Cleaned the boxes, slipped on the deck while taking the bad to the receptacle.:flail:
Put a load of laundry in so I'll have warm sweats and leggings for the next bout of frigid temps.

Had a warm bath.

I was a mess last night. We had gone for groceries and, in the middle of shopping, my vision broke. All I could see were jagged edges of dancing colors. It was really bad. People were walking by and I couldn't see eyes or noses; they had completely disappeared. Til we were done shopping and at the check-out, my vision had cleared. But this was going to be bad.

Rick's mom had called; she was having trouble with her phone and her Nook. I told Rick that I couldn't go up, that we should let it go until tonight. But she was adamant and she wanted us there right away. We went up, I got the Nook fixed while Rick worked on her phone; the phone was nothing important. She had some texts that she wanted deleted. And the Nook was simply that she had gotten the font too small and I had to change it back. But it took forever with her phone and I finally told Rick we had to leave. She wasn't happy, but at that point, I didn't care. Til we got home, my eye was throbbing. I went to bed with a cold washcloth, but around 10:00, I got up and told Rick I thought I needed to go to the ER.

I felt like somebody was trying to gouge my eye out with a grapefruit spoon (Rick told me it was one of the more vivid descriptions of a pain level that he had heard in a while, but that's exactly what it felt like); it hurt that bad. I ended up in the bathroom a couple times, which made it that much worse. We didn't go to the ER (a $100 co-pay makes you really think about an ER visit) and I finally fell asleep around 11:00 or so. I was so tempted to take some Advil, but Rick wouldn't let me. So there I was. Mollipop was right there the entire time, bless her heart. I think she knows when I'm sick. And because the pain was in my right eye, I laid on my right side, something I don't normally do because Molli likes me to lay to my left, so she can be in the middle of the bed. But she came over to the edge of the bed and curled up with me there. She knew there was no way I could lay on my left side last night, so she agreed that it was OK.

This morning, I feel OK, just really tired. The headache is still there, but it's minor, at least for now. I'm hoping that it won't explode again into that pain. All I want to do is go home and crawl back into bed. That was horrible last night.
  • Breakfast for the kids, walked 2 miles (Rick brought me into work this morning because it's snowing like crazy, so I only got 30 minutes of walk-time in and I didn't do it on the treadmill, just walked around the house), and got ready for work
  • Will scoop boxes tonight
  • And I think I'll call it an early night tonight and go to bed

I have today off from work :yess: I originally planned to go downtown to do a few things but plans changed.

Just waiting to hear back from the vet's secretary. I should make a few other phone calls today. And I should vacuum :paperbag:

Your description of "jagged edges of dancing colors" make me think what you have is an optical migraine. No pain, just a bother and you feel somewhat disoriented. Google that, there are really good images of that. I have them every once in a while, they are harmless but a bother. They usually do not last more than half an hour but if they happen when I drive I have to pull over to the side of the ride of the road and wait for them to go away. I had them once or twice when I was still working and could not see what was on my computer screen. I had to sit and wait for them to go away. There is no known cure for them and apparently nobody knows what causes them. They are NOT in your eyes but in your brain. Usually it's an ever-widening circle or half-circle that starts quite tiny and then gets larger as it goes, the jagged lights are all around the curve of it and getting brighter. The image is in both eyes so you can't just close one eye and hope it goes away, it doesn't. I have had them for about 20 years off and on, sometimes not for many months and then again every few days. Nothing in particular brings them on. Rest assured that you are not alone in this, it is harmless, ask your optometrist about the, he/she will tell you the same thing and look at the images on the internet and google what you can find there. Your vision is not "broken".
That you have pain in your eyes and a headache is not related to optic migraine, there is something else going on there. Please do see an ophthalmologist and also mention that you have optic migraines besides the pain in your eyes and headaches. Time may be of the essence.

segelkatt segelkatt I've had them all my life, starting when I was around 10 years old. After I had my son, they went away until I hit 40. Then they came back with a vengeance. The neurologist said they are migraines and that the jagged lights are an aura to the migraine. I always get pain about 30 minutes or so afterward; the amount of pain varies, depending on how soon I can go to bed. Sometimes, the headache might last an hour; other times, it will go all day and night. Due to allergies, I can't take anything. I go to bed with a cold compress until the worst of it goes away. I went to a migraine specialist, who said that they are migraines with the aura and sensitivity to sound and light, but refused to really do anything for me because I don't have 15 or more migraines a month. In other words, they don't incapacitate me, so she didn't want to treat me.

