I got a four year old Maine Coon. When I got him he seemed very skittish, afraid of noise and sudden moves. He doesn't eat treats and didn't play. Now he plays some at night with the fishing rod or hide an seek. We have become very close and take walks but he will not go near any neighbor. In fact when they call his name he completely ignore them. Is this normal for a Maine Coon. Also he absolutely hates to be groomed. It's a chore to try and groom him. Any suggestions appreciated

I've never owned a maine coon, so I don't know their stereotypical/general personality. Every cat is different though! For grooming though - try different brushes. There are a lot of different types. It's about the feel on their hair and skin which is very sensitive. Some cats will hate some brushes, tolerate others, and love others. How long have you had him?

Cats are notorious for ignoring their names, especially with people they don't know well. He may do better when he gets to know them. LOL, he also may not!

As for grooming, there is a wonderful certified cat groomer who has a YouTube channel. Her name is Whitney Bullock. Her channel is TheCharlestonCatGroomer. She is also on Instagram. LOTS of grooming tips there, as well as a great array of grooming tools for cats with all types of hair available for purchase.
