My cat has been throwing up to the point of dry-heaving and won't eat or drink. She just lays around. We don't have money to take her to the vet. Anyone have any idea of what to do?

How long has she been sick like this? If it's been longer than a day, she really needs a vet. You can ask the vet to do a physical exam and treat the symptoms without doing all the dianostic tests to keep the costs down. See if your vet has any type of payment plan or apply for Care Credit.

Cats can't go long without eating without risking
fatty liver disease, and the vomiting is probably
going to make her dehydrated. If she doesn't start eating or drinking on her own, there is something wrong that needs treatment. It could be an obstruction, something toxic, etc. Please try to take her to a vet.

You could buy some time by forcefeeding her pedialyte.

But it is really a necessary vet errand, like said above. so pedialyte not instead of visiting vet, but in waiting for the asap-visite...  You want to stop the dehydration.

Make also sure she is warm and comfortable.

You make basic pedialyte by

1 litre water,

2 soup spoons (18 gram) of dextrose (glucose sugar) or some other sugar.

1 tea spoon (3g) of kitchen salt.

You can also use  rice water after well boiled rice, + 3 g salt.

Drop slowly in the corner of the mouth, while the cat is lying on tummy, head a little up.

As said, you do it waiting for the vet visit, and between visits. This will NOT be enough.

Try to lend money to pay the vet.

Good luck!

We cannot tell you what is wrong with your cat.  Many, many things could be wrong.  None of them good.

I know vets are expensive but there are payment plans, care credit...www.carecredit.com.  Find a vet that belongs to it.  You can use the same day you apply for it.  You can apply right in the vets office also.

Please, your kitty depends on care from you.  Don't let her down.

She is getting X-rays done today and surgery. They think she ate a string and it is caught in her intestines. Thanks, everyone!
