Ok, now, keeping in mind that BJ already had my heart from the word go, (thank you jcatbird!! for having done all that hard work leading up to these moments :worship: ) but the second to last picture above, oh my GOODNESS
That picture of BJ really showed anticipation! Somehow I missed this post from you but thank you for the back pat! I think BJ did the real work though. How could I ever resist a face like that? He just :vibes::redheartpump: all over the place! He already earned every bit of love he gets, and then some!

Looking forward to the next installment of "The Adventures at Chez Catbird". :catman:
My cat alarms got set off!

Oh, Whistle! It's ok, NOBODY is mad...who could be mad at that pitiful face?
I love the expressions! He looked like his conscience was bothering him. Poor little Whistle. He’s such a good kitty. He did get to keep the ham! He played with it for another hour after I reassured him it was okay. I think he would have continued but we had visitors show up outside that changed the atmosphere.

I had a window open a few inches and we all heard a very strange noise! If you look it up online you can hear it too. I’ll tell you details at the closing of this post.

First I’ll tell you what the cats thought about it.

Lady got my attention quickly!

She landed in my lap like a fur bomb!

Bj is still a hero cat! He wanted to get us all to a safe place. Mom included. It touched my heart that , as he tried to get the Clowder to safety, he came for me as well.
Dolly and some of the others have been inside long enough to understand that the threat would not enter but I ended up with my arms full of kitties, cats underneath me and kitties scattering around the house! We had two Barred Owls just outside the window. If you’ve never heard all the different calls they make you really should go online and listen! It started with a repeated bark or Monkey-like call raw, raw, raw! Then it became a screech and finally a Who’s cooking for you?!?!? Who’scooking for you all?!?!? These owls are the largest around here and extremely loud! The sound echoed through the swamp beside us. If you were in the swamp and did not know what you were hearing, it would be really doooky! Lol Even with the window closed and the TV going we could hear them. They are beautiful birds and amazing to watch, unless you are a kitty. The owls usually eat lots of bugs. Frogs, lizards and mice but they could take something like a kitten. Maybe even a cat if it were really hungry. BJ used his feral experience to try and call the other cats to safety. He did get Flowers and some of the smaller cats to follow him. Banjo, Whistle, Flowers, Lady and Bonjure were the most alarmed. I don’t think a cat as large as Bonjure would have been much at risk but he is the biggest baby in the house so he climbed up and put his paws around my neck until the owls left! :alright:
I was very amused that Banjo understood to lock the door even though she had fluffed out her tail. Brave Banjo! Whistle didn’t fluff but he did want me to close the window. He knew where the sound was coming from! Smart boy Whistle! After everyone calmed down, I went outside and could still hear the birds in the woods. Today I discovered a huge gift left on my van! Yuck! The owls left a calling card by the door! Heh! From cats bombing my lap to birds bombing my car! It was quite a night.
Bj forgave me. He did insist on sleeping stretched across me last night. I guess he figured that was the only way to protect me if I would hide. Sweet kitties! My alarm cats always tell me if anything is amiss. Thank you kitties.

Rest well everyone. You are guarded by alarm cats!:heartshape:

I looked up the barred owls online. They are beautiful but they are scary sounding.

That is exactly what we heard! Lol Maybe I should have turned down the volume on my phone though.

I got rushed!

Climbed upon.

They’re baaaaack! They’re inside your phone Mom!

Ooops! I’m sorry kitties!
9948020B-7F4F-4CFA-89D3-B815ECDF8C42.jpeg

Head bumps. I turned it off verrrry quickly!
That was a great recording of the owls. Awesome! I’m glad everyone can hear that and know what the kitties heard. That’s why we got fluff tails! I happen to love owls. As Furballsmom knows, a hundred years ago I raised an orphaned baby Screech owl for release. They are very small owls but it was raised where my cats could hear it at night. It wasn’t scary to them like the big owls are for these kitties. It was scary to my friends during slumber parties though.:flail:

Out in the Mojave there are several owl species. They are scary because they fly at night, very silently, and some are quite large so, along with the hawks, falcons and golden eagles there, they can take prey that is pretty large. My ex ran wires above our barn compound so there would be no danger from them. Traditionally they are bad omens for us.

Hmmm. Bad omens. Well, maybe they are trying to tell us something. Today was not one of my better days. This morning my phones worked fine. This afternoon someone tried to call with an emergency. My phones had ceased to work. Cell and landline. The call from
a friend was about her cat that needed help and she could not get me. By the time I got a message, it said...... don’t call me. It’s too late. She lost two cats this week. I feel awful that I was not there for her. Now she isn’t answering. This is the same friend that got flooded out this year, her Dads’ house got hit by a Tonado and she lost a third cat. :(
Maybe I need to learn Owl speak.

Wow. Those owls really are scary sounding. No wonder BJ was trying to protect his family. :catrub:
The owls startled me too. The sound really echoed through the woods. If I had kitties out there I would have been staying in the swamp all night. I’m so glad these are all safe now. I haven’t seen Velcro out there anymore either so I guess her family took my concerns seriously. My last message from them was that she is doing well and adjusting to the puppy being there. Good girl Velcro!

No owls tonight! I love seeing them but I’m glad the kitties weren’t scared again.

I think it could be smile time!
Last night I got up to check on the kitties. I was wondering if they were still nervous.
Have you ever wondered what your cats do after you turn out the lights? Unless I hear noises of playing( or fussing) I just figure the cats are laying around or napping. I know the ferals often hunt a bit at night so I know the kitties always snack a little. Sometimes I hear the crunch, crunch of some dry food. Last night I discovered another cat secret.

