Our cat Ellie just got spayed today and I was wondering if anyone had any tips on keeping her calm and is there a bigger fear of jumping up and down or running around?

Right now, she's in a second bedroom 11.5 feet by 8.5 and we took out all of the furniture.

First time dealing with an animal and surgery.

Little nervous

You've done quite a lot that will help keeping her from jumping up and down, good for you!

Hopefully she won't get too goofy running around, -- how old is she?

She is around 5/6 ish months.

I know I can't watch her 24/7.

I'm sure she'll be running around 😔

All you can do is to keep an eye on her as best you can. I've read that some people don't even worry about it, as long as she's not licking the area :)

Haha! I would put her in the bathroom but I fear she would jump off the sink / toilet.

Just Nerve racking for now

There really isn’t any way to keep a young cat from playing and running. But as long as she isn’t jumping it shouldnt hurt her incision.

Vet gave her some gabapentin 2x a day for 7 days. Starting at a lower dose and see how that works.

Hate giving it to her but.. it's for her benefit

It is for her rambunctious as a precaution.

She didn't sit still all night, I found the closet door open and her toys about! She was walking around like nothing happened yesterday!

She's been good today, just gave her the first dose.

I am worried what she will do at night while we are sleeping.

She is a jumper.

Besides keep her in a cone and give her pain meds until she is healed up?

Tell us if you have trouble keeping her cone on & I can show/tell you how to tie it to her.

danteshuman danteshuman the gabapentin is so she stays calm and doesn't run around. I gave it to her before, will see how she is during the day.

Cone is good, it's a fabric cone from the vet.

Oh, bless your heart! We are about to go through this on Thursday, and I didn't even think about the not jumping part! Gah! That's hard with a 5 month old that gets the roomies every 20 minutes or so! How is your baby doing now? It sounds like she doesn't even know anything happened, which seems at least like a great sign! :rbheart:

Furballsmom Furballsmom as for the gaba, will have to see how it goes. She's probably feeling better now too. Seems to have more energy.

Last dose no later than Friday
