Okay tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 and tabbytom tabbytom I fell on the floor laughing and the cats are wondering what’s so funny! I’ll leave it to Banjo to read the posts and explain! :flail:Thank you for the healing laughter and the well wishes.

A pigeon sneeze?!?!? Acho o o o o o! If he had a cold , I hope it flew away! Or was it the flew? I would have loved Sebastian. The cichlids I had would raise their fin and rush strangers. They darkened a bit too. Very spirited fishies. I saw some cichlids in the wild in another country too. A mated pair I think and they were very brave fish! I think they would have challenged anything that entered their little grotto.

rubysmama rubysmama It is kind of odd that we got sick together. I just hope nothing is in the air here. There used to be contaminants from people burning bad stuff and I did have the windows open the day before any of us got sick. The vet felt it was allergies but she isn’t medicating me. :flail: Funny thing though, my doctor gave me the exact same antihistamines! At least I can rest easy that all shots are up to date. Of course, no new animals have come in. :dunno: At this point I can only medicate and watch carefully.

We had a visitor today and BJ did enjoy playing guard cat. He climbed onto them and put his face right in front of theirs! Lol A close examination! He decided they were okay but sat between us the entire time. He escorted them to the door too! Very polite but suspicious. Thrasher watched too. From a distance. Whistle vanished. Banjo ran through several times with “the look!” Smokey slept through the visit. Snoring!!

Furballsmom Furballsmom Thank you too! Hugs heal!

I got some fantastic news about one county in our state. I had spoken to the person in charge of the one shelter there and he was not someone I found friendly. Over the past two years I have kept up with things there. Others have as well. The local paper just announced that the past few months have been ZERO kill! They are going to try and keep it that way. They also inacted a law that cats that have been through TNR can no longer be impounded as a nuisance. TNR is now legal there. This is a huge shift from a county where all were impounded and euthanized. None were released for adoption until recently. The shelter still needs improvements but they are now setting a great example for others. I hope they start improving things for other kinds of animals too. I’ll be keeping track. The news article is already being sent far and wide. I am encouraging that. Yay!! Many, many lives are being spared! :clap2:Bravo to all who fought for this change! May they continue to make such wonderful progress! Every person who ever speaks up for any cat has contributed to this shift in public opinion! Thank you to everyone!:redheartpump: You helped save these lives by using your voice, wherever you are. Word travels.:worship:

Sending out prayers, good wishes and lots of hope to those in the floods.

I went on an adventure today. Lol I don’t usually drive this far but I decided that the kitties might benefit from air purifiers. That meant I had to go to another town.

Hmmmm. It’s very dark out.

I think you better take some supplies. I brought you a bug for the trip. Ah, thank you Froggie?!?!?

It’s going to rain you know!

Stay home and snuggle Mom! You won’t have a Whistle with you to signal danger.

You’ll get your fur wet!

It is looking kind of bad! Can I make it there and back before the storm? Maybe I should wait and just take the boat.

I did not make it home before the storm. I ended up pulling over and waiting with a lot of other people. It rained so hard, no one could see the road! It got very dark shortly after this photo. Thankfully, I was able to pull off into a truck stop before the worst hit.

You’re very late getting home and we were alone during the storm! Your fur is wet too!

I’m trying to help you mom!

Here. I brought you this to dry your fur!
97514BC6-2F19-423B-9EDA-E51588641743.jpeg

:flail:He presented a tail wrapped with toilet paper! Thank you Purry! I think he would have handed me a towel if he could gotten it around his tail! His concern was greatly appreciated! I nearly fell over laughing as I watched him twist his tail around the paper. Cats are amazing and very smart!
I did return with three air purifiers. I hooked one up immediately and have only heard one sneeze so far! Maybe there is something in the air. Maybe the deluge of rain helped or maybe the purifier. We’ll see. Whatever it is , I’m grateful and hope the kitties will get better.

Smiling!

Have a great night everyone! I’m going for a hot shower and to dry my hair.... uh, fur? ;):heartshape:

Furballsmom Furballsmom Thank you! Safe and nearly dry!! I was wondering if I could paddle my van home.

