Banjo called me to the front door tonight. I peeked out but did not see anything. I do have a lined box on the front porch with a bit of shelter in front of it. I thought I saw a cat out there some weeks ago but wasn’t sure. Not a black cat though.
What Banjo?

Someone is out there?!
AD846C64-C27A-4809-8B1F-CF6D8570B180.jpeg

Obviously she knew something was there. I didn’t want to make enough noise to scare any cat into the cold rain so I just have to keep an eye on things out there.

Whistle maintained his semi “Happy Tail” so I don’t think it was a possum or a bunny!
But..... maybe Whistle had some questions? Lol question tail and expression?

What do you do when the kitties decide it’s bedtime? Lol

I think I’m getting their ,” why are you waking us up?” look.

Okay! Leaving and turning out the lights! Lol

Thrasher slept with me last night. It’s her turn. The kitties seem to have worked out their own schedule about taking turns. Thrasher must get another turn tonight!

Put the camera down and get ready for bed Mitsy?

If they can’t convince me one way, then try a different angle! I see you Mitsy and Kodiak!

Flowers is telling BJ how to get the lights turned out. Bonjure is right behind them.

Silly question! Lolololol Where are you going to squeeze in Muffin? You have a better idea?

I love how Muffin likes to sleep. She always likes to put one paw tucked at the side of her face. I’d like to sleep that relaxed!

Guard the house Banjo! :bicolorcat:

I’m going to try and find my way out of the kitties to get ready for bed! Taking the hint!
Have a relaxed night everyone! :heartshape:

rubysmama rubysmama rubysmama rubysmama I am still trying to figure out what was outside in that photo. I was looking out a rain blurred glass when I took the photo and saw that possum looking but thought it was looking at a younger possum nearer to me. When I looked at the photo , I too saw what appeared to be a black cat. I blew it up and it seemed that I could see the edge of the tarp through it though. I really don’t know if it was a shadow, cat or what! Lol It was a real question. I had taken a second photo a few seconds later but I still can determine what it was. :dunno: A fur real mystery. Lol
This is the one I posted but blown up.
It does kinda look like a cat shape, but kinda doesn't. A mystery, fur sure. :catman:

rubysmama rubysmama I didn’t see the black shadow cat? again yet. I suppose that mystery is one of those questionable things that, “ Only the Shadow knows!” ;)

:kitty:
M maggiedemi Muffin did look sweet! I know she would be quick to snuggle you! She’s saving you the sofa.

I saw a toy today that I couldn’t resist. It could be considered a spring but it’s actually more of a Slinky toy. At rest it’s a coil but if someone grabs it then it stretches out. I wasn’t sure what the kitties would think once they saw it moving. A spring or a strange snake?

I tried it in the girls room first.

Bj! :flail:How do you do that? You’re the only cat I know who would walk around with a spring on his head and like it!

I thought you said it’s a hat?
E4334FDC-6BB6-4D32-8A0A-5FED13C9349E.jpeg

:flail:Dear sweet BJ! He kept the “hat” for another several minutes before it slid off. I have no idea how he managed to balance that as long as he did but it seemed effortless on his part. Effortless, but he was totally aware it was there. He didn’t give me ,”the look” until I started laughing. So sorry BJ! You looked very handsome! Dr. Suess must have known a cat like BJ. Maybe I need to see if Whistle prefers it as a hat. Like father, like son? :) Nah..... can’t possibly be two cats that like hats! Can there? This is the most unusual bunch of kitties! Maybe it’s time to buy BJ a real hat.
I hope you smiled as much as I did! Cats are full of surprises. Like that box of chocolates that Forrest Gump talked about, “ya never know what you’re gonna get.”
Have a wonderful night everyone!! Time to rest my eyes now!

I had to check the cheat sheet to attempt to name the 3 black beauties, and it didn't help, as there's 4 of them. So who didn't show up? Dolly? Purry? Smokey? Bonjure?

