rubysmama rubysmama Yes! Those fireworks were extremely powerful! Very illegal here so that’s probably why the person shot them behind the trees. I bet the neighbor on the other side was really upset since all her cats are usually on her porch. At least I have more places for animals to hide over here. Something was under my house and I suspect it was a cat! Kitty poo often comes here to hide out or get a nice treat. I saw two of her cats here today. One had been under my porch and the other was under the Catavan. Not where I want a cat to be but the catio and cat shelter are probably where they hid during the show. I have kept two of the cat shelters and one catio outside, just in case a cat needs a place.
The cats are doing well today. Banjo has been very playful today. She got something today. She must have ordered online during the fireworks. Lol
Hmmmm. I can guess why you liked that meme. Must be singing some cat lover calming songs. ;) Happy Thursday!

N NY cat man You’ll have to tell Michelle that we are all admiring her taste! Beautiful. The cats there obviously appreciate her taste! Lol Classy cats.

tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 The land in the Mojave was that expensive too? Wow. Beauty and peace are worth it.
You always notice the de tails. ;) Cats and surroundings.
That video was amazing. Cat fishing. Lol
Of all the people who have selfish tendencies, I think for me it boils down to one thing. Priorities. You either have your priorities straight or you don’t. I try to put myself in the other persons shoes. I think about why they may or may not do something. Why would this particular thing be a priority to them? Hmmm. The only reason I can come up with on the massive amount of fireworks this year is that the world has been restricted lately and a lot of people have been living a kind of dark existence so, maybe this is just bright and pretty to them? I think there are other ways to brighten things but my way would be to do something for someone else. So, taking those veggies to the neighbor parents was three fold. It encouraged the son to stop, it made the parents happy and it also made me happy. Priorities got shifted over there, albeit temporarily? No more fireworks were shot off over there after I visited. Lol If I had fussed or asked for all that to stop, it would probably not have happened. Holding out an olive branch might have brightened things? IDK but I do know that selfish people are just going to be out there. We can teach by example and we may be ignored. We can only try. In this case, it helped the kitties here so I was pleased at the outcome. Yes. I could totally write a book on the subject! A library! I will add that once upon a time I had issues with the parents. Not so anymore. I was a welcomed visitor and I could see how pleased they were by a simple kindness so maybe all hope is not lost. In the years I have known them, they have greatly softened and even learned to appreciate cats! The mother and father apologized about the kitties here being scared. The son hid from me. Lol Their house has been completely quiet since!
I know about not being around others that share your beliefs, morals and interests. It does get lonely. Thank goodness for your roomies and for Elvis. Thank goodness for TCS people too. You will never be truly alone with so many great people here. Bonjour and the Clowder also send lots of snorggles.

Stereotypes. Unh. Fixed thoughts and generalizations are something I find very damaging. Yes, stereotypes come about because of some who stand out in a group but…. more often that not, they cause prejudice against some good and kind people caught up in that generalization. Sad to think that others might think poorly of any group or country since there are some outstanding individuals around. Poor examples should be held responsible as individuals. Time to set great examples everywhere! Fortunately, we have great examples right here on TCS from all over the world! So, spread the word! :):welcomesign::heartshape::grouphug2: Come to TCS to meet good humans!

Whenallhellbreakslose Whenallhellbreakslose So true! It did not relieve stress for me but increased it. I think that fireworks in the proper places are fine but not in a neighborhood! Not near lots of animals. It is inconsiderate. I am so glad all the kitties showed up there. If people were always loving creaturesthey would be called cats. Lol

Glad you liked the videos! I really laughed at the cat and fishing rod! The catnip one was cute. The kitties knew there was catnip drying in that room! I have some growing in hanging baskets here and the kitties love it when I bring in the cuttings. Happy cats! Whistle is always the most excited about it. He will try to grab it from me. They say it mimics cat hormones in the scent so it is no wonder the cats can get a little crazy for it. :climbcat: < Whistle going for the nip! Lol

strider rose strider rose Lol I don’t know if Whistle has seen the Matrix movies but he claims to be the one responsible for the term Animatrix. He says you should note the cat like moves in all the films. :dunno: View attachment 425518

