Yesterday we launched a semi-new feedback system on the site, allowing our members to provide positive feedback on specific posts, images and reviews.
Details about the new system are right here.

The default name for this system is "reputation" and it is used both for the "thumbs-up" icon, found at the bottom of each post, as well as for the ribbons you see under your postcount and location. This name doesn't reflect what we want the system to be all about here in TCS, and we need your help in choosing a new name!

What are we looking for?

1. A name that reflects positive feedback (e.g. kudos, love, applause).

2. A word (or two words) that work in the following sentences:
  • Another user gave you   [ blank ]
  • Give this post  [ blank ]
  • See Anne's [ blank ]
3. A name that's related to cats.

The best example I can think of is used for the very same system in a website about... chickens. Their members came up with the word "ovation". It reflects positive feedback, it's grammatically appropriate in all three examples and it's related to chickens (the word ova means egg in Latin).

So, let's brainstorm together for a "catty" alternative to the word reputation! What would YOU call the thing you want to give others for good posts, and receive yourself?

Make a suggestion that meets all three criteria, and you could win a beautiful TCS sweatshirt!

We have a week to brainstorm here, and come up with names. Please submit your suggestions in the following format -
  • Another user gave you   [ blank ]
  • Give this post  [ blank ]
  • See Anne's [ blank ]
If you're making more than one suggestion, please make sure you repeat all three phrases for each one. It's the only way to make sure the phrase/word actually works. Thank you!

Feel free to ask questions, discuss and provide feedback on names in this thread as well. Questions about the new system are also very welcome! Most importantly, do please use the new system and if you see a quality, informative and supportive post, which you think contributes to our community, please do click the thumbs-up icon and add a comment to go with that! Make sure you read the rules and guidelines first - they're soon about to be part of the site's official rules.

Let's take a week to think about names. In a week's time, on Tuesday, October 15, I'll collect all the posts containing submissions (in the above mentioned format) and run a draw for the sweatshirt.

I love each ones, but they each need to fit the format of all three sentences. So this would be -

*Another user gave you HURRAH

*Give this post HURRAH

*See Anne's HURRAH

*Another user gave you Head Bumps

*Give this post Head Bumps

*See Anne's Head Bumps

*Another user gave you MEOWvalous Marks

*Give this post MEOWvalous Marks

*See Anne's MEOWvalous Marks

No "a" in the first sentence, please! Do you still like all three without the "a"? I'm not sure about the Hurrah?

Bravo on the international style ;) I did fix it to take out the "a" in the first instance. Thanks for the submission!

I have two ideas. The first being purrfect props (props is a more current term for recognition) and the second being head bunts because that is how cats show approval or affection.

Seeing that it is a cat site, why not something like "Paws Up"   or   "Tails Up"  or "Whiskers"   or "Belly Rubs"  or "Scritches"

Another user gave you Paws Up

And we all love kittens and most of us would collect them if we could!  So what about "Kittens".  This way we can collect them guilt free :)

Wonderful ideas all the way around, but this sounds particularly fun.

So indicative of this great site!

How about "applaws"?

Another user gave you "Applaws:"

Give this post "Applaws"

See Anne's "Applaws" report

It's not exactly "paws", but it's close

I like both of them, but need to see them in the phrases to see how they work.

I really like Catnip and Mice, but Scratching Post wouldn't work.

Each term needs to be tested in all three instances because we end up with one term that will be used for the name. When you do that, you can see some things work, but some don't.

For example, if we take Scratching Post -
  • Another user gave you   Scratching Post
  • Give this post Scratching Post
  • See Anne's  Scratching Post
You can see it works for the last phrase, but not really for the first two. We can't add "a" or any other preface, so the word needs to be a non-countable noun :)

Sorry if I wasn't clear enough. I just added a sentence to the original post to clarify that.
