What a little cat soul, that photo is so sweet, thank you for sharing it. ❤ Almost 20 years is a whole lot to process, and like the others, I had to read the title to this several times. “Stop all the clocks”— W.H. Auden.

I am just seeing this now, and my heart is breaking for you.
I've enjoyed hearing about Mooch's stories over the years and the photos you've shared. It was clear the love was there between the two of you.
20 years is amazing, and you have a lot of memories to cherish.
RIP Sweet Mooch

I don't know how I missed this MoochNNoodles MoochNNoodles . I am so sorry for your loss of the beautiful Mooch. Twenty years is a long time but having cats that have lived that long it is still not enough time. Plus in twenty years you experience so many different life events with them.I hope your son is doing as well as can be expected at a time like this. We just saw your son's wonderful Christmas gifts featuring Mooch. I hope your and your family find peace and comfort in your wonderful memories of Mooch.

Where my cats are
DS is doing ok. We decided to take some time off school this week. (That can be a source of stress for him and myself.) DD is doing a few subjects but that was her choice. I know I’m drained so I think its good for everyone to step back and rest. He has been watching kitten cams on YouTube like normal. I asked if he was studying to get ready for kittens around here. Mooch is irreplaceable and we all know that. But the desire for more has been in our hearts a long time so I dont know how long we will wait. The cat distribution system left a 4/5 month old on a friend’s neighbors back deck in this cold snap. So we’ll see.

My kids were younger then your when the cat we had when they were born died. They knew something was wrong but I am sure your kids feel it more. Glad your son is doing ok and seems that your daughter is staying busy to help deal with the loss. I don't believe there is a general best time to get another cat that is up to an individual or family. I myself find living in a ' empty ' house very difficult. We know we cannot replace our precious cat with another and wouldn't what to.That does not mean we cannot give another cat in need of a home .... a much needed home and love. We also may ease that pain in our heart just a little. Continued best wishes for you and your family's healing from Mooch's loss.

I cannot write this kind of thing twice; so I will just share an edited version of what I put on my social media:

Mooch crossed the bridge yesterday. She just couldn’t rally one more time. 5 weeks from turning 20… 🥺

Her labs showed she was declining and had gone from good to poor quickly. So we let her go. Almost 20 years…. Thats nearly half my life and the kids have never known life without her. She called; DS always came even if I scolded him because we were doing schoolwork. He became “her boy.” 😢

She’s been my lap buddy since DH’s deployment days. My chatterbox. Even yesterday she was talking with us while she felt so poorly. She was trying.

I just want to scream I want my baby back…😭 Even though I’d never want to make her stay with the way she was the night before. I spent most of the night awake nearby.

Coming home without her…she’s everywhere. From the tray of meds with prescriptions I just refilled, the half can of food in the fridge, the stash on the counter from trying to get her to eat, the beds, puppy pads, steps to the couch and especially…her empty chair. A senior cat house for sure.

My baby, my Mooch. Anything less than forever feels cruel. It feels like there are not words to properly express my love for her; my soul-kitty. Or my grief trying to come through terms with saying goodbye.

I love you Moochie. 🖤🤍💜💔

The pain is so sharp when you love them so much and they have been with you for so long. These special kitties tear your heart out when they have to leave.

I understand completely and I know you want your children to feel there's another furry feline in their future too. i also felt Carleton was irreplaceable which is why when DH wanted to start looking for another cat at shelters I kept telling him not yet, if ever. But when I realized I had been in a funk just like you taking time off school this week with your son I instantly knew what was missing - a cat who was in need of a home. :lovecat2: Thinking of your family and you and sending special thoughts with hugs. :grouphug2:

Oh I am so sorry. It has been a tough, tough year for many of us long time members. I hadn’t checked here and when I saw your post about the three new babies I realized that Mooch was probably gone. Whether they go quickly or linger, it is still so painful and we are never prepared.

I hope that the new kittens bring some comfort to you and your family.

So true Kwik Kwik . They know what we need even when they leave us.It always amazes how a house feels suddenly lifeless when they're gone. Even Valentino who was super quiet left a major void. He was quiet but had a huge, lovely, warm, quirky presence
