Hey everyone! BJ tells me that falling stars may be in the sky the next couple of nights. Prepare for a possible show of lights. The Unicorn Meteor shower may be spectacular. If it happens as it has a few times before, there could be lots of “falling stars.” The Eastern US and parts of Canada are possible viewing areas. We’ll be watching!

When I lived in another neighbourhood I had darker (by city comparisons) skies than I do now, and used to try to watch for meteors, but never heard of the Unicorn Meteor shower. I used to try to see the Perseids every August, and almost every year we got fog. :( The best ones I ever saw were the Leonids back in the early 2000's, I think. Good luck tonight. Hope you see a fireball. 💫

M maggiedemi That officer should not have told them. All the officer did was to cause hard feelings. That’s a shame. Maybe things can be patched up. I hope so because it’s better to be friends with your neighbors. If you can, give it a try. Maybe you’ll find their cat slips out when they don’t want it to be out. You might have a love of cats in common!

BJ says he would share his hat with you!

white shadow white shadow I tried to find my hard hat! It must be packed away somewhere. Rats! I really wanted to get pictures of that. I do have something else coming though. Fortunately, no stars fell on any heads.

rubysmama rubysmama The Unicorn meteor shower is called that because it is radiating from the Monoceros (Unicorn) constellation. New to me too. It is supposed to contain lots of meteors if it all goes as predicted. The main viewing time is tomorrow night. I saw ONE tonight. :flail:Frozen nose and toes! Tomorrow night I’ll try again. I’m in a good location for viewing. We don’t have street lights out here. If I go to the back edge of the woods it’s clear and very dark. I’ve gotten to see some beautiful skies from here and had a great view of the wolf blood moon. Remember this? It was an amazing thing to see. Living in a rural area has advantages and disadvantages. Lol

I doubt I’ll get any pictures of the meteor shower with this phone but I’ll try. The old style cameras would have gotten much better photos of the moon and would capture the meteors but the phone cameras.... not to sure. Perhaps I just don’t know how to make it work. :dunno:

I did go out tonight to watch the sky. I saw one falling star and our young possum friend. Lol

The cats didn’t approve of me star watching with a possum so I had to wait to go out.

BJ finally unlocked the door to let me out.

Whistle did a sniff check out the open window before I was allowed out.

I always feel protected by the Clowder. I have a very loving furmily. :lovecat3:

Time to let the kitties help me get warmed up. Have a great night everyone! :heartshape:

Better luck tomorrow ni... well guess that's tonight. Of course that's if BJ lets you out. He really did look concerned. :catrub:

I Googled Monoceros (Unicorn) constellation, and see it's a faint constellation next to my favourite, and visible in the city, constellation, Orion. :stars:

I don't know how they could love cats and let him get this skinny! I set out the dry food for tuxedo kitty yesterday, but he didn't come until after I picked it up at sundown. I can't leave it out after dark because of the wildlife. I'll try again today.

I did go out tonight to watch the sky. I saw one falling star and our young possum friend.
I have to admit I was more interested in the possum than the astronomy lesson. 😄

Get back in here.
BJ has a rather bossy side to him!

Here's a shocker. I actually know a constellation. Cassiopeia! I bet that surprises everybody.

rubysmama rubysmama Love the picture it’s the constellations! Very pretty.
M maggiedemi You’re not the only worrying about a tuxedo cat. More to follow. I’m also impressed about your knowledge but not really surprised. You have an injustice mind and absorb knowledge. :)
Furballsmom Furballsmom I’m glad you have seen one. There’s something awe inspiring about see that streak of light across the sky. Ever since I was little I have always had that ,” Ohhhhhh” reaction
N NY cat man The show is always better over the sea. I remember light shows that were amazing! Dark nights and that panoramic view made them easy to see. They would reflect off the water too. Some years we get better shows than others. This has a possibility of putting out 400 in a short period of time. I hope I can stay up late enough to see something.

