I’ve been fostering for a few years now, and it seems like the momma cats that give birth in my house get a little depressed around 4-5 weeks after birth. Does anyone notice this too? I’m also thinking this has to be a depressing change for most of them- typically we pull cats from animal control that have been living outside. At my house they are stuck inside one bedroom (because I have my own animals) and can’t leave.

I agree. That is the age when kittens begin to leave the nest and explore, and mom is healed and begins to nurse less. The mom is ready for a break and a change of scenery. They are, of course, better off in the room than outside, but they will be even better off adopted into a loving home with whole house access! I think it’s important that they have a window to look out while confined to one room, so setting up a table under a window is a good idea. Extra attention and treats help as well.

Thank you for fostering! :)