I think we are due for a smile post! For anyone just coming to this thread, I want to explain that a smile post is a sort of stress reliever for caregivers , advocates and rescuers of cats everywhere. Caregiving, advocating and rescuing can be hard and our hearts can be tested but at the end of the day, having cats around is the best way I know of to find a smile. Posting smile posts here is my way of giving back to all those on TCS who have supported me as I went through the process of rescuing so many kitties. Our reward for being cat guardians is love and laughter. Each cat is unique in the things they do. Some are gentle lap cats that simply want to snuggle and purr , some have amazing gymnastic abilities, while others seem to have lived adventures, have special talents or they do unusual things with technical devices like computers or cell phones. From each cat here we have watched as their personality leads them to do all sorts of things we would not necessarily expect from a cat. I am constantly surprised by the things these feral and rescued cat do and the stories they inspire. From these cats we get our smile posts.
For everyone who has been asking about Banjo, she seems to be doing pretty well. She is taking her medicines daily without any struggles at all on my part! She has become more affectionate than ever. :headscratch: How does that happen with a feral when I am cramming medicine in her mouth every day? I guess she knows I hate having to do that? She is still sleeping a lot but doing that in my lap, my hand or in the bed she begged for me to buy for her. She has also been back to being in charge around here and back to placing her own orders online. Lol Here we have her latest purr chase. She deserves a reward for being such a great kitty!

Banjo. What have you got?

Now I just have to get her to take the sunglasses off the cardboard backing. To be continued…..

Banjo! You are the epitome, the apex, the very definition of COOL!
Yes, Jcatbird Jcatbird , I agree! Every time I obey my better nature and instead of showing I'm upset, try to deal with others gently and patiently, it ends up being much better than it would have otherwise. I invited my roomies to stay with me because I wanted to become a better person. Though I've lived mostly with family, extended family and/or husbands, and almost always with CATS, of course, I have lived without anyone else at times, and I don't find that to be a good way to live. Sharing with, compromising with, listening to, and helping others is our way and it is IMHO the best way. Also, my association with the homeowner next door was problematical until we tried to understand and be friendlier to each other. That has made a positive difference to me, and I hope, to them as well. Dealing with business people, ditto. Even in today's atmosphere which is so often negative, it DOES still make a difference how we treat others. We can be fair and patient without being taken advantage of.
Maria Bayote Maria Bayote Such beautiful girls!

I forgot to respond to your question about property in the Mojave. It's nowhere near as high as it is here; the closer you are to L.A. Metro, the more $$$ it is, and this is a wealthy city, kind of a lesser Beverly Hills in places. A lot of entertainment biz and IT people live here. The farther out you go from the city, the more affordable; but as more and more people crowd this state, and the economy does what it does, the higher the prices go.

It's the same here. We paid 80K for 1700 square feet 17 years ago. In the last 3 years, the houses on either side of us have sold for stupid money, as has another nearby house. I dread what the next assessment is going to look like, even with my 15% veteran's exemption. Like I said, they're coming from the larger cities and running up the prices here. And, at least so far, none of them are cat people.

tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 I feel the same way at times, but like you said there are wonderful people here and elsewhere caring for those around them, especially the animals. Just keep looking they are there making an impact where they have been planted. 🙂

Okay, I am a big mush for cute animal videos. Here is one that never fails to make me smile
Have a great weekend everyone!!!

tabbytom tabbytom Thank you. I was really happy today to see Banjo on top of the secretary! She has been jumping much so finding her up high in one of her favorite places was so great! Yay Banjo! She had me climb up there to give her medicine. I think I heard her laughing. That’s our Banjo!