Thank you for showing me that! That makes great news in two places!!:bunnydance:As stated, every time someone uses their voice to champion a cat, word spreads and saves others! Maybe it will spread across the entire country rapidly! I am in the Deep South which , in the past, was not known for saving cats. I hope it will be “in the past “in every county soon. I had considered moving to the county that just changed the laws. When I investigated the situation for cats I was horrified. I did NOT move there. I spread the word among the rescue system as much as I could. The thing that amazed me was that local residents were mostly unaware of the situation. It seems that is almost always the case. Enlightenment and education brought about change. There are some great people who worked there to fight the system. It really just took one lady there to yell loud enough for others to hear. We often feel that, as one person, we can’t make a difference. NOT true!! One yells and others hear. When others hear and join in, there is strength in numbers. Every life counts and every voice counts. If we all yelled at once......cats everywhere could be saved!!
Let’s make the word spread. I wish everyone would check out the shelters nearby and find out the laws where you live. If the laws don’t take good care of cats, call, write, text, email, post online and join hands with others who love cats. I watched the laws change right here where I live. I wrote, texted, emailed, called and just kept asking for help for local kitties. I found out the advantages to TNVR and networked, including with members here, to find out how to convince others (even those who don’t have or even like cats) to vote for saving kitties. Happy endings happen. We have TNVR here now. The fight took time but it’s legal here now and I send people to the program nearly every time I go to the cat supply section of any store. I did it today at Walmart and I did it last week at the dollar store! One feral colony at someone’s home and one at a local business will be getting spays, neuters and immunizations just because I found another cat lover in the store. One person was buying cat food and the other was a cashier who commented on the amount of cat food I was buying. Give me one little opportunity to start talking about saving cats and I’ll take it as far as the human will allow. It’s wonderful to find out how many people desire to join in the rescuing!:cloud9::petcat:

Yay! I'm all for less killing of animals. Zero sounds perfect. :cheerleader:

I am in the Deep South
This makes me curious, do you have a southern accent?

We often feel that, as one person, we can’t make a difference. NOT true!!
I always wished it was a kinder world, so I've started doing little "kind" things myself this year. Hope it makes a difference! ✨

Every life counts and every voice counts.
This is a good reminder. 🤝

Give me one little opportunity to start talking about saving cats and I’ll take it as far as the human will allow.
I noticed you do this for humans also (saving). ;)

I have been following your thread since the very beginning.
I don't believe I have ever posted , though. I guess I didn't feel that I had much to add. I just wanted to let you know though how much I admire someone like you. It is amazing what you have accomplished with all these kitties. They are all truly lucky to have someone like you who cares so much for their well being. Each and every one of them is lucky , to all the ones you adopted out into loving homes , to all the ones who are still with you.
You are a real saint to those kitties and to all kitties worldwide. I know you go above and beyond to help any kitty in need , no matter where they may be. We need more people in the world like you!

Jcatbird Jcatbird Huge props to you for taking every opPURR-TUNA-ty to advocate for the cats we love so much and you're so right -- however people feel about cats, they can feel glad that their taxpayer dollars are being saved because it costs less to TNR than the alternative does, by a lot! and they can also feel good that rodents are being kept at bay (not that I don't like rats and mice. I do. But cats have helped control their populations in situations where farmers store grain, and in urban locations where people are not careful about discarding food and other trash, for millenia, as we well know) and their environments are being beautified, kept cleaner and safer by these hard-working cats. Since Best Friends now has boots on the ground in Atlanta and many shelters are linking to them, learning about these successful programs and adopting them themselves, progress is being made. And with people like Sterling Davis and his crew educating others and encouraging them to get involved as well, the south is making great strides.
Such wonderful pix! We always love seeing the little froggies! and we are glad you weathered the storm. The Chez Catbird clowder needs you!
Yeah, cichlids are beautiful brave fish. I was so glad my folks figured out a way for all the fish to live together without any being harmed. And thanks tabbytom tabbytom for sharing the link. The more people get involved and advocate for cats, furnishing communities with the facts on why TNR is the proven successful humane way to care for colonies and make our communities compassionate, caring, and clean, the better it will be for cats and people. ALL people.

Happy Valentines Day to all our dear friends and fur babies here!! :redheartpump::lovecat3:

M maggiedemi Zero can be the best!

Southern accent? :lol:Well, that depends upon perception. When I was selling orchids to the tourists in the city, I often had comments. They wanted to hear someone from the south so they could hear the accent! They did not believe I was local. Lol The area where I grew up is populated with people who tend to have some of the old English pronunciation of many words.I had to give my best Southern drawl to satisfy visitors. Ah had to cunvince the folks that I wuz suthern. Expectations were for a strong accent. I also had a friend from California who would put her friends on the phone with me so they could hear my southern accent. It’s in the ear of the beholder? I can do a great drawl if you ever care to hear one! The people in the countryside here carry a much heavier accent than those in town. Part of it is also being exposed to others. I think we pick up a little from all those around us. My best friend during grade school was from Leroy, New York. I picked up “you guys” from her and she picked up “y’all” from me. When I moved from the islands to the country, My school teacher had each child pronouncing words that were written on the bulletin board. I pronounced the word Chauffeur with a French inflection because that is how it had been pronounced by those around me. The other children in my school class thought that was hilarious. I did not sound southern or country to them. The teacher , kindly, explained to them that my pronunciation was perfectly acceptable. Lol I suppose I might sound southern to you.:) If we ever talk, you can let me know. I’m always fine with it either way.

I had already noticed that you have a very kind heart. I spotted you on the site a long time ago because I thought of you as kind. Your voice and deeds certainly count too. It’s so nice that you make a point of doing good things. If everyone did that, the world would glow with love. I do pick up the glow emanating from you. :hugs:

Saving humans? I would like to think that I share something good with humans. I don’t know if I “save” any but I offer what I have. Every life counts and some humans are exceptional! ;) I bet Maggie and Demi would agree. A kinder world would make us all happy.

