My mama passed on 1/4/2021 this yr
How do I honor or celebrate mother's day without my mama here
I know how to do it with my kids even though im grieving terribly
But how do I celebrate mother's day for my mama
Never had to do this of course
Anyone going through this this yr or been through this before
Have any advice or ideas??
My ❤ is bleeding for my mama

My mother is still with me, but I know on Mother's day I bring her a small gift, like certain chocolate she likes, some chips, etc. When she passes I will continue to do so as I do my grandmothers who are gone, but something that is appropriate. A small bouquet of flowers, especially from your own garden, is nice, or if you own your home, plant a tree, shrub, or perennial in their name. Or get a plant for an apartment. I have a small lantern-type solar light near my cat's graves, it changes colors at night, and every time I look out the window I think of them. I brought a small angel solar light in memory of my dad, If you can't leave it at the gravesite, put it in your own yard and I can guarantee you will think of your loved one when you see that light at night.....

Please see this thread: Grieving. This is about grieving a cat (it is The Cat Site after all), but grieving is grieving; the same general rules apply.

I lost my mother a few years ago. There's a poem I've found comforting when thinking of my mother's death: Beannacht - Gratefulness.org The author, John O'Donohue, wrote it for his own mother when she was dying. On Mother's Day, her birthday, the anniversary of her death, and similar times I like to read this poem out loud and talk to her about it, as if she were here to hear me. I tell her that I hope this is how it was for her, and that I still love her, and I miss her, but that I'll be okay. That last bit may not feel true right now, but it is true no matter what it feels like. My mother gave me a good foundation for living, and that didn't die when she did.

Think about something small she liked to do. Did she like feeding the ducks? Go for a walk and feed some ducks and appreciate the happiness she brought to the world.

Although I'm just a stranger, I can say that she'd be very proud of you just getting through the day. Losing a parent is one of the hardest things to go through. It's good that you feel this grief for her; it's a sign of how much of a positive impact she made on you, and will continue making on you.

Good luck, and don't go on social media on mother's day; it's filled with crap you won't want to look at. <3

My mother is gone also but one thing you can do for your mom is carry on a tradition that was important to her. I do that for both of my parents who have passed and I hope one day my children will follow in my footsteps. My heartfelt sympathies go out to you on the loss of your mother. :hugs:

I lost my mum when I was a child. Me and my dad took flowers on mother's day to her grave, when I was young. The first mother's day when I was a mum my dad asked what I was doing up early and getting my son ready to go out. I told him going to see mum. He told me that mum didn't need me to go out with my baby in the rain, she needed me to enjoy my mother's day.He took my flowers to her grave,he also had chocolate for me to enjoy. So on mother's day I enjoy my day and go to mum's grave the Sunday after with flowers and tell her about my day and how proud she would be of her grandkids.

I lost my Mother last year, too. And I could not come home to see her.

To honor her on Mother's Day I will definitely drive around (with my hubby as I cannot drive) and catch any stray cat or dog I find. You see, my Mom was the greatest influence in my life as to why I became an animal lover. At an early age she introduced me to dogs, cats, parrots, ducks, carabaos, pigs, monkeys, etc. She used to rescue homeless animals too. So that is my idea for this coming Mother's Day, and of course light a candle for her.

My mother is long gone, and at my age that's expected. But I have my own reasons for finding mothers' day difficult. I tend to look on it as an 'artificial' day that has been highly commercialised. So, like misty8723 misty8723 , I just let it go.
I'm so very sorry for your loss. :hugs:

Your mother sounds like a wonderful person. I'm sorry for your loss.

My mother passed away six years ago and I never had any children of my own. Mother's Day means nothing to me and I get so tired about hearing so much hype about it every year.
