Hi all , I'm just new to this site. I am an experienced cat owner but of a male of 17 and a half years. So, around 2 months ago we adopted female just over a year with her kitten of ten weeks. Everything more or less has been fine up until now. The kitten has been nursing with her when Mum allows even though she's now four and a half months.
She has literally just come back from the vet yesterday having been spayed and now Mum is acting really horribly towards her. Spitting hissing even cuffing her. I was really surprised when kitten went for spaying mum didn't even seen bothered that she wasn't there anymore.
Upon her return it seemed that she regarded her kitten as a stranger. I don't know if it's because the kitten smells differently because it's been to the vet.... However having read all of your replies, I can see that it's not particularly odd for the mum cat to be reacting this way. I wonder if anyone had used any of the calming plugins ? I think it's something I'm going to consider mum cat is still very friendly with us but has just taken a huge dislike to her kitten. It's so sad when they seem to be so close before. Any ideas could be most welcome 🙏