I going to stop for supper but I’ll be back in a few minutes!! Cats are staring!

Furballsmom Furballsmom Thank you!! :redheartpump:

tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 I ran across something very unusual today! I went to a shopping area in a very small community here today. Standing outside was a young man advocating for the ASPCA?!?!? As you can imagine, I was filled with questions. He had lots of material to verify working for the group. Apparently the intent is to open a branch in the city. It’s the county where I have been working against high euthanasia rates. According to him, the ASPCA is looking into the value of opening an office to help provide spays and neuteurs as well as other services. He told me they opened a branch in Florida, his home, and were working through law enforcement to stop abuse, neglect and things like fighting pit bulls. Those dogs are confiscated there and euthanized since it is illegal in that town to own one. The ASPCA is trying to save the lives of the dogs. He is a paid employee but could not answer most of my questions. Perhaps I was a bit too inquiring. I was surprised when he told me that 68 people in an economically depressed area had committed to a monthly donation. I watched as several others approached and talked to him. Hmmmm. I’ll be watching to see if they open a branch there. I gave him my opinion. Lol I felt it might be better if they spent the money to fund existing humane societies and rescues that already supply the same services. Just MHO. I am all for any group that can help. I’d like to see Sterling Davis come back to this area. I don’t know if he made a stop in that county but I know he was one county over.

That county did not have another public meeting but today I discovered that the person in charge of so many euthanasia’s has been give the discretionary power to decide what, if any, rescue groups are allowed to take animals. :confused2: I am pretty sure I know how that will go. I don’t know who bestowed that power. This discretionary power was denied at the public meeting. The internet must have been lit up today! I don’t know if local rescue groups were aware yet but the news reached some larger groups and some caring , local politicians. I am grateful to all who helped to inquire about what this will mean for the animals there. The news that we were just made aware of here of great places enacting TNVR and humane laws did make it to those in power in that county who care. Perhaps that will influence any decisions. Word really does spread fast.

Thank you for the kind words. Advocating is a must for me. I always wish I could do more. I guess we all feel that way.

Your parents were great! That was a very creative way to keep Sebastian and the others! Brilliant idea!

The frogs enjoyed having a warm and wet day. Today was cold so they retreated again. It was very nice to see them. Froggie has grown! I was kind of surprised to see them all fairly plump! I guess that feral frogs benefit from shelter too!! 😊 Banjo has been very relaxed after seeing them. Her ampibiafamily are all well.

Loving Mickey Loving Mickey Well Hi! You’ve been following that long?!?!? Wow! You are one of the very patient ones to have stuck by me so long. Thank you! I’m very glad you are here. I may not always hear from everyone but I can tell you that I have felt the support as I have muddled through. I’m sure you know that I’ve had my tough moments. Letting so many fur babies leave was hard but I was very glad so many great people showed up to take them into loving furever homes. I’m no saint though! I’ve been just as frustrated as anyone else at times. I just have a lot of hope and I had people here watching and sending good vibes. The kitties deserve the best. How could anyone turn away? They kept me going along with people like you. Nothing to add? Oh no! You jus posted words that will carry me forward. You have to understand that having people lie you around to boost me up is so greatly needed! Like anyone, I get tired or worried. Having supportive friends here is very important to me. There have been times when I wrote about a kitty as things were happening and I knew that somewhere out there, someone else shared my feelings, thoughts or worries. I was not alone in what I was trying to do. Sometimes it’s just knowing that we are not alone in our situation. Sometimes just one kind post can re energize. Thank you for your kind words. They give strength. :hugs: You have much to add!
Your Mickey, heart and soul Angel kitty, can you tell us about him? You know I love hearing about everyone’s kitties!!

Mamanyt1953 Mamanyt1953 That photo is adorable!! The owls and the pussycat! They must have the same momma!! That inegave me my smile tonight. The resembalance is more than just the eyes. It’s the whole face and the fureathers too!!! :flail:

January is so patient! His expression when he expects you to return is adorable.
Here he is on that table I mentioned earlier

He's looking at the Kitty Cam that is looking at him

And I must add that your kitties are so expressive and I enjoyed viewing them even though some are not clear but it shows the kitties in action which translate more meaning to a photo without any caption and of course your captions suit every photograph you posted here. Blur photos does not mean a badly taken photo. It is like poetry in motion. I appreciate them too 💓

About accents, or would that be "aboot" accents. LOL. Still don't get why people think we Canadians talk funny. :dunno: What is funny, is how quickly you can pick up another areas "accents". Like after a trip to Florida, I would come home and be saying "y'all" all the time. ;)

Anyway, Happy Belated Valentine's Day, to all at Chez Catbird, as well as all the posters and lurkers of this thread. :redheartpump:
Hope y'all had a great day. :redheartpump:
