Curious if anyone has had a cat with Luna's problem. It started a few weeks ago and it wasn't bad. I took her to emergency and went home with eye drops that almost cleared her eye then it came back and it's worse now. The er vet said it was possibly due to a trauma or something with her feline herpes. I took her to her regular vet and they couldn't do much for her. They gave her anti-inflammatory eye drops and referred me to an eye vet who didn't have an appointment until June. Her regular vet said that she can't see out of it and she's squinting so it must be painful for her. The emergency vet place has an eye vet available in March. I'm getting increasingly nervous every day with her appointment coming up. She's a timid cat who gets bullied by the others so she has her own room; she ABSOLUTELY hates change even the smallest thing will set her off and she'll poop outside her litter box. When she had to go to the er, she pooped and threw up before we got there and peed on herself in the vet's care. I will be more prepared and have 2 calming collars for her. If you had an experience with this, please share. I'm so scared that she will lose her eye. Pics attached of her cloudy eye before and now.

Did they give you an antibiotic ointment for her eye? The longer that eye is cloudy the chances rise she will lose it. You might tear a tea towel up soak a piece of it in a boric acid solution (look up on internet for amounts) and wipe her eye gently to get her used to messing with her eye. My Burt had this same thing and only the ointment cleared it up. You could call your vet and see if they will prescribe some after telling them it has not cleared up. If you have tried an antibiotic, then wiping the eye gently still wouldn't hurt with the solution. They also have eye medicines on Amazon for cats. I know how frustrating this can be, Burts eye was bad for months.

Thank you for replying. No her regular vet just gave her anti-inflammatory drops. I have terramycin from when I was fostering which is for "superficial ocular infections" but when she first had it, I put some in and it seemed to really sting her. I will definitely try the tea towel. The regular vet wasn't really that helpful so my only option is to wait until march or go to emergency but theres no guarantee that there will be an eye vet on site. This just sucks. She seems to be in less pain from the drops at least.

Terramycin is what is usually prescribed. To apply ointment it is much less scary for the cat to pull down gently on the lower lid until a pouch is formed and squeeze some in the pouch. Blinking spreads it. If it was me, I would use the antibiotic, especially since it was the only thing that worked for my cat.

I'm sorry to hear your cat's eye is worse now. One of our cats had a scratch on his cornea and we had to see a Veterinary Ophthalmologist who corrected the problem by placing a collagen lens over it. It looks similar to a contact lens. Here is some information regarding the subject: Using Bandage Contact Lenses for Dogs and Cats | MedVet

When a health issue concerns more than just a watery eye it's wise to consult a specialist. If you cannot get an appointment with the eye vet sooner can you ask your regular vet to call for you? This might be helpful. TCS has an Article about eye problems in cats and when to contact a certified veterinary ophthalmologist: Eye Problems In Cats: What Every Owner Needs To Know – TheCatSite Articles

Best of luck, please keep us posted on Luna's progress. :crossfingers:

I will try that. Thank you.

I did call for a different referral because June was way too far away. The assistant asked a vet and the vet was surprised they didn’t have an appointment until June because they have 3 locations. But I can definitely try and have my vet call the eye vet. I’m surprised that her regular vet didn’t say what her condition was. But I will update after her appointment. I’m sure if it’s bad I’ll need some cat people support lol

I'm hopeful that once she sees the Veterinary Ophthalmology Specialist and you get an accurate diagnosis she will feel much better, and you too. :hugs: As for support, that's what we're here for. As you have probably noticed, TCS is a very supportive and helpful feline community. Sending healing vibes and special thoughts to Luna.:vibes::vibes::vibes:

Looks like uveitis, I’m glad you’re getting in to see the vet. Any other symptoms?

If she tends to get very stressed about the vet and it causes her a lot of distress, you could call and ask if they could prescribe a calming med like gabapentin that she can take 1-2 hours before the vet visit. It’s helpful for a lot of cats who get worked up about travel or vet visits.

Thank you. I will call my vet for a calming med, Luna definitely needs it lol. She has feline herpes so her eye was usually always leaking stuff. She has some problems with her paw pads but the er vet said there was no connection. Her paw pads always seem deflated? Her room is carpeted so it's not issue there. The er vet did blood work and nothing popped out that I remember. She said she did an eye pressure test and it seems to have lost pressure? I don't really remember what she said. When Luna was little, she usually had blood in her stool but she got a work up and no parasites. She no longer poops blood. Her poop is really smelly lol I usually say that she dropped a bomb or her poop can be used as a weapon. I don't know if that's related. She seems smaller now, she was 9lbs at the er vet and 8.8 at her regular vet. She's 5yo but I recently changed everyone's wet food but everyone seems more hungry so I'll probably change it back. They have 24/7 dry, lol im not starving them. :runaround:

Thank you for helping me through this tough time! I wanted to give an update. Her eye looks so much better now??? :runaround: I took those this morning, she’s killing me by making me worry so much for her to get better before her appointment. Lol I’m still taking her to the eye vet in March so I’ll update again then.

Thanks for the update and I'm glad you're still keeping the appointment with the eye specialist. I think that will give you peace of mind. Best of luck! :crossfingers:

She has Keratitis which is inflammation of the cornea. There's possibly a link with her feline herpes since 75% get keratitis and has feline herpes. It's lifelong so I'll be bringing her to the eye vet regularly. Luckily, her regular vet gave a written prescription and gave refills because that's the eye drops that Luna has to take and it's $35. The emergency vet gave her eye drops and it was $115. I have an appointment with her eye vet again in 2 months. She can still see and doesn't seem to be in pain. I called her regular vet and was given cat calming med for her appointment which didn't really work, because she still threw up and pooped herself. So I'll have to figure out something else for next time. Thanks again for helping me through these tough times! :wave3:

Hi M Mochiandme , I know it's been a long time, but what did you give Luna to help heal her eye? Did Luna's eye stay healthy? My cat has corneal ulcers that just won't heal for almost 2 weeks now, and I wonder what else can be done other than Ofloxacin drops and Optixcare. neely neely I was reading about the contact lens for cats with corneal ulcers and I wonder if those helped your kitty? Thanks :redheartpump:

Yes it’s been a while. I went to her eye doctor 2 months later and he spent 5 mins with her so I haven’t gone back. It hasn’t come back. But I have her eye drops if it does and will go back to him.

Yes, it not only helped but he never had a reoccurring problem. However, I can't stress enough to see a Veterinary Ophthalmology Specialist for this procedure. Best of luck! :crossfingers:

Hi neely neely my Mumu is already being treated by an opthalmologist (very long and sad story of glaucoma surgery and total loss of vision, and these corneal ulcers that won't heal up), but her follow up is tomorrow and I definitely want to ask about the contact lenses for Mumu. We've been doing the Ofloxacin and lubricant diligently for 2 weeks, and she had a grid keractomy (cotton swab debridement) already with plasma serum, and it's just not healing. I suspect part of it may be her new blindness is causing her keep her eyes open and walk into walls and things as she learns her way, but she can't deal with the cone anymore. She doesn't seem in too much pain from the ulcers, at least (except after her eyedrops and especially the Optixcare). I will definitely ask about the contact lens and I hope she can get them put in! Thanks so much for your response!

W WMM201 I'm not sure but If I remember correctly, wasn't Mumu diagnosed with Hyperthyroidism awhile back? If so, how is she doing?
