Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!

Oh Lauren, I'm just so sorry to hear this update. I know it's really hard to hear your mom like this and to know she's in pain.

I do agree with Libby - in the end, it's your mom's decision. Actually, it sounds very much to me like the family should let this happen and figure out the best way to make it happen. It's SO important to her, and so meaningful to her, it gives her a goal to achieve, you know?

I, too, wish there was something I could do. Your anguish - and the many reasons for it - makes my heart hurt. Thank goodness for Pipsqueak!

Continued for your mom, and and
for you. !!!!!!!!!

GOOD NEWS!! So far so good, my mom got in and out of the car yesterday and today at rehab. She is determined and fighting to make it home this Friday for that family photo. She is also making good progress day by day, slow but positive. She might even get to go home in a couple of weeks time if things keep up this way. So for today, she IS coming home in the car with dad on Friday afternoon. My brother will drive her back to rehab Friday evening and get her settled back for the night. Larry, I and my dogs will be staying at a pet friendly hotel on Saturday night so I can visit my mom for two days before we head back home. I was going to board the dogs, but my darling angel, Wilbur (am going to post about him sometime soon and show you all some pictures of the brother's), is not doing well and was at the specialists this week for more tests. His Cushing's Disease is taking a turn for the worse so we think, but tests come back tomorrow. He is too weak to be boarded. His brother Henry will join us and he is healthy as a horse. Henry will probably be swimming in Lake Michigan Friday night and put on his diving show for everyone. He loves water. Will post about everything with my mom when I return back home next Monday. Hopefully
it will be all good news!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great news about your Mom!
I knew she'd be able to make the trip---there's a lot to be said for the human spirit ( and being stubborn
). I hope the weather cools off so you all have an enjoyable weekend.

I'm so sorry about Wilbur, and am very glad you found a pet-friendly hotel. I would have a terrible time leaving a pet who wasn't feeling well, too. Maybe Henry can entice Wilbur to play in the water with him.

Wishing your Mom all the best; you and your family are in my thoughts so often---I hope everyone has a fabulous time at the reunion.

I'm so glad to hear that your mom will be able to make the drive! I'm sure it will do her a world of good to see the whole family, and I know it will do everyones spirit good as well!

I hope everything turns out ok with Wilbur, as well. I'm keeping you and your family in my thoughts!

Whew! It looked bad there for a bit, but I'm so glad to get to the end and see that your mom is such a fighter!

And I tell you, your daughter had darn well better come for this photo, after all your mom's going through to make it happen. Sure you wouldn't like me to go knock on her door laaaate some night and EXPLAIN it to her?

Love it! After you're finished with Lauren's daughter, would you like to work on mine?

I am soooooooooo glad she is able to make it home for the picture
It just means so much to her, she is one strong woman

Lots and lots of vibes that she continues to recover quickly and that she gets to come home soon

Lauren, I don't know what to say about your daughter. I'm not sure how old she is, but I do think that our children go through a phase where they're completely self-centered and believe that the whole world revolves around them. Nobody else, just them.

I'm so sorry you're going through this with your daughter....especially on top of everything with your mother.

It will be wonderful news when you finally hear that your mom will be coming home and staying home! She is in so much pain right now and I feel so badly for her and for you, too.

I hope your daughter shows up for the picture and am sending for a wonderful time for you!

Hang in there (and I know it sounds trite, but that's what we do when these things happen. We hang in there and take it a step at a time. Just know that you are not alone.) Many

GOSH! I am just overjoyed by all of your wonderful, supportful words of encouragement! I just am so thankful to have so many nice people routing for me and my family. You ALL are the greatest
. Will keep you posted as the weekend progresses.

