Hello,

My kitten Zorro is 6 months old. He has not been growing. Periodically there is blood in his stool. He was eating soil from potted plants which upset his stomach, so they were removed. A month later he started eating his litter. With frequent vet visits, we learned he has a slight heart murmur, is slightly anemic, not growing (although his teeth are). With blood tests, the vet also found the electrolyte levels were off. One thing that came to mind is FIP, or something within the GI tract. Has anyone heard of symtoms like this?

He may need antibiotics to treat an infection in his intestines. That may be the reason for blood in his stool.

Have you discussed this with the vet?

It could also be parasites. There is medicine for this too.

Get a second opinion at another vet.

In the meantime, try Gerber turkey or chicken baby food. Cats usually love it.

Raw goats milk and a little raw honey cant hurt may even help...

Pidgeon or chicken soup made with love and your heart are another reliable recipes jewish moms do traditionally. :)

It sounds like he is trying to sooth his hurting stomach. It could be allergies that are causing ulcers/inflammation. You might try sticking with one kind of food and seeing if he gets worse or better, chicken for a week, then fish, etc. A bland food to start out with may be good, give shredded chicken that has been boiled/roasted or Gerber baby food in turkey/chicken. It is perplexing that blood tests didn't indicate anything. Parasites might be another real possibility, most worm medicines do not kill tapeworm, so make sure whatever you are giving him does. I will pray that your little one regains his health, bless you for trying to help him!
