My cat is so misunderstood

Not really, but I got a laugh recently when setting up an appt. with the vet for his next shot(s). He's been to this vet a few times since I got him, and he's been a bit of an a-hole every time. I gave the woman helping me his name and she pulled his info to get the appt. squared away. I explained that he could be 'problematic', and after a pause, she started chuckling. I asked why, and she told me that one of the staff had annotated his file with the following:
"he will kill you and eat your soul"

Wow, harsh. And she'll see him on Tues. .

He sounds like a blood-brother to my late Magnus, whose last earthly act after 22 years of mayhem and a stroke was to slash the poor vet who came to euthanise him!

So jealous you got the inside scoop on what the staff think of your cat! I always hoped mine were civilized and decent, but you never know what goes on behind the scenes. I am sure cats often think they’re misunderstood and boy, are they good at letting us know it!

dont feel bad yet or stress until your cat makes the black list to get banned for any more biting and clawing might wanna ask if its ok for you to be inside during the visit to hold your cat so none of the staff get bit or ask for sedation thats what i need to do with graycie cost a bit more but its less stress for all

I think I remember the visit that got him his rep. 2nd visit, maybe 3mos old. A tech came in and did the 'aww, cute kitty' thing while quickly reaching a hand out to pet him. He was having none of that. His paw/claws went for that hand, multiple shots faster than you can blink. Along with the hiss and flat ears. She jumped back, saving her hand . I might be exaggerating a bit, but not by much. It's funny now.

I was with him, and another tech was already there as well. I think he was overwhelmed by the additional person, and I don't blame him. I've been using this doc/facility for my cats for 17 yrs. If he tells me he thinks sedation is necessary for visits/treatment, I'll consider it. Otherwise, I ain't drugging my cat, just sayin . He'll be seen tomorrow, and meet a potential cat sitter, and we'll see what's what.

Well, Viffer is going to retain his reputation, I'm afraid. He was no more laid back today at the vet than on previous visits. The tech had me put him on the scale to weigh him, and then went to prepare his shots. We thought he might actually do better w/o me present for those, so the doc took him back in his carrier. The doc said it wasn't too bad, he was able to give the shots, check the teeth, and listen to the heart, around just some growling and hissing. The idea of drugging him didn't come up. He's a healthy 12.5lbs (top of the weight range for his medium frame, diet!)of joy .

I reminded the doc that Viffer was found on a farm at maybe a few days old, if that. No mother, dead sibling nearby. The family I got him from did the bottle feeding and weaning. Doc said then he wasn't surprised at the behavior, he has seen many kittens 'raised' by people exhibit peculiar behavior. Not ideal but often necessary to save the kitten(s). And, he said he's had to deal with worse, so there's that. C'mon, does this look like a 'killer cat':

That’s exactly what it looks like. I’m quite familiar with that feline ruse.

When we take Belle to the vet, I do all the handling. Less stress for Belle. Safer for the vet and his staff.

Belle did surprise me during her last visit. She let the assistant handle her, giving her nothing more than laid back ears and a dirty look. I did warn her to NOT scruff Belle. Any attempt and Belle will bite to the bone quick as lightning.

Blimey, that's worse than Magnus ever was! Though it's the norm here to be in with one's pet during a consultation anyway. I've never been to a clinic where owners didn't go in.

Reminds me of Katie! Not that she got fierce in general, but pilling her was another matter. She was small (maybe 4kg), lean, lightweight, long-legged and so strong! Try to pill her and there'd be flailing claws everywhere. I could never manage it, and I remember our vet saying "You can't pill this cat!" (My response: "I know, Doug, that's why I bring her hereto see if you guys can!") Eventually a vet joined the practice who was really tall and had incredibly long arms, and he was the only person who managed to manoeuvre a pill-popper into her throat without getting shredded - and we heard later he'd been boasting about being the only person to pill Katie D.

I remember when we took Casper in fro his shot.( in my avatar). First the woman assist., then the vet, then the vet AND an assist., then those two AND my husband and no one could get the deworming pill down him! They had blood all over their arms! finally, I took the pill home, hoisted his front legs off the ground by his scruff and forced the pill into his mouth. He finally swallowed it after two tries. What an ordeal! I heard the vet muttering as we left, "I have NEVER not been able to pill a cat!" I guess there is always that first one. That has been the only way we could ever pill him or give him liquid meds.

All these stories and memories make me very grateful P&D aren't hard to pill, since they each have two pills a day!

I give three medicine and supplements every morning and two their prednisolone at 5. Thank goodness they are food driven and take them in lickable treats and pill pockets!

So, to be clear, my vet does allow folks to be with their pets. Recall that I stated this was an experiment to see if he did better w/o me around. Analogous to kids who behave better for others, as opposed to their parents .

I was thinking more of how many people on the site mention it as the norm with their vets!
