If by chance she's one of the people who can't stand the smell of canned food, I don't blame her there but there are a lot if wet foods in the market now that have little to no smell.
Holtby70 is doing the best for her cat as she can-she came here to find help. As long as the kitten gets enough to eat, that is the immediate importance. In a perfect world, we'd all feed our pets the perfect diet--and we'd feed ourselves a perfect diet. It is not a perfect world; we all do the best we can.
If your parents insist on dry food only, then maybe you could get your kitten a cat fountain...they encourage cats to learn to drink more water, and are not too expensive. They do require frequent cleaning, though.
