Mommy cat has developed a good case of diarrhea. She did not eat her dinner last evening so I left her a lot of kibble which she inhaled over night.
I am also finding food she liked last week she doesn't like this week.
Any suggestions on the diarrhea? Is frequent changing of her wet food a good idea?
Thank you.

Hi. Is this a pregnant cat (I presume)? How far along is she? Is she showing any other signs (tiredness, for example)? Are you changing her food frequently because she chooses not to eat what you give her? Did the diarrhea only start after you started changing foods?

Lots of questions before answers might be applicable. Sorry, but we really could use more information.

No need to be sorry. She had her kittens August 8th. Since birth she was eating well with the exception of the last couple of days. She didn't eat her wet food Sunday so I put kibble down and she started gobbling it up. I left her extra kibble to make it through the night which she ate. This morning diarrhea. I started changing the food cause she wasn't eating the wet food. I didnt want her to become addicted to seafood. She also seems kind of sad. She was a stray and she has been inside since Aug 8. I think she is ready to explore.
Thank you for any advice.

Maybe go back to Square One and feed her kibble that she likes (if different from what you are feeding her now). Let her system 'recalibrate' before giving her new wet foods. Even give her the seafood that she was eating, if that didn't cause diarrhea, and she was eating it OK. Get her over nursing her kittens, and see how things go. I wouldn't change up her food if it is disrupting her system. She needs all the nutrients she can get while nursing, and too many food changes at one time can be disruptive.

Let her roam a bit (not outside), she will more than likely come back to take care of her kittens after she has had a chance to 'be free' for a few minutes. The kittens still need her, so she need not go too far away from them yet.

There are other members who are by far more experienced with stray mama cats that I hope will soon see your post and offer you help that I can't. They are on this site routinely, so be patient and check back often.

Once again I need the knowledge and experience of Members...

Tuesday I took the kittens and Mom to the Rescue for exam, vaccine, flea treatment and deworming. Since Wednesday Mom's eating has been reduced. Prev-visit she was eating 15 ounces of wet food and some kibble. Post visit she isn't even eating 2 ounces of wet food. She is eating some kibble. She is still nursing. The kittens will be 4 weeks on the 8th.

Is this going to work it's way out? I have contacted the Rescue and alerted them of the change.

Thank you!

If she received a vaccine or flea treatment or deworming meds, this is likely why she is feeling poorly and not eating well. Any of the above can affect a cat’s appetite for up to a few days. It’s putting a chemical or medication in or on her body that is affecting her. Give it a few days to run its course and she should be back to herself by then.

Thank you. She received all three. She is so thin to begin with. I hope her appetite returns soon. I appreciate the comment very much!
