I added an extra light timer to fade on at sunset since her meals aren't coming for another hour after that right now. It's a different lamp than her meal lights. But I still think it's confusing her. She's already occupying the, "daddy's coming home soon so I don't have to eat from those feeders now" spot on the bench. I'm going to change it from a fade on to an instant on. That or I disable it and she forages in the darkness for a couple months until the days get longer again.

I've read that light is very important to cats, so that sounds like a good move.

I moved it to instant on at 4:15 when we’re getting good afternoon sun (or we were anyway) and she would be less likely to notice the light coming on. I’m sure I’ll tune this over the weekend.

First dinner is my favorite. She nearly always finishes first dinner. Plated at 6:30, she was done by 7. I gave her 10 more grams of rabbit. And that’s nearly gone too. I’m thinking the fat content of the turkey is a little high for her gut and butt. Adding some rabbit where I can should help bring that down.

My cameras’ cloud recording is fussy. I don’t understand why only one motion was recorded all day.

What I’m getting at? She had one soft poop sometime between 11am and 6pm. The frequency has reduced from yesterday even if the consistency hasn’t firmed up yet.

She’s done with her first dinner. I set an alarm for second dinner in case the lights don’t wake me. I lay down on the bed to watch some TV and maybe fall asleep between dinners.

Krista appears from wherever she was hiding. Makes a beeline right to my chest. She climbs aboard, spins once to be awkward, then sits down into a full Sphinx nose to nose. So presumptive! Alright. I suppose I can give you scratches. If I can stop laughing at how forward you’re being. 😆🐈

So jarring to fall asleep between the dinners! I woke to the alarm I set (wondering whether the lights alone would have done it.) I thought maybe I fell asleep between the breakfasts and that it was morning and I was so tired that I may need to figure out how to get an extra hour of sleep out of my morning before I...wait a minute! The TV is on. If this was 10am, how did the 9am sound bar alarm not turn off the TV and change over to her cat rock? Oh! That’s 10pm! Let’s change the plates, load up the feeders, brush the only teeth in this household (🙀🙊😆), and it’s time for bed for the both of us. Plenty of time to sleep before the breakfasts and the morning.

Or until I hear her in the box in the middle of the night... I’ll bolt out of bed and straight into the poop jailer role if I hear her scratch more than the pee number of scratches. 😼

3:30am I hear her in the box and up I leap.

It used to be a retching cat that would wake me from a dead sleep. She doesn’t barf as much anymore.

We had some solid poop. A few ribbons of toothpaste. And then I could tell she was planning a carpet bombing. She was sniffing out the spot for it.

“Hey! Not that. Not there. To poop jail with you!”

And sure enough, she still had a wet bit hiding behind the toothpaste.

We’ll keep up the stock, yeast, and rabbit and hope that the trend to solid poop continues.
🐈💩🤞

Final score yesterday was a staggering 6.7 oz! I didn't know if we were going to reach 5 the way she left half of first breakfast behind. But she ate bonus rabbit all night long alongside her usual turkey.

She popped up and followed me to the kitchen readily enough this morning. She ate a spoon of stock. She even followed me back to plate her food. But I think she took a few yeasty bites and decided the office tree is where she wants to spend the morning.

I work from home today so I'm not too worried. I can delay her second breakfast a bit longer if I need to.

If her food journal is to be believed, she'll likely finish in the 5 to 5.5 oz range today. She eats of the feeder portions on Mirtaz days. I don't know that I want to dose her daily if I don't need to. For starters, she'll learn to hide from me in the mornings. And I still don’t know if the Mirtaz is giving her the squirts. But the stock and rabbit gives me hope.

Someone is not going to let me work this morning. She has reduced her plate by more than half. She can squat my laptop. Or I may just cook my own breakfast.

I miss the ends of more murder porn than anyone could possibly imagine. I'm an insomniac but the TV is a soporific for me. Even the movie theatres, as loud as they are. It's (usually) no reflection on the quality of the entertainment. It's just my weird wiring, I guess.
At the rate she's now eating, prepare for a chonkette in the near future? :bliss:

"soporific" I had to look that up but I like it.

