Our 4 month old kittens had spay and neuter surgery today. One boy and one girl (siblings). The vet says we had to stop them from playing and roughhousing for 10 days. We have the female separated in a spare bedroom right now but keeping that going for 10 days is going to be extremely difficult. Any suggestions?

I would contact your vet and ask for tranquilizers. It is very hard to keep kittens quiet. You don’t have to worry about the boy. His surgery was minimal and external. The girl should be kept as quiet as you can for at least several days. Unless of course there was some unknown to us complication.
Did the veterinarian his or her self give you these instructions? Or was it just on discharge paperwork?

Keeping them separated and her in a smaller enclosed space is good. If you think she'll slip out, we've used a baby gate in the doorway to prevent quick dash outs when you go in and out.

My outside cats are released and start playing the next day. I have never had a problem. It's good you had them both done at once, they will both be a little sore. And no nonrecognition they usually get when only one goes to the vet taht causes fights. If she is sore she will hiss and snarl at him. You could keep them separated but let them together with supervision. You could also get a human infant onsie and see if she will wear that, it would protect her abdomen from roughousing. You could also keep them separated for a few days and then closely supervise and see how it goes. You might have some toys such as a 'kickeroo' handy to throw towards the boy if he seems too intent on jumping on her. All the luck!

We plan on having our 4 male kittens neutered the first weekend in September. They will 4-5 months old. We are also going to get them microchipped at that time.

Our daughter, who is a vet, as well as our family vet said we don't need to worry too much about their activity after the surgery. They will all be a little sore so that should keep the normal maniacal chaos down a bit.:)
