This is perhaps more about me than about my cats, but I recently did an early spring-cleaning of my house, going into rarely-accessed corners and bookshelves, cleaning and vacuuming everything. There was a fine coat of litter box dust pretty much everywhere.

Now, over the past year, I've been having a problem where I wake up with my eyes stuck shut, and I've had to resort to things like nighttime eye ointment (basically petroleum jelly) smeared all over my eyes. I thought it was just dry eyes since my mother has to take Restasis.

But after the massive cleaning & wiping down of surfaces, I realized my eyes were no longer stuck shut in the morning. It seems like the litter box dust must be the culprit.

I'm now wondering what other health effects this dust could have on me and my cats, and I'm thinking more seriously about switching to wood pellets.

I switched to pine pellets a few years ago because of the dust caused by my previous litter. No dust with these pellets.
