakfast for the girls, emptied the dishwasher, and am sitting back here with my coffee
  • Two loads of laundry this morning. Rick will strip the bed when he gets up, so I can wash the sheets.
  • I made snickerdoodle batter and chocolate brownie cookie batter last night to chill. I need to bake the cookies today.
....and all I really want to do is go back to bed.

Winchester Winchester Amber really likes to be the one to start the day, ha!!
@How is dear Geoffrey? Cal passed some hairballs in her poop, gross, but that's better than throwing them up.
I almost have to close my eyes when I'm scooping. I try to scoop right after she poops.
C catapault How was your meatloaf?

It's going to be nice and sunny today..a good day to be outside. I had a nice, long, hot bath. felt good.

Mia6 Mia6 Geoffrey is good. I gave him a good brushing yesterday, with the slicker brush. I had to hold him down, gave him one of his catnip toys to try to calm him down.. did not work.. but I managed to get a good amount of fur off of him.

We played twice yesterday; He got laxatone twice, also.

He is afraid of the curtains I put up! He is not accustomed to having anything excelt the vertical blinds on the windows. He loved to sit on the mini window seat or my desk, to look at the ocean, birds, flags flying, people walking, etc. Now with the curtains, it is a 'new' strange experience for him. So he is avoiding it.

Winchester Winchester , ouch--another migraine.. so sorry. I do not know how you manage to function while you have one.

Got up late.. really late: 8:00.. Geoffrey was not happy.
*regular morning stuff
*perhaps some furniture dusting
*some business on line
*go downstairs to pick up mail; a package from Kohl's--new micro fleece pj's that I use for lounging around during the winter. Used my 30% off for them.
*They are having an informative table set up; for a social group they are running in here. It is more or less like a life coach thing.. You are assigned one of 3 couches, and they periodically have group meetings. Now, because of Covid, they are changing things around.. doing Zoom, and such.. but to make sure you are involved in something.. They call it Vitalize 360.
They have been trying to recruit me since I moved in!! Mostly older people involved in this.

**lazy day... it is pouring rain. We really need it, so no complain. It is in the 50's to low 60's today.

Egg yolk lecithin supposedly helps with hairball issues. Have you read this? How Best to Manage Hairballs

I mix hairball gel into Emma's food. She doesn't eat treats and definitely won't eat hairball gel on it's own. I use this brand because it's chicken-free: Richard's Organics Tuna Flavor Hairball Remedy, 4.25-oz tube - Chewy.com

Another :runaround: at work today. Got home and promptly took a nap with the cats. I should go feed Leroy his snack now.
Thanks, I put the hairball gel in my cart, for my next order...

I cannot mix anything into his food, because I do not want him to have any food aversion.. although, G is not like Artie.. but..
It is ok, I pick Geoffrey up, squish him on the side of my recliner and just put the gel on the roof of his mouth.. then give him a big kiss, and praise him for being a good boy... sometimes, he fights; but, on the whole, he is ok with this..
Problem is, he is always hiding. I have to grab him when I can.

Meatloaf was very good, as always, Mia6 Mia6 Himself says it's better than his mother's meatloaf. High praise indeed! I think I could make it in an August heat wave and Himself would still be happy. It's his favorite meal.

My mother always used to say "as long as the oven is on . . . " and see what else she could shove in there. I always make baked potatoes, and a baked sweet potato for me. Bake extra white potatoes so there are some to have as stuffed baked potato.

Mixed up chocolate chip cookie batter yesterday evening (see Winchester Winchester I'm now your copycat)

Preparing the dough happened later than I intended because we spent a lot of time before dinner rearranging a good bit of the bedroom furniture. The ultrasonic humidifier is at the foot of our bed where there had been a blanket chest. But I'd rather have the humidifier on the glass topped table. Not as simple as just swapping the two pieces of furniture. Oh no. That's not how life goes.

Cookies baked this morning. Unloaded dishwasher while they were in the oven. First load of laundry washed, dried, and folded. Second load is in the dryer.

Guess I can be a lady of leisure for the rest of the day.

I did most of what I wanted.
* regular morning stuff
* brushed Geoffrey
* met a new neighbor
*Put the rest of the tenderloin in the freezer
*Got my mail
* dusted furniture. Need to redo my bedroom, it was just a quick once over in there.
*Played "Chase" with Geoffrey
* now having a cup of tea, waiting for, hopefully, one of the guys to come up here to readjust the curtain rods.. too high for me to do.. I have no strength in my hands, plus shoulder issues..

Nothing for the rest of the day! Perhaps a phone call.

Waiting for an ugly dinner: over cooked chicken breast with tons of garlic powder--yuck; mushy carrots, and a tiny overcooked baked potato... ugh.. the food here is horrible.. I am thinking I may just toss it out. I hate to waste food, but...
I do have to pay for it. It is mandatory, but so inedible.. You are lucky if, once a week, you can get something half way decent.. ugh..

I still have some tenderloin left. I can eat. I did not freeze all of it. The kitchen staff is really incompetent. I am thinking that in January, I will volunteer to be on the Food Committee, to see what is really going on.. Honestly, they get the lowest quality available.... and cook it any old way...
Complaints do not help--everyone complains.