I should add that a migraine aura will affect both eyes. The neurologist (and the migraine specialist) told me that if the jagged edges only affected one eye, then it was something else and I needed to be seen. These episodes are always in both eyes and even when my eyes are shut. So I just deal, go to bed til the worst of it is over and then go about my day. Thankfully, I might get a bad migraine only once every 2-3 months. But I am due for an eye appointment and will say something to her. Thanks for the heads-up!
  • Breakfast for the kids, walked 2.5 miles this morning, and got ready for work. Because of the snow yesterday, I told Dear Richard that he might want to take me to work; once he got the truck down the driveway, he might not be able to get it back up tonight. He said, "Oh, no, I'll be fine." Well, OK then. So I'm hanging out on the treadmill, listening to music. And Rick comes down, "Dear, go get ready for work. And hurry up, so I'm not late!" He had gone outside and the driveway is a mess. He figured he wouldn't make it back up the driveway in the truck (Men!) So I had to rush around and get ready so he could bring me into work and then take my car to his work.
  • Laundry night
  • Trash night, so Rick will clean out the boxes

My helper is not coming in today, just too cold. I called the agency yesterday and asked them to call and let her know. She lives in the country and it's best she stays put. I can make egg salad which I love. I season it with dill, beau monde and pepper then mix with mayo.

Glad you're ok. My mother had severe migraines and when I was a child there were so many days that they kept her in bed for 3 days at a time. In the 70s she began taking Cafergot Supp. and it helped a lot but it had to be taken when she first felt the onset of one or it wasn't effective.

My great-grandmother had migraines, too. My brother has them, but not as bad as me; somehow my sister escaped them. When I first started in with them, I missed a lot of my sixth grade at school because I couldn't go. The reason they passed me into seventh grade (despite missing so much school) was that I did so well on my tests and such and was able to keep up with homework. My parents took me to doctors; they ran tests on me, the whole bit. There was a drug, but I don't remember what it was anymore. As soon as I felt something, I was to take the pill, then take another one every 30 minutes for 1-1/2 hours. That was to ward off the worst of the pain. I asked Mom one time what the drug was, but she didn't remember. Anyway, after I had my son, they dissipated, but boy, I hit 40 and they came back.....this time with the aura (the jagged colorful lines). I've been to doctors and specialists and they all say the same thing. Basically because I don't get them often, I'm OK. They don't consider me incapacitated. And now, they all hesitate to prescribe meds for me because we don't know what will happen. The whole thing is frustrating. I am grateful that I don't have to deal with them all the time. I can go for months without one.....thankfully.

Anyway (sorry for digressing):
  • Breakfast for the kids, emptied the dishwasher, and got ready for work (Rick has been taking me to work because he's been driving my car....our driveway is not good, so it's just easier for us to ride together right now). He had to be to work early this morning, which meant that I had to be in early, too.
  • Must scoop boxes tonight
  • Rick is bowling, so it's Nintendo Night for me (until Supernatural comes on) I may be in my 60's, but I'm basically a kid at heart

Combed the Vincie girl. She had so many knots but she only lets me comb so much, then I get scratched. She got me 3 times, ouch, and then they itch badly.

Rick brought me in this morning. Now, with all due respect to Dear Richard, I'm pretty sure he can get out in his truck. And I'm 99% sure he can get back up the driveway in his truck; the guy came back yesterday while we were at work and plowed all the blown-in snow from the driveway. We can see stone now. So, I think it's more a matter of he likes to drive my car (the Tucson's heater works better than the truck's) than it is he can't get in and out of the driveway. But anyway, he brought me in again today and will pick me up tonight. Truthfully, I don't really mind it, but it doesn't give me a lot of time for the treadmill in the morning.
  • Breakfast for the kids, emptied the dishwasher, walked about 1.5 miles, and got ready for work
  • Must run a few errands tonight; Lowes, Target, etc.
  • Scoop the boxes and run a quick vacuum
Mia6 Mia6 Ms. Pepe is really matting up, too, and it's hard to get those mats out. She doesn't clean herself very well anymore, just a quick wash after she eats and that's only about her face and neck. We've been working on combing her out, but the mats are getting really bad. I even said to Rick about having her shaved, but we're afraid it might traumatize her. And right now, it's really most too cold to take her out. Rick's been cutting her mats out. She hates it.

today i'll wash the dishes, scoop the litter boxes, and keep the wood stove going! i'll bake some more pepperoni french bread pizzas, using baguettes that i bought at the local produce auction. i'll move some mozzarella cheese shred and a bag of pizza sauce to the fridge to thaw (for the next batch of french bread pizza making).

i've already paid two bills.

after that, i'll likely have a cup of hot tea. then will play some computer games, and continue with a jigsaw puzzle.

i went to the local produce auction earlier this week, and brought home: one 5 lb brick of hot pepper american cheese (which i shredded/portioned/froze, and will be used in making ground turkey burrito casseroles...and anything else that comes to mind) for $9, four cans of caramel apple pie filling at 50 cents per (will be used in making parfaits), two 2-packs of baguettes for 75 cents each (will make more french bread pizzas :yummy: ), eight 10-ounce bags of pretzel rods at 50 cents per :cloud9: , six boxes of cereal (5 boxes of Annie's Cinnabunnies gluten free 10 oz, and one Erewhon Crispy Brown Rice cereal gluten free 10 oz) for 50 cents each, and two more breads at 50 cents per -- a two-pack of 'brown bread' baguettes (will use these to put sloppy joes on), and a baguette.