I'm the same way. I watch murder porn to sleep or background noise in the daytime precisely because it's almost entirely narrator and interviews. You don't get much in the way of soundtrack, score, or loud sounds. I used to watch Lord Of The Rings every night to fall asleep because it was such an engaging bedtime story. If I woke up, I'd restart it and I was usually out before Frodo even left the Shire. Movie theaters will put me to sleep for a different reason. It's two hours, in the dark, without a cat. If the seat reclines, and I don't often go to theaters that don't have those now, I'm even more likely to take a nap. One of the theaters here was doing a Lord Of The Rings marathon. I only bought tickets for the first movie because I couldn't be away from the cat for that long. But I walked in thinking, "I'm going to get a beer and I'll be asleep by Rivendell. That will still be nearly two hours of cat-free nap time."

I hope we’ve stopped the weight loss. She feels a little more solid in my lap or on my chest. But that could just be wishful thinking. There’s always the possibility that something else is going on. I want to get her into an internal medicine specialist anyway. But if she is still losing weight, I’ll have to make that call sooner than later. Still. I am very encouraged by her eating this week. I only wish her poops were better.

My Tarifa, who is 16, always got the "she's thin!" remarks from visitors. She was actually just right, a sleek, svelte, lithe little tortleshell. Until she became what she is now, a little football-shaped cat.:yess: No changes whatsoever in diet or lifestyle -- just a rounder cat.

Yeah, that Green Dragon special will lay you out, all right. I have the DVDs and it's one of my favorite films (trilogies?) so I watch and watch and watch. *And I don't even have to rewind to the parts I slept through.* I don't do cinemas any more -- too loud and I don't like the way the junk food smells. Cat food is more my aroma of choice.

I think at one time, a vet once said that Krista could stand to lose some weight. I don't ever remember her being rotund (except when walking across me in the middle of the night.) She's always been a smaller cat but aside from the last couple of years, she's never been bony. She got up to 9.5 lbs earlier this summer. She was as low as 6.3 last summer during the worst of her IBD and pancreatitis. I'd feel better if she was above 8 lbs again. Below 7 lbs would really be hard for me to see again.

I hear ya on that. Even though slender is healthiest for almost every species, I like a cat to look well fed. It just makes me uncomfortable seeing an underweight cat.

For the last year or so, I have been feeling cats shoulders whenever I get to greet one that's not my own (like adoption events.) I have convinced myself that it's totally okay to feel her shoulder blades. What I don't like is feeling the individual bones in her arms and shoulders. I want her to have some healthy lean body mass covering those bones. I still play with her at least a couple of times a day in the hopes that when her body does get enough calories and protein, she'll rebuild tissue, not just fat.

Yeah! Same here. I know older individuals of just about any species can lose muscle mass, which makes them appear thinner. I'm really glad Tarifa put some weight on. She never looked "too thin" to me, but looking at her now, I feel more comfortable and confident that I won't get any more of those "she's so thin" comments.

I wanted to make Krista a new batch of stock because the one from the freezer isn't re-gelling back to meat jello. She still likes it. But I would prefer a stronger stock for her.

I love the Instant Pot. I was able to go from turkey wings in the fridge to stock in the fridge in under three hours. Much of that time was in prep and cleanup.

Krista got a little at every step. I cut up some sashimi while preparing the bones for the stock. She got some cooked meat when the stock was done. And she got some fresh stock when the pot had cooled enough.

Fresh stock! She loves her meat jello but she never gets it fresh. Partly because licking used to cause her more pain than it does now. So that's a small victory to come out of her extractions as well. She used to love licking me, my clothes, the blankets, the carpet.... But somewhere in the last year's extractions, licking has caused her grief or pain. But recently, she's been licking me again. It may just be the mirtazapine. But she wasn't licking me earlier this summer when she was on the mirtz. So yay for victories great and small!

YAY! :yess::bliss:I don't have an Instant Pot but I've heard a lot of good about them.
It's nice having a licky cat. My Baby Su sometimes licks me. Tarifa likes to chew on my hair. Elvis? He just does his Elvis thing.

We had fat toothpaste. And then she had two more boxes worth of squirts. That wasn’t her idea. She has tells and they were telling me that she needed to be chased into poop jail until she looked less poopy and unsettled. When she does the crouching tiger in front of the poop jail bars, I’m reasonably certain she’s done. For now. Frequency-wise that was pretty good. 3:30am to 10pm. 18 hours. If anything, she may be getting constipated. She looked a little dicey there for a moment between boxes like sitting on the toilet while sick and thinking the wrong side is facing down.
🤢🐈💩🤦🏼‍♂️😿
It appears we made it through and the carpets live to see another day.

With the bonus rabbit, she’ll probably surpass 7 oz today.

The new stock set up real good.

Turkey meat snot. 🙊😹 It’s very much jello. The end of the last batch was more like turkey snot.