They try to hypnotize us.

You are getting sleepy Mom.

I watched all this in quick glimpses around the corner as I snapped pictures. I hadn’t seen everything. I started getting suspicious and when Whistle closed the box I got very curious. What on earth were they all doing?

I turned on the lights and the cats scattered.

I opened the box that I had left for them to lay in and ......whaaaaaaa?!?!?

EFD7EBFB-845B-47E4-A4F9-7C97360826F9.jpeg

I discovered they have their own supply of feral prey in the box!

Whistle! Banjo! I keep the toppers for sick kitties!

If you look back at the photo where Whistle is eating, you can see a broth package on the floor! It had enough little holes in it to drain the liquid out! I suspect broth was spread from the box, all the way to the supper dish! I can’t blame any one kitty though because it looks like they are all in on this! It’s a kitty caper! I bet Banjo is the one who got the broths out of the cabinet. Ha! I thought she was trying to help me with supper the night I caught this. She was actually looking for the midnight snacks!!
D5A50098-2EB2-4D69-BFFE-8392F4556AE8.jpeg

No wonder they were ready for me to go to bed! I thought I noticed Whistle was developing a little fat tummy! :flail: I found an empty broth package under the piano today. The box in the cabinet is missing some more. I wonder how long this has been going on and where did they stash the rest?

I guess the kitties do own everything! They really put one over on me with this! Never a dull moment in a house full of feral and rescued cats. :p
Lock up your cat treats everyone and have a great night! :sleepycat:

Oh, yeah. They know where everything is and they know how to get it. Our angel Seesh used to gnaw tiny holes in the corners of the big bags of dry food we used to buy. I'd have to duct tape them and store them out of her reach.
I am so very sorry for your friend -- my heartfelt condolences for her losses. I hope she and her surviving loved ones are okay now. I keep the landline for a couple of reasons, one being that if for any reason I don't have cell service, I might still have landline. That would be scary if they both went down. I climb the walls when I have tech issues. I guess it's the closest thing I have to "panic attacks" which I had to ask someone about since I didn't understand what this meant.
And yes, the omens. Members of other species experience life on a much heightened level of sensitivity. Some of us do, too. I have what is commonly referred to as "the sight" and unlike the stereotyped version of this, it is not something I regard as good. It has always been like an early warning system letting me know someone is going to pass. I have had it for the last few days about Grumpy Cat (Tardar Sauce) and pushed it away as I always do when I get these messages, because I do not want them. Today I see that she did pass on the 14th. I hate getting these warnings. But there is nothing I can do about them.

I completely understand about the intuitive nature. That early warning system is unpleasant. I’m sorry it happens to you that way. I tend to think of it as a way to prepare us for what is happening or coming. There must be a purpose for it. I did not know that Grumpy cat passed. That’s sad news.

Our kitties are so smart. They do know where the food sources are. Mine opened a large bag of food yesterday! I had kibbles all over the place. Once the corner is open it’s free food for all! Cat party time. :banana1:I think they enjoy it more when they open the package themselves!:woohoo:

I'm sorry for being the one to bring you that sad news, Jcatbird Jcatbird .
Yes, I think a lot of us enjoy things more when they're, as my mom used to say, 'liberated' :insertevillaugh:
Yeah, some people think it's a gift to make money off of. Tell people they're going to have a great future. That's not EVER the kind of message I get, and I've had these too many times not to know they are credible. I don't know how they work, only THAT they work. But I get other ones like, that someone is going to contact me, and the next thing I know, they do. In my family we'd say "Your ears must be burning". Those are the more positive ones. But I never get messages like "You're going to make a lot of money and marry the person of your dreams and live in a wonderful place." :sigh:

I looked up the barred owls online. They are beautiful but they are scary sounding.

I shall now go and haul Hekitty out from under the bed.

I once saw clouds that looked like numbers. It struck me and I told a friend that I knew the numbers for the 3digit lottery tickets. They did buy a ticket. They won 250 dollars that night! Lol I don’t play the lottery but that was a very interesting coincidence. I guess it was meant for the friend.

:lol2:

I'm so sorry, I hope you're able to connect and that her awful run of bad luck ends :vibes::crossfingers: :alright:
I did get my friend today. I was able to pass on some information that helped a little. That was all I could do.

I do have cat burglars. They are so smart! Each day is a new adventure with them. They keep me laughing.

Banjo is learning a new skill! Here is our smile!

I’m dealing with an earache and some sinus trouble. If I’m not on tomorrow, it just means I had to go in for some meds. I’ll be back though!

I only get that feeling when it's like a celebrity. Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Frank Zappa, Curt Cobain and yes just the other day I thought "I wonder how Grumpy Cat is." And then I hear of her passings. I too hate these kind of warnings and it makes me wary of even thinking or talking about celebrities. I never have these warning signs with people I know.

She landed in my lap like a fur bomb!
Awww, wish I was there to catch my pretty little Lady. :redheartpump:

Have you ever wondered what your cats do after you turn out the lights?
I don't have to wonder what Demi is doing. He makes sure I know it. :eek2:

Whistle! Banjo! I keep the toppers for sick kitties!
Demi & Maggie love those soups, but they are expensive for a treat. I wish they would make them a complete meal.

panic attacks
I get those. Not fun. :fear:

once saw clouds that looked like numbers. It struck me and I told a friend that I knew the numbers for the 3digit lottery tickets. They did buy a ticket. They won 250 dollars that night!
Ummm. Can you do that for me, except for the Mega Millions?