micknsnicks2mom micknsnicks2mom Do you shred your cheese by hand or use a food processor? After breaking two cheap food processors many years ago, I now shred cheese by hand. I have a KA food processor now that I use for many things....but not cheese. But that would take a while with a 5-pound block! Another fine haul from the produce auction! Good job!
  • Breakfast for the kids, emptied the dishwasher, fed my sourdough starter, and am sitting back here with my morning coffee. Rick will scoop when he wakes up from his morning nap. (I'm using my sourdough discard to make pizza tonight for dinner.)
  • I have to run in town to have my picture taken for my driver's license. Hit the bank, hit the grocery store for mozz, go to Lowes for softener salt (we didn't get there last night), go to Staples for paper (they sent me a $6 coupon with no minimum amount needed). Staples will be open yet until the end of next week.
  • Spend the afternoon in cleaning mode: vacuuming, Swiffering, wiping the kitchen and bathroom. Nothing exotic.
I'm in the mode to bake something, but I'm not sure what I want to bake. Cookies are always good. So is a blueberry buckle. I don't know what I want to make.

Winchester Winchester --i use a hand held grater, to grate my cheese! it actually didn't take very long to grate that 5 pounds of cheese. i'd set the brick of cheese out in the unheated back enclosed porch for 4 hours prior to grating it, and the cheese came out in nice long shreds. i think getting the cheese very cold really helped make it easier to grate, as well as gave a better shred to it. and it felt good to get some benefit from the extreme cold weather, too! :agree:

thank you!

today i'll wash the dishes, scoop the litter boxes, and keep the wood stove going. it's forecast to get up to 31 degrees F here today, though it's currently 4 degrees. :cold:

i'll spend some time with my budget this afternoon.

after that, i'll play some computer games, and continue with a jigsaw puzzle.

micknsnicks2mom micknsnicks2mom When I get muenster cheese, I always buy it in a block and then grate it for a filling in my fondue bread. I have a circular grater; mine is not a box. And it's an old plastic grater. It works (and I don't break it). Mom gave it to me decades ago. And you're right about getting the cheese really cold.
  • Breakfast for the kids, emptied the dishwasher, sorted laundry. Rick stripped the bed and put the load of sheets in the washer; he'll scoop when he gets up from his morning nap.
  • I will make bread bowls this morning for our chili tonight. We haven't had bread bowls in a while. I asked Rick what he wanted for Super Bowl Sunday and he told me he wanted chili. In bread bowls. So Ok, then!
  • Not much else on our agenda today that I'm aware. I'd like to do a good manicure as it's been a while.
  • Season 4 of Outlander is finished; I'm watching the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel on the FireStick. I saw Season 1 last and part of Season 2 last night and will finish Season 2 tonight. Rick will be watching the Super Bowl....for a while anyway.
And I think that will be it for our Sunday.

Winchester Winchester -- it was because it was american cheese, that i thought of getting the cheese really cold. and it's good to know that that's the best way to grate cheese, too! :agree:

i used a small box grater, as that's what i came across first. i don't like the box graters, much prefer the flat graters with handles on both ends.

today i'll wash the dishes, scoop the litter boxes, and keep the wood stove going. i'll also move something to the fridge to thaw, for upcoming dinners.

after that, i'll play some computer games and continue with a jigsaw puzzle. i may watch something on tv this evening.

Well, that weekend went by quickly. It was time to drag our sorry butts out of bed this morning and we just mumbled, "No, nope, nope". But alas, work calls. I watched a bit of TV last night, while Rick watched a wee little bit of what he called The SnoozerBowl.

So this morning, I was getting ready for work. I was in the kitchen and had given the girls their after-breakfast snack and The Beast her cookie. The Beast was in the living room munching on her dog cookie. Suddenly, she started growling like crazy. Then she gave out a bark and it was one of those, "You'd best not be messing with me!" barks. I didn't know what was going on, but she was mad. I ran into the living room and there was Ms. Pepe, trying to paw Jackie's cookie away from her! Jackie was having none of that at all. And there was no way I was going to let Pepe take the cookie, not that she could have. I told Pepe, "Look, woman, you had your breakfast, you had your peanut butter, and you had your after-breakfast snack! Leave The Beast alone!" And she ran off to the cat tree. Jackie looked at me, waved her tail and I went back out to the kitchen. I figured I'd wait til she was finished with her cookie before leaving for work. Not that Pepe could ever take it from her, but I was a little worried that The Beast might do something; she was really angry. And a 4-pound cat cannot take on a 35-pound dog. Not that Pepe wouldn't try.
  • Breakfast for the kids, walked 4 miles, and got ready for work. On the way into work, Clarence and I stopped for gas. I figured that, since we are to hang out in the high 40s/low 50s most of this week, I'd get Clarence out for the week. He started right up, warmed up a bit, then we took off.
  • Must grab some groceries tonight; there's not much on my list
  • Scoop, scoop, scoop. Scoop, scoop, scoop. Scoop the boxes. Scoop the boxes!
