litterboxes and outdoor cats

Hello!

I have 11 indoor/outdoor cats and 8 litterboxes in the house. I have noticed that the kitties are more and more using the boxes than the garden. It's okay with me but is this normal? I would think that to warn off strange cats they would rather mark their territorial boundary by doing their toilet outside.

Yes, it's normal...
The cats might feel safer in the house then in the garden. or The sprinklers might be going on, or maybe there are other animals around, or it's too hot. There are a myriad of reasons that a cat would prefer using the inside facilities...
