A broken hip would certainly make me feel shaky. It sounds to me like your mother is doing astonishingly well under the circumstances. Is someone there who can help her out and make sure she takes it easy for a while?
We have someone there all the time now because of the dementia. The first week out of rehab I got the night shift for 7 days in a row while working a full time job. Now we have it worked out to where I only have 2 nights a week.

If you are already dealing with your mom’s health so much; its understandable that that would feel so overwhelming. I’m REALLY happy things have turned out better!

Maybe this is a good reminder to us all to look into our options for when the time might come for us. It can’t hurt to be familiar with emergency or mobile vets in our areas. Or think who might be available to help in a hard situation like that.

The schedule is hard between Monday and Wednesday because I stay overnight Monday and Tuesday night. Tuesday is the worst because I am there in the morning which makes me late for work, and I can't stay late to catch up because I have to be back at night. This week Bam Bam needs medicine twice a day and I need to make sure he eats, so in the morning I drive 25 minutes to my house, the opposite way I need to go to work, then drive an hour to work. On the way home, I drive and hour home to take care of Bam Bam, then back 25 minutes to Mom & Dad's house. I always know when Bam Bam has ate & had medicine, but Monday through Wednesday sometimes I don't even know when I ate last. Last week I accidentally did a 48 hour fast except for my Pepsi and a handful of potato chips. It is getting to where I have to stop and think when I ate last.

Well tonight is a nightmare. They are testing for a uti tomorrow, but tonight mom went crazy when I tried to take her to bed. She decided I was trying to kill her, then I called dad over and she decided he was trying to kill her. Then the other imaginary people in the house. I called the nurse and she had no suggestions. So since she is currently sitting calm in the chair I guess we are staying up all night or until she makes sense again. This is the first time this happened, I can't deal with this

I'm trying to be completely silent so we don't wake mom up before the home health lady gets here. You wouldn't believe how noisy dad can be with those cat food sacks. She already woke up once talking about people with guns going to kill us, I don't want her to go back to last night where she thought we were trying to kill her. They are supposed to test for a uti today, but I hope she doesn't scare off all if our help before we get this figured out. I can't deal with being here all of the time.

I am so sorry you are having such a difficult time.I did not have anyone who could step in so I could at least get a few hours break when I was dealing with caregiving. If you have someone who could give you a break take advantage of that.
Maybe start a different thread separate from this end of cat life/ euthanasia thread. More people may have some suggestions

Bam Bam has actually been eating better lately. The rest of the news isn't good. I went with my mom and dad to the doctors appointment yesterday. We thought they might be going to tell us she had an infection or pneumonia since they wouldn't give xray results over the phone. She has a broken rib, but they do not think it is a result of trauma, which means it is possibly cancer metastasized to the bone. They will know more after today's CT scan. He also started asking if we knew where she could have an infection since her white blood cells were high. But then he looked closer at his laptop and said it was actually the lymp.... cells, the cancer cells, so apparently the leukemia is not in remission anymore. My mom will not be able to handle another round of chemo physically or because of what it will do to her dementia.

My husband is a trucker and out of town, me, Bam Bam, and Pebbles are going to just sit down and watch movies for awhile since there is help at mom and dad's tonight. I am tired of running somewhere all of the time.

Sorry about your mom's continuing health problems. My moms bone issue were not from cancer, but her bones were very weak and she broke them regularly and got skin tears constantly. I was in a similar situation as I quite my job to take care of mom and my husband was working crazy long hours.I hope you got a least a little time to breath today. I get being tired of running somewhere all the time, I'm sure you always have something to do for your mom's care. Take care of yourself.

Bam Bam is getting a biopsy done Monday because he is getting worse again. I do not think I like these covenia shots. I dont think they last as long as they are supposed to, or else it really is going to be an oral mass. I am also not very happy with the staff at the veterinarians office. I rescheduled my appointment to a day earlier, and also scheduled what was supposed to be a 2nd appointment on Saturday. They ended up canceling my first appointment, and would not put him back on Friday when I went to the nonexistent Thursday appointment, so he went to the vet later than if i had never changed anything.

They didn't need to finish the biopsy. The cancer is eating away the bone on his face. They are putting him to sleep. He will not come out of surgery. I can not believe everything is this screwed up this summer.

Also what is Pebbles going to do. She lost both of her companions and now is an only house cat.

They gave me a sympathy card at work because I was at work when I found out. It is weird though. Someone stuck $21.00 in the card. Also, I would have preferred we not tell the entire office my business. I stayed hidden in my office all day, but someone decided to announce it to the entire office.

All you can do is be there for Pebbles and give her time. Expect nothing of her, not even her old routines, but keep them in place since that sometimes helps. Spend more time with her, particularly if she goes to ground. Just make a blanket cushion nest for yourself close to where she likes to stay -- in a corner, under the bed whatever -- and be there with her. Remember to cats sitting in the same room is a form of cuddling and comfort. You don't have to touch.

A new worst time of the day. It would normally be time to leave early so I can give Bam Bam his medicine and make sure he eats before I go stay at mom and dad's house tonight. No cats to give medicine to tonight. And I have to keep it together for caregiving at mom and dad's house tonight. I think I have extra caregiver's grief from trying to save Bam Bam the last month.

I am as mad at human doctors as I am the vets now. The doctors go back and forth. My mom's regular doctor said the leukemia was back, the cancer doctor said with her history he expected the blood count to be high with no more details which makes it sound like the leukemia is in remission, the emergency doctors we see say call the cancer doctor, my brother calls 3 times nobody calls back, now last night at the ER they say the leukemia is back, and she is at end stage of life and we need to get hospice. My brother went to the cancer doctors office and found out that dad misunderstood, or didn't hear correctly. She was never out of remission, they quit giving her the chemo because of her rapid health decline. Why couldn't someone at one of the doctors offices tell us this sometime during the last few months instead of driving us crazy.
