hi I had a litter of Devon rex kittens 4 day ago and i noticed one of them is breathing really fast. Other of the kittens seem fine. The kitten is otherwise active and gaining weight everyday. One problem with the kitten was the umbilical cord, because the mother cat ate the whole thing so the kitten was bleeding for some time but not excesively and is no longer bleeding. I desinfected the area multiple times. The umbilical opening is now black but the area seems swollen around the black dot. I don't know wether I should be worried or not.

(I am certified breeder, but new, so I don't know everything about kitten' problems)

Being a breeder I suppose you do have contact with a vet, experienced with small kittens? If so, the best is to contact himher.
I would suspect some infection; either from this wound or beginning pneumonia. And thus - antibiotica.
Many vets are reluctant to give antibiotica to small kittens, thought.

Ps. If you compare the body temperature of these kittens - differs it something? I hope you have such an ear termometre, so you can measure from the outside.

Ps. Being a breeder, you do have a natural network. If nothing else, you can always contact owners to ancestors of your cats. Most of them will be happy to try and help out; because most of them are eager to defend their grandchildren... etc.

thank you, yes I have contacted breeders, so far they've told me there is nothing i should worry about and the kitten looks fine. I have also sent thema video of kitten's breathing (I can't do that on this site). So hopefully the kitten will gain normally. Do you think I should keep desinfecting the area of the kitten's belly? It look pretty much closed up and healed to me, but im not sure.

Better to overdo a little, than underdo.

Still, IF you have a natural access to a vet, I think its wise to contact your vet... Knowleable friends and network is very good to have, but a good vet is worth hishers weight in gold.
