Lashing out at my cat?

Late to this thread, but what you were doing in the bathroom is basically a short time out. Thats something folks pretty commonly try, and it doesn't really work. Sure, with a break, the cat might do something different after the time out. And sometimes thats needed! But the cat doesn't actually learn anything. So for actual training, you need to use the methods folks have discussed and linked above.

I have my own theory why cats cant seem to learn from time outs, but suppose it doesn't really matter. Its just been our experience, that they dont teach cats anything.
