Does anyone know the reason why a cat would have low basophils on a blood test?

I am at a loss for it.. Geoffrey has had low basophils for a year. The regular Vet is leaning towards allergies. The specialist does not want to comment on it, until he sees Geoffrey and orders another blood test.

I cannot seem to find much about this on the web; except associated with allergies.
They were low, last year, and very low this year; so I am concerned.

The Regular Vet feels it is either a chicken allergy or an allergy of some sort, or IBD; because of his vomiting, and excessive ear wax, and that he is always grooming.

Thanks in Advance.....

Feeby has had numerous blood tests run in recent years, and ALL of them show ZERO (0) basophils in her results. Antech is the lab that is used for her tests, and the reference range is 0 - 150 /uL. What is Geoffrey's numbers and what is the reference range? Is this some sort of additional testing that is done from the standard? Just curious, as Feeby's results have never been marked as an issue.

So, I am not sure how basophils, just by themselves, play a role in allergies, but based on the symptoms/signs you describe, it does sound like Geoffrey could have some sort of allergy going on.

Any of his other blood result numbers out of range?

Thanks for the blood results! I think the specialist is correct in not commenting until they see Geoffrey and perhaps re-check the blood work in order to see if anything changes. I think your regular vet is thinking along the lines of allergies because sometimes elevated basophils are immune related reactions in the body - that can be triggered by allergic reactions. As it would seem you already know.

The other thing to ask about (unless they already explained it to you) is how any of this ties to creatine kinase, which is the other element that is elevated in his blood work.