Bj! :flail:How do you do that? You’re the only cat I know who would walk around with a spring on his head and like it!

rubysmama rubysmama and M maggiedemi Wow! Amazing that you both thought of that. Indeed, Smokey is a gray kitty. In low light she looks dark though. High light shows off her silver. Getting all the black boys in one shot is a rare thing. Lol

That unicorn horn is hilarious. I think BJ would probably love it! :flail: You know, I was thinking about his feral days and he liked stuff on his head then too. Where did this cat get these ideas? Lol He’s so sweet and so funny!

Looking back at those two pics...it really does look like a very boney black cat. Unless the wind was fairly strong that night and blew the tarp around, it changed positions. And if that skinny thing I see is the neighbor's cat, then the neighbor's cat needs to become YOUR cat. Jes' sayin'.

For the babies and their new toy:

AND CATS, TOO!

Mamanyt1953 Mamanyt1953 I have left a message for the neighbor. I know she has a black cat. They live on her porch!:disappointed: They do have some open outbuildings too but she lives with her brother and he does not love cats. I hope I hear back from her. There was a time I was feeding the black one and thinking it was needing a home. When the neighbor discovered we were “sharing” the cat she got her chipped. I had already named her Molasses. Since I “discussed” Molasses, she seemed to get good care and no longer came to eat. I have gotten updated photos at times but.....
All this happened back during the first colony and near the time I brought Purry in with some others. I’ve always wondered if the colony originated there. She claims that it didn’t. Another neighbor called animal control about her when she wasn’t getting cats spayed or neutered but was feeding and drawing in every creature in the area. She was drawing in other people’s pets. I don’t fault her for feeding but once I gave her the contacts to TNR, she could have done something more to help them. I actually had to rescue a kitten from their place that was without a Mom. I helped them catch it and then they refused to take it. :argh:This is one of those situations where you want to do something but if the cat is claimed, you have a problem. I will feed it if I see it and take it in to be checked for a chip.

I have information about another colony some miles away. I have sent info to the “owner.” I’ve offered help. They feel they can care for them right now but I have serious doubt TNR is taking place. I’ve already talked to the TNR county group so they can offer help if anyone reports the cats. Paws crossed that they are okay. I’m doing what I can to offer protection.

rubysmama rubysmama I’d love to know how the treat toy that you made for Ruby works. I could use something like that around here! Lol

For anyone interested, there is a photo of it in this months contest. Contest - Picture of the Month: November 2019 - Cats with Home-made things

I always try to contribute a photo to the contest for fun. This month it includes something your cat plays with that is handmade. Lol My kitties tend to wear out anything handmade around here. The toys also vanish. Lol I have some handmade blankets and things but they are mostly put away to be preserved. Bringing 100 cats through taught me that. I do have an old macrame plant Hager that the kitties play with so I thought I would try to catch them in action. Yeah..... you can’t pose a cat! This is what happened.

Banjo had it but wasn’t actively playing with it. Awww! Banjo!

None of the kitties have managed to get the beads off yet. This shows why our handmade toys don’t last long around here. I guess the old macrame cord is pretty tough. Lol I must have made it twenty years or more ago. I think we are getting our moneys worth out of the cord and time I invested in making it. No telling where it will turn up next! I didn’t get any truly great photos but we definitely had a lot of fun. Maybe I’ll make some new macrame toys. Does anybody ever macrame anymore? Makes good cat toys!

Have a great night everyone! :heartshape:

It's a homemade version of Catit Senses 2.0 Digger Interactive Treat Cat Toy - Walmart.com

I used the cardboard tray from Ruby's cat food, and bought some duct tape. Then I used yogurt, applesauce, hummus containers for the cups. The yogurt ones work best, as they're deep enough that Ruby needs to dig the treats out with her paw. The others she can just stick her face in and get them that way. Here's some pics.