Okay. We have the answer to our last mystery. There is a black cat. Black and white actually. A white bib and paws tip. I still did not get a good look. I heard a car engine rev up and it sounded like it took off from my yard. I ran to look out the little glass panel on the front door. Either someone left me a cat or the black shadow we saw, really was a cat. Hopefully, not both! :thud:I saw a cat out on my front step. I called to it through the closed door and it looked at the door but did not run. I dashed to get a plate of food and when I looked back out, it was still there. When I opened the door, it was gone.:headscratch: I called it and finally left the food. It’s kind of hard to see through glass and screen but here is what I saw.
097CDC75-DC0C-4A5B-A674-A4DD7B9EC196.jpeg

I sure hope it’s okay and that it has a family. I’ll keep looking for it. It’s really pretty! :argh:

Here’s a coincidence, I found Prime around the time of the eclipse, Wanda Heart around the last time I saw a meteor and now this kitty. I wonder if the dark skies make the kitties feel it’s safer to come out? Kind of makes sense. It might also be a time humans feel they won’t be seen dumping!
Of course if we put a positive spin on it, this is a magical time when a frog can turn into a Prince. 💫
;)
I guess I’ll be hunting cats and stars tonight.
M maggiedemi I hope your cats haven’t been kissing any frogs!

My fingers are numb! It was worth it. It was a bunch of meteors all at once but there was a steady March across the sky. The closer to midnight, the more I saw. Some were quick and faint but a few were brilliant and crossed the entire sky. I have seen heavier showers but this was very, very beautiful. The sky was crystalline.

The kitties weren’t thrilled to see me go out at night again.

Mom?

Yep! Sorry guys! I tried to get photos but the only thing I caught was the bright second as a star blinked out.
The sky was filled with stars but only that brightest second showed up.:camera:
 You’ll just have to take my word that it was far more than it appears here. 👇 Can you even see it? Lol

I'm impressed! Cassiopeia, the W constellation up there near the Big Dipper,
I had to point it out for a crowd of people! It was for an astronomy class in high school.

BJ made a wish upon a star for you.
Thank you for the wish BJ. That was so kind of you. 💖

You’re not the only worrying about a tuxedo cat.
Awww man, you too? Tuxedo kitty keeps coming over after dark, after I pick up the food. Maybe I scared him when I talked to him through the window the other day. He goes home to the neighbors yard every night, so I don't understand why he's so skinny.

N NY cat man I’m sorry you had clouds. It was pretty but there will be more. I think another comes in January. Maybe the sky will be clear then.

M maggiedemi I know how it is to be worried about the kitty. Just keep trying. Maybe he will get used to seeing you so that he’ll come eat. The more often he sees you, the more likely he is to be less afraid.

rubysmama rubysmama The Star was just a light dot in the picture. Lol I wonder if any made it to the earth? I have a piece of one. The area I once lived in had tektites and some small meteorite pieces.

Furballsmom Furballsmom It wasn’t as chilly last night but I wrapped up in a blanket for added warmth. I defrosted pretty quickly. Lol I did enjoy listening last night too. The owl kept me company. He was really vocal last night.

The cats are planning to keep me inside. Lol

Just before bed last night Banjo called me to the door.

It was too chilly for Froggie to be out.

But ears back and a disgusted expression told me, it wasn’t what she hoped.

She called Whistle over too.

And he came right up to the glass.
972CC18D-2369-4E4C-A1D0-7CB4E92656FF.jpeg

He’s got his winter fluff on now. He watched the kitties with a friendly expression. :) I took him a little snack afterwards to get him away from the door. He seems nice but I’d hate to accidentally step on him in the dark.o_O

Mom, Banjo called me to the door! I want to see!

It has ears! I think Banjo laughed!
2F1EC407-5F0A-4374-B794-227441DFC497.jpeg

I hate to admit it but I smiled a little too at the expression Whistle had. Poor Whistle! I tired telling him that possum looks pretty cuddly but he’s not convinced. Maybe if the possum visits regularly, Whistle will get used to him. I’m sure that is what Banjo had in mind. :cringe:
:bicolorcat:

I’m going to head for bed early tonight to compensate for the hours of star watching! :thud:Lol

Have a great night everyone! :heartshape:
