Please help!!!!
My 9 month (I think) cat is mutilating his tail. We rescued him in August 2020 as a kitten and came with worms, ringworm, double ear infection, double eye infection.
He was treated for all of it, but came back with more worms and ringworm recently.
(he is not an outside kitty) he started mutilating his tail almost immediately.
He has been on kitty prozac, gabapentin and other various pain killers. At first I thought it was all the meds that made him slam his tail, then I thought it was the worms. Now I am not sure. He races around, then sits down and bites his tail. Oh, and his back twitches.
Poor Guy doesn’t know if he is coming or going. His stool gets checked in 3 days. (crossing my fingers he is worm free) he has 3 more weeks of treatment for ringworm. I am looking for any advice at all. His Vet is talking amputation, I am not on board with that.
I am desperate. Can’t leave him alone or we come home to blood all over. (you wouldn’t believe how far a tail can fling blood)

Ask the vet about the possibility of feline hyperthesia. Here's some info:

I'd seek out another veterinary opinion before doing amputation.

Welcome to TCS! :wave3: Thank you for rescuing your kitten. I'm sorry that he is having so many health issues and was on a variety of pain killers. Regarding the problem with his tail, this Article may have some helpful information for you:

You may want to consider getting a second opinion or take him to a Veterinary Internal Medical Specialist. If you live in the U.S. here is a directory: Veterinary Specialist Directory - Find Veterinary Specialist - VetSpecialists.com