It just is beyond me...they have TNR available and won't, and I'm desperate for TNR, and my city just DOES NOT WANT IT...they want the cats gone. Working on it.

LOVE those pictures!!! From BOTH of you. There's something about a macrame stringy (Hek is fond of her stringies), and that puzzle box is just genius! My friend, Danielle, gets "black market" applesauce cups from a friend who works in the school system (they are supposed to throw them away, but the workers bring them home), and she gives me several a week. I'll have to save them up and try my hand at that...the macrame is beyond me!

The neighbors don't appear to be feeding their cat anymore. He looks so skinny! Usually he runs away when I try to talk to him through the window, but today he cried to me. I don't know what to do. I can't afford another cat and the neighbors hate us because my dad reported them to the cops for burning trash. I put out a little dry food, but he didn't come back. I'll try again tomorrow. I really can't afford another cat though. I wish I could win the lottery. :(

rubysmama rubysmama I love the toy AND the pictures of Ruby with the toy! You obviously made her very happy! I’ll have to try and find similar things in order to make one here. Thank you for showing us how you did it. Ingenious! :clap2: I love the design of the print too. It’s so cute!

Furballsmom Furballsmom Bonjure is a funny boy. It always makes me laugh when he hangs over the side of things. Melted kitty! Thrasher couldn’t figure out why the string was being pulled away from under the chair. Pretty sneaky Bonnie! She did get it back though. Kitty tug of war!

M maggiedemi It is nice to have a rainbow of kitties. Their personalities are as varied as their colors. I can always use some help giving pets though!
A little dry food for the neighbor cat will help it. I bet it will come back to eat. You don’t have to own it to help it. You could try to make friends with the neighbor if they aren’t bad. Let them know that you are not your Dad. How do they know your Dad called on them anyway?

Mamanyt1953 Mamanyt1953 That toy is a great idea. As for the macrame, it’s just tying lots of knots. Lots and lots of knots. Lol If you just learn the half hitch you can make the cording do lots of things. Of course, tying knots with long pieces of string does draw kitties. Hek would “help!”
 As furballsmom suggested, there are kits.

Well..... it finally happened. Although it isn’t tailored to fit, since it was made of the same fibric as the shirt I used to leave for BJ to sleep on when we first met, I couldn’t resist. BJ gets a surprise.

What has Mom got BJ?

It matches my cat catching shirt BJ.

The girls are gonna love me in this.

It’s snuggly under here.

It’s kind of like sleeping under the “falling star” tree.

Can we keep this?

The hat will always be yours BJ. Let’s take it off for your nap though.

Okay but I’m going to sleep on it. :cloud9:

Okay. I knew BJ liked stuff on his head but this was really sweet. I think it reminds him of being under the leaves of the trees and maybe of the khaki shirt I wore whoever working with him. For any who didn’t see his feral days, BJ loved to stay snuggled up to his favorite tree or under the edge of a fence. His first close exposure to me was when I left my shirt for him to sleep on and to get used to my scent.

I guess he always was a “cat in the hat” kind of kitty.
Love you BJ! :catlove:

I hope everyone else smiled along with BJ. I did. I just wish I had associated his love of having leaves over his head with his love of having other things on his head. Lol I totally “get it “ now. For him, it’s a happy memory.

Have a great night of happy memories everyone! :heartshape:

It is nice to have a rainbow of kitties.
I like that. A kitty rainbow. I would love to have one someday. 🌈🐈

How do they know your Dad called on them anyway?
The cop told him! Right to know I guess. I can Google and try to find their address and write them a letter. I don't know the house number. If it wasn't so cold out, I would go look at their mailbox or try to talk to them while they are getting their mail. I'm just not well enough to do much. I can't trap him or lift him. I can't drive him to the vet in this weather. I can't afford it either. I can give him dry food and hope he makes it until spring, when maybe I can help him more. :(

Making biscuits under a hat!
Nice hat BJ. I would probably wear that. 😎
