I have a girl who clips my cat's nails once a month. She has her own business and has been doing this for quite awhile. Today she told me that one of my cat's hind nails was split straight down to the quick. It is not infected. Looks like a very tiny amount of old dried blood on the base of the nail. I lost my job and can not afford a vet right now. What can I do without going to the vet?

I don't think you need to go to the vet. My Lily tore one of her claws completely off, and the vet just stopped the bleeding and bandanged it, which Lily had off in a half hour. The claw should grow out fine; just keep an eye on it.

Yes, maybe try to clip it short. Be careful of the blood vessel running through it. My vet took pliers and yanked it out when my cat had this, but there is no way I could do that, so I would just let it grow out and keep an eye on it.
