Wow that's a young kitten, it must be very new to your household. I think your adult cat is doing fine, cats don't tend to love each other at first sight.

Your adult cat and your kitten have very different energy levels and I doubt your kitten has been with it's mother long enough to be fully socialised by her. It's great that your adult cat isn't being aggressive with the kitten.

Don't force your adult cat to be near the kitten, but remember that your adult cat requires your attention as well. You may have to seek it out, though.

You need to separate the kitten for a few days, and give it a safe room. They will need to be slowly introduced. Cats rarely welcome newcomers easily.

Have you had the new kitten for long? I had a similar situation recently and my best advice to you is give it time! First separate the two for a few days like Aislinn suggested and slowly introduce them. My older cat was actually scared of the two new kittens! She kept hissing and growling at them. It has been a little over two weeks now and although they're not best friends, yet, today my older cat is very tolerating and she started, reluctantly, playing with them! So again, give it time. :)