I dearly love meatloaf served with twiced-baked potatoes...one of my fave meals.
Better than his mother's??? Yes, high praise indeed!!

artiemom artiemom I would certainly complain about the food being inedible. You're paying for rubbish!!
Winchester Winchester Oh no, another migraine. They moved the Headache Clinic out of Pain Management
because of COVID19 but it is still very accessible. Maybe you could have a consultation with them
sometime, stay the night. Nicole and Larry went to Cleveland yesterday to see foliage, eat lunch,
and walk along Lake Erie. Boy, I wanted to go soo badly. I hope this one is over quickly. :hugs:

Regular stuff

Chased the raccoon off the deck about 5 times!! He is so bold!!

Kaylee will finally mop floors today and fold clothes. I'll wash a load of darks. Someone here mentioned
Woolite for Darks and I've been using it. It really does work well. I love how it prevents fuzzies.

Little Chrissie returned on Monday after not seeing him for almost a week. I guess he's one of those
men who like to roam, sweet boy. The Ginger Gang and white cat are still here most mornings.

I got a cortisone shot in my hand on Monday for my carpal tunnel pain. My hand still hurts today (although not as bad as on Monday), so I won't be able to work on the landscaping like I wanted. I'll probably do as much homework as I possibly can instead, pick up my grocery order, and maybe do some crocheting.

artiemom artiemom How is darling Geoffrey?
Winchester Winchester I hope you'e feeling better

regular stuff

washed some smalls in Dreft, no more itching! I feel some of the stores are price gouging.
A 32 ounce bottle of Dreft was $12.00 at Giant Eagle. Walmart sells the 75 ounce bottle
for $13.00!! Since I don't use it for everything, the 75 ounces lasts months.

Kaylee will shop today, then tomorrow she'll work 3 hours instead of 2 so she'll get most
of the cleaning done, I hope.

The Ginger gang is sleeping on the wicker chair, the white cat is sleeping on the deck,
and I've seen the pesky raccoon is under the deck.

artiemom artiemom I feel so badly for you. Nobody should have to eat crappy food. I hope you do join the Food Committee, just to see what's going on. It's a waste of food.
Mia6 Mia6 Hopefully, she will show up and work her 3 hours. I hope so!

Yesterday, we went to the PA Grand Canyon and then spent quite a bit of time at Tioga-Hammond. TH has what used to be called a primitive camping area, where one either walked back or came in by boat to camp. It was a mile back into the woods. We used to walk it quite a bit when we camped there. Alas, it is no longer primitive. Evidently, somebody saw dollar signs and turned it into a regular camping area. The trail was widened to accommodate vehicles and when we got back in, there were RVs set up. Kind of a shame. And we were amazed to see how many campers were still camping. No one in tents, of course, as it's quite chilly up there at night. But quite a few RVs. We walked all over the place, took a bit of a hike up through the mountain, came back, and had some lunch. We drove over to the weir (where Hammond Lake flows into Tioga Lake), then started for home. We got back around 3:00. Rick took some pictures and I'll post them in a bit. It was a nice day, but would have been nicer had I not had the remnants of that damn headache. And I did all the driving, so til we got home, I was pooped. Not as young as I used to be!
  • Breakfast for the girls, emptied the dishwasher, and am back here with my coffee. Will scoop in a bit.
  • A couple loads of laundry.
  • Quick vacuum and swiffer....nothing big
  • SN tonight

Because I did so much yesterday (grocery shopping, litter boxes, laundry), I don't think I even have three things to do today. :yess: Just get through the day at work and then go home and relax.

Mia6 Mia6 Goeffrey is doing really well.. Yesterday he did not eat as much, kind of expecting a hairball.. but he is fine.. He was cuddling with me while I was watching TV. He is so funny. When he feels I have been on the computer long enough, he will jump on my lap!! It is a laptop comp, and a laptop cat!

He is so heavy--and silky. I went to pick him up, yesterday morning; not expecting him to be so heavy and silky, he slipped out of my arms, onto the floor. He did not bat an eye.. fell on all 4's.. The I proceeded to re-pick him up.. He did not even meow!! weird cat..

He knew it was for his laxatone! I swear, he must weigh 16 lbs.

Today:
* quick reg morning stuff.
* dentist appointment--cleaning, xrays
* have to decide what to get, food-wise for my friends husband. Today is his birthday. He has a very progressive form of dementia--he is my age! I want to get something that he will enjoy.. not sure what... either a pizza, but he may have that planned for supper, or some really good donuts, or perhaps some pretzels from the pretzel shop. Perhaps the last year he will enjoy a b-day..

* home... have a pitiful pastrami sandwich scheduled for supper.. I may just bag that and get a real cheeseburger from the 99...
* nothing else planned, except a phone call... unless something comes up. Never know around here.
** if possible, brush Geoffrey

Winchester Winchester It sounds as if you and Rick had a wonderful day! Even with the "upgrades' to the camping area. Good for you! now relax today..