OH a side note; My dog, Wilbur, the love of my life
, does NOT have Cushing's disease. So that is good news because the drugs could have killed him anyway, they are really tough to handle. BUT...... the specialist thinks he has a muscle disease
called Myotonia. We will need a muscle biopsy to diagnose this. His tremors are so bad and uncontrollable, like a person with parkinson's. I am waiting for the estimate on the surgery
. But I figure I can start spending my daughter's inheritance on Wilbur
, because Wilbur is more deserving of the money... Sad
but true.
. I will have to start a thread on Wilbur and post some pictures of him. You will LOVE his face. Cutest little guy in the world

First, Lauren, let me say I hope you and your family have a fabulous weekend! I can't wait to hear all about it.

Poor Wilbur, a muscle biopsy just doesn't sound nice at all. But, if it helps diagnose the reason for his tremors, it will be worth it.
But I figure I can start spending my daughter's inheritance on Wilbur , because Wilbur is more deserving of the money... Sad but true

I LOVE that! Good for you! Just yesterday Dave told me we should start selling off some of our collectibles because we don't have anyone to pass them on to. About time he realized that.

Seriously, I hope your daughter gets her head out of her rear-end soon, but honey, don't hold your breath. It's been just over a year since our daughter ran away from home; who would have thought things could stay so bad for so long? I hope you all can work things out but if you can't---it's her loss.

Have a wonderful time, and skritch both of those puppy's ears for me, please. And if she doesn't mind, give your Mom a gentle hug for me.

Enjoy your weekend!

I'm really glad you posted an update with good news! Frankly, I think dogs are much more deserving of our undying loyalty than many teenagers.
My kids are keeping me alive though. With the intention of living long enough to be a pain in the petootie to them someday!!

What? Am I the only one telling my kids they're gonna change MY diapers someday?

HI ALL
. I am home and have great news to report. My mom made it home on Friday in the car for the photo. We helped her to her bedroom and she laid down on the bed for a rest until the photographer arrived. The first thing she said was "Where is OLI", her ragdoll mix boy. I went to find him and brought him into her. Oli was so happy to see his meowmy and has missed her terribly. He hasn't seen her in a month since the accident. I thought he would be afraid of my mom in the wheelchair and using a walker, but he seemed to now understand that something went wrong with her and was very, very loving. My sister and I helped mom with some makeup and did her hair. We were able to slip on a skirt for her to wear and a pretty bright green and white blouse. We pushed her in her wheelchair as close to the pond in their yard where she wanted the picture. Mom used her walker and made it to the bench and we helped her into her position. The photographer was just awesome and put all of us together surrounding my mom and dad on the bench. AND YES, my daughter was there and she was in a cheerful mood and was very happy to be there. She drove up with the girl she is living with right now and I was glad she didn't drive alone. I was just so happy to have the whole family together, that the troubles between us just faded away for the day.

The photos went very well and the weather couldn't have been better. We even had a photo taken of myself, Larry, Heather and my dogs, Wilbur and Henry all together. There was also a photo taken of all of the grandchildren together. I can't wait to see the proofs and will definitely be ordering a bunch. I was very happy and the day turned out to be fantastic. My brother drove my mom back to rehab almost immediately after the photo. Was sad to have to see her go back to the nursing home and not be able to spend time with everyone too. My mom's attitude was just so stoic and she has such a positive outlook.

The next morning I called my daughter to meet for breakfast. We were able to talk a bit about things and at least that is a start. I will just have to wait and see if she makes the effort to come and work things out with us. I have to take a step back now and, well, just wait. It is up to her now to take the next step. All in all, the weekend was just wonderful. We all drove to Green Bay on Saturday for a b-day party for my neice at the rehab center. Today we stopped to visit my mom again on the way home and brought our dogs in also to see her. The place allows family pets to visit
. So many people's spirits were lifted today at the nursing home because of Wilbur/Henry. They were like therapy dogs and many people wanted to pet them as we walked down the halls to my mom's room. My mom should be able to go home in about two weeks. Things are looking up for a change
. My mom told me to say hello to all of the great people on TCS that have sent her prayers and vibes. She loves to hear about TCS and all of the great people (and cats) I have met on the site
. Will let you all know when she goes home!!!

for Heather taking the next step, and continued for your mom. !!!!!!!

Um... the photographer will be able to provide digital photos, right? So you will be posting some - right?