rubysmama rubysmama Banjo is definitely like her Dad. She had so much fun with her new glasses. She just picked the glasses up and walked off with them. I had tried showing them to Bonjour but he didn’t want to have an issue with Banjo so he refused them. Lol It’s Friday!
Maria Bayote Maria Bayote Yay! Graham, I love it when you tell us you are drop dead gorgeous! So is Bourbon!! Nothing is better than a beautiful view of a kitty. They are both very photogenic. Kisses sent back. Be prepared to be bowled over by a Clowder of kisses! Lol

tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 Awww. Banjo is so happy you think she is a cool cat. She works at it. Lol
It’s not easy to hold back and continuously offer patience. That’s where the term of “biting our tongue” comes in. Swallowing anger isn’t really good for us but if we can come to some sort of resolution, hopefully it saves us further anger in the future that otherwise would also have to be swallowed. It doesn’t always work but when it does it can be wonderful and give us quite a lift. At the very least, the other person knows we took notice, tried and will always be aware so no advantage can be taken.
There must be a ceiling that real estate will hit eventually. Of course, there is only so much land available in each nice area. :disappointed:

N NY cat man My assessment has already arrived. It stayed about the same but last year by the time to pay, they raised it. That gave no time to object legally. The rise wasn’t huge but it keeps creeping up. Commercial zoning keeps moving closer here. I am grandfathered in but…. Who knows. The Power company is doing surveys here snd I know they plan on running more powerful lines which is supposed to be to supply a new car plant. The plant will be over by the interstate rather than right here so I am hoping it can be routed elsewhere. I am told the decision has not been made yet. Progress?:rolleyes3: I say, let the cats decide everything from now on. Lol

Whenallhellbreakslose Whenallhellbreakslose Oh…. Banjo is always a good girl. Lolololololol She really is. She just has a great love and curiosity for everything. Sometimes she does snitch my keys though.
Very glad you liked the pictures.

Awww. The pandas are so cute! Uh oh. Now Banjo wants a Panda! Hmmm. She kind of looks like a cat panda. Lol

Early on we had a kitty outside named Panda.
I love cute animal videos too.

Bonnie, you are SO handsome! You know I'm a pushover for a house panfur...the the floof is an extra gorgeousness! *Yes, your mama needs to dust you off with a featherduster. Or maybe you could just flick your tail over your face?*:flail:
Glad you're back up and running, Jcatbird Jcatbird . The weather must be a constant influence in your lives, as it was for us in the Mojave. I gave my ex a beautiful weather station so he (we) could tell what was going on without having to go outside. It was very useful out there, where high winds, and resulting sandstorms, could kick up suddenly.
I love your thoughts on dealing with people. Very wise. In my Faith we are admonished never to get angry. It is sometimes very difficult! but very wise.:agree:
Banjo, conCATulations on summiting the bookcase! Keep up the good work.
I love the blankets, BTW, especially the one with the gnomes. :dunce:

tabbytom tabbytom It is a lovely shot! We both appreciate a beautiful cat photo! :cloud9:

tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 I don’t think we can go through life without some anger. We are just human. We just try to reign it in when we can but letting it out in some way keeps our blood pressure down. My elderly friend sometimes got really upset about his physical limitations so I gave him a pillow to punch. It actually helped him to release stress and the pillow always recovered.;)

The weather here keeps making me lose signal. I keep telling Banjo she cannot build her own cell tower. Then again….. lol

Bonjour did get dusted off. I think he could see that hair. He kept looking but couldn’t quite figure out what he was seeing. Lol Poor Bonnie! He got the zoomies tonight so he has been having fun. He always fluffs his tail during zoomies.
Banjo and most of the others slept a lot today. Rain pounding on the roof lulled them to sleep. It was wet but no thunder so, peaceful.

Mamanyt1953 Mamanyt1953 I nearly fell over laughing at that one! Priceless picture. The expression!:flail::flail::flail::flail::flail::flail::flail:Cat decorations!

Missing people here. I hope storms didn’t cause anyone trouble. Are all cats and humans okay? Paws crossed for everyone!! :grouphug2:

I didn’t finish the continuation of Banjo with her new glasses but she made me laugh so hard I thought I should post the rest of the photos. It’s just hard for me to watch her and then think back to her days outside. When I brought my her in she was well past the age of what we are told is the “cut off age” to socialize a feral. From a kitty living and hiding under an old trailer , eating with siblings only if I kept my distance…..

I honestly can't say as I know what 'too old' is when it comes to socializing a feral. How old was BJ when he joined you? Miss Eleanor was, judging from what the vet said, about 3 years old when she first arrived on the scene. As with anything else, it all depends on the individual, whether you are talking about cats or people.
