Hey guys my 7 year old cats pregnant & this is her first & only pregnancy. The last 2 days she's been really weak and sleeping constantly in one spot she hasn't been eating only drinking water her bed was wet last night and all down her leg as if her water had broken she laid on her bed on my bed and looked as if she was having a couple contractions then she went back to sleep she went to the toilet a couple hours later and it was pinkish blood she urinated. I've rung my vet and explained all this to them & they told me it sounds like she's getting ready for labour? Is it normal for a cat to stop eating for 2 days before birth? She's not even interested in anything I try to give her. Also her urinating pinkish blood doesn't seem normal to me?Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

The situation is of course touchy, even if we do hope its OK. Not least, she is a little too old for a first timer. Even if I know of 8 year old first timers...

Do you know how experienced is the vet? Well experienced with obstetrics? Is he specialist on cats? If not;

Playing safe, I would recommend cesarean here; because of as you describe it. I do usually recommend to wait it out in 19 of 20. Here it may be the 20th... I feel uneasy.

If you dont afford or by any other reason cant or dont want to go forward with cesarean, make sure she gets calcium rich food. ASAP! Goats milk, youghurt, kmr, or finely crushed egg shells sprinkled on her food. Whatever she takes. Lack of calcium may give weak labor. (the quickest is if the vet gives a calcium shot; but I know some vets are reluctant, and advise to give such calciumrich food mentioned).

Also, get home goats milk or kmr, if you will need to handfeed the kittens.

If momma is exhausted you can always give her some glucose sugar; it gives quick energhy. You may put some drop on the gum, inside of the lips.
In USA it will typically be white caro syrup or honey as its difficult to find glucose sugar / dextrose proper in USA.

This is very concerning! I agree with StefanZ StefanZ . She’s old for bearing kittens and her water breaking and being weak are not good signs. She may have an infection as well. Or she may have dystocia, which is a failure to produce strong enough contractions to deliver the kittens. Please get her to the vet right away for a C-section or there is a chance she will lose her kittens and/or her life.

Keep us posted!

I’m sorry she already lost two kittens; it sounds like she may lose her own life soon if she does not receive emergency medical intervention. It should not cost nearly that much - $800-$1,000 at the most. Ask for a payment plan and start a Go Fund Me. Apply for a Care Credit Card. Most importantly, mom needs medical help ASAP. Please keep us posted.

It's through an emergency vet and they quoted me that much I feel like I don't have enough time to make a go fund me account as the vet said she had to have it today I have owned her since I was 15 I'm 22 now she's literally like my child I don't know what I will do if she passes away I rang a vet the other day and they said everything sounded normal and she was just getting ready for labour I'm kicking myself now that I didn't ignore his advice and take her in. I have managed to find an appointment at a low cost clinic in my area and they offer payment plans so I'm keeping my fingers crossed everything goes smoothly. Thank you everyone for your replies I sincerely appreciate you all!

None of the other kittens made it she had 5 total I took her to the overnight vet care and they let me know that her liver was failing and there was nothing they could do she had to be put to sleep they couldn't tell me exactly what had caused it but said that she could of been suffering with it for days even a couple weeks last night was one of the hardest things ive had to do in my life. They let me see her and she honestly looked fine she was in an oxygen chamber and was purring enjoying head scratchest theysaid they gave her alot of medication to make her look presentable so I didn't see her suffering. Her body was taken to a pets cremation place this morning so I can get her ashes back. I'm really upset with the first vet I went to as they did the cesarion but couldn't tell me she had a failing liver? I'm devastated and my other cat is heart broken.

This is my baby Moo Moo

Im deeply sorry for this.... Truly... The worst possible outcome...

And yes, Its good to have the ashes at home. I and wife we do have the ashes of our Ancestors. I feel they are giving us their protection, us humans and our residents living with us now... They do behave almost exactly as their Ancestors....

If you wish, write up a Memory for Moo Moo in our Crossing the Bridge forum.

And for yourself? Perhaps adopt a cat from a high kill shelter. NOT instead of Moo Moo; but as compensation in the name of her; so Moo Moo´s suffering and death wont be in wain: You couldnt save Moo Moo whatever you did, her fate was sealed. But you can save another cat or dog... Just by adopting it.

Warm hugs!

Oh nooooo.....my heart breaks for you as well as for your other kitty. Such a tragedy to lose not only the kittens but Moo-moo as well. You loved her enough to let go, just as I loved my "baby boy & right-hand man" Lance enough to have him put down yesterday....they were given the final gift of a quick, easy passing. 💕🙏
