I'm looking for an end table with a cat post similar to this. The size is perfect. I'm looking for a post for Betty to scratch and a flat surface for my breakfast/dinner bowls after I finish and before moving Betty from my lap. It should be about 24 to 26" tall considering the chair it will sit next to. I can spare a few inches here. But 32", the size of the first post I ordered, is too tall. Also, it was too wobbly. I haven't ordered this one yet. But the reviews are mixed on its durability. I'd be willing to spend a bit more for something I know will hold up. But it's also a tight space I'm looking to fill.

Does anyone have any recommendations besides this one? Does anyone have this one and can speak to its durability and stability?

You may have to weight the bottom or attach it to something really heavy. Even a small cat - 8 lbs - can shake the scratching post. Ours ranging from 8-15 lbs have all been able to shake the full size (three seat) sofa and move smaller piece of furniture across the non-carpeted floor when scratching on it.

Maybe something like this? THE REFINED FELINE Purrrrfect End Table Cat Bed Cave in Black Espresso, Multipurpose Wood Cat Furniture Nightstand, Easy to Clean Covered Cat Bed with Replaceable Scratching Post & Washable Cushion Amazon.com
I did see that one. It's too big for the space right now. I would have to get rid of the lamp (and the two shelves in the lamp) that I'm currently using. I'm not opposed to that. But then I have to think about what kind of lighting (and where it will fit) to go in its place.

I'm not opposed to weighting the multi-post style where there is a space in the center that can be used exactly for that. The single post did not offer an opportunity to weigh it down. I probably could have gotten a second thicker base for it to screw into. But I didn't like the height or the size of the post anyway.

My main concern for this is weighting it too. My cats will launch themselves on things. I wouldn't trust those to be stable. Maybe screw it to a wider base?

If your floor is wood you can drill holes and just screw the scratching post to the floor. Later you can repair the small holes with plastic wood, which now comes in every color of wood you can imagine.

Carpet. And I rent. Doesn’t fix the height. I’ve already returned it. It’s sad that my favorite cat tree maker no longer makes cat trees. I have three other Furhaven trees and would probably get a fourth if I can find the right configuration to share with her.

This might fit the bill. I have to read the reviews and maybe mock out the space. I'm not interested in the bed on top. That would be my surface to use. This space I'm looking to fill is where Betty waits for me to finish cooking breakfast and dinner so she can sit in my lap while I eat them. Since this area is so socially important to her, I figured she might enjoy having a couple of posts to scratch while she waits for me to finish up. I previously had a Katris (cardboard tetris) "L" shape in that area. But those are great for providing Betty steps to her favorite cat caves that sit on top of ottomans. Those Katris pieces are no longer being made or I would have bought another. Maybe. The last time they were in stock, they were only selling them in complete sets and that's a lot to spend for a single L piece. Not that we couldn't figure out how to use the other pieces. But yeah, it went from using one of her Katris pieces for my use that she got no use out of to giving that back to her and looking for a replacement piece we can both use.

Or this one. Odds are Betty won't use either. But I know she will eventually use the L piece I gave up for her benefit. And this is inexpensive enough to be a starter table until I figure out something else. And the Betty doppelganger in the reviews doesn't hurt.

I went with this one. The construction on the other one looked too cheap and that platform doesn't look level. I liked the three sisal and ball design. But it also seemed too short. This one seems like it has some legs she can stretch out on. And as I said, she doesn't need to use the platform. That's for me. This is just an extra scratching option for her while she waits for me to finish cooking meals.

It looks like the tree should do the trick, let's hope so. And I'm sure Betty will approve!
I was thinking about this thread earlier, and I wonder if it would be possible to take a sturdy wooden end table with 4 "posts" of wood connecting the top to the bottom (4 for sturdiness) and just wrap those posts with sissal rope. I'm very tempted to try it. 🤔

Since Betty isn't very big, may you can get one or make one that can attach to the end of the sofa. Plywood covered with a rug (ours loved scratching on carpet found in unexpected places)

What did I pay for that one? $30? I can’t get an end table or materials for DIY for less than that. And I don’t have the workspace or the weather to be doing DIY anyway. Betty has no shortage of cat trees. I spoiled Krista and Betty is only slowly coming around to all of it. The L shape as an end table was perfect for me. But I knew Betty could use that piece as a step to one of her caves because she finally came around to using the other L piece as a step for her other cave. Even if Betty never scratches these poles, giving the other L shape back to her will be worth it. Especially because that L shape cannot be purchased anymore. If it could, it would be many multiples over the tree because they aren’t sold separately.

I love Amazon! I only wish I could have been there to slip the driver some holiday cash for working today. Instead he delivered it to the parcel lockers.

It’s purrfect! It assembled in a snap. Six screws. Three posts. Three washers. I was done in fifteen minutes. The fit and height are both purrfect! The surface is plenty big for my use. And while the posts aren’t very tall, I’ve seen Betty scratch the short posts on her other trees. I like it because it’s not going to collect clutter like the L piece did in its hollow. And if it does, it will be eye-twitchingly obvious. Unlike the hollow of the L piece.

Here it is. Assembled in a snap. I left off the bed piece. The top is for my use.

Here is what I am talking about when I talk about this L piece. In its former location, I had it stood on end with long side vertical putting a smaller platform at a higher height for me. This is the first L piece that I have finally seen her using it as intended (a step into and out of her cave.) That ottoman is in the office just behind my desk. It's a top three sleeping spot for her.
IMG_2750.jpeg
And here is the L piece I gave back to her so she can eventually warm up to using it as I intend it. For now, she still stubbornly either jumps directly in or jumps over from the bed. I can see her achy joints and I'm trying my best to make it easier on her. But she loves these ottoman caves (as evidenced right here.)

That brings us to the space I was trying to fill. Just this sliver of a space to the right of the lamp and to the left of the chair. The L piece was a perfect fit. This stump is also a perfect fit.

Welcome to my apartment. I turned it inside out where the bed is in the front room and the bedroom is a home office. I've been working from home since 2020 and loving every minute of it! Having a home office is great for the separation of work from home even when they are in the same location. There's two more cat trees on the wall not pictured (to the right from this angle) and one in the office.

It looks great there! *IDK why I didn't get these threads via email alerts; I've stopped trying to figure out the vagaries of cyberspace.* Anyway, I'm glad you got what looks to be the PURRfect multitasker for Betty and you!

I was going to ask if this type (assuming it's available in the US) would be any use, but I see that you've already solved the issue and it would be too big. Posting out of interest to see it anyway:

Would have been too big for the space. I don’t know if Betty will use this one at all. But if she uses the L piece I gave up for this, it will be entirely worth the measly $30 I spent on it. 😹👍
