Our 4 month old kitten has been experiencing diarrhea, including diarrhea with undigested food, for the past 1.5 days. The other two cats in our household are in perfect health, so our vet is ruling out parasites or worms but is still doing a fecal sample. Besides the diarrhea, he is acting normal. Playing, drinking water, and has a ravenous appetite.

We started a bland diet today and have yet to see improvements. He’s been on Forti Flora for the past week (had a day of diarrhea when we were at the vet for our adult cat checkup, vet recommended it) so that doesn’t seem to be helping. We also have an anti diarrhea medication from the vet that we started today.

Before the bland diet, he was eating Royal Canin Kitten wet food, the same food his foster mom fed him, and the same food is sister is on. His foster mom said she didn’t experience this with him while he was in her care. He is vaccinated against distemper and his sister tested negative for FIV (he is too young to be tested).

Any idea what we are dealing with here?

Definitely sounds like parasites. I'd use a general all wormer for now, and treat in conjunction with the fecal results. Just know not all parasites show up on feral tests, such as giardia.

Coccidia is another that can not show up on tests, unless they are specific. And both are fairly common in kittens.

Checking back in. Our vet gave us a general dewormer on Monday for our two kittens (older cat has been fine so the vet wasn’t concerned). Now on day 3 of the dewormer we are finally seeing more solid stools. Thank you for your comments/suggestions. We have an additional check up on Saturday for the kittens boosters but it looks like the dewormer did the trick!
